A cosy modern bohemian home

Tjoohoo! It's a hive of activity at home today as we're getting ready for a little summer break - eeeeee! I find it hard to feel super excited until I'm actually on route these days (there's so much to do!). Do you find that?!  I'll be taking a couple of weeks blogging break (shock horror! - that sounds like ages and I'm going to miss you guys, but I've been working like crazy with photo shoots and finishing my third book (exciting!) so I'm in need of a little R&R, plus I think my family have forgotten who I am!). But before I head off, I thought I'd leave with you the most inspiring home - with LOTS of ideas around every corner! This lovely space belongs to Megan Schlachtenhaufen, purveyor of fab, custom made wall hangings (hop on over to Instagram to check them out). Megan shares her home in Wisconsen, with her husband and two daughters and has furnished it with an eclectic mix of furniture, layers of texture, lovely art and punches of colour resulting in a relaxed modern bohemian style. Let's take a peek....

Photography: 13 and 14 by Clettis Wright. The rest by Megan Schlachtenhaufen.

Oh how I love this home. It makes me want to go out and hunt for paintings for my wall, rummage around flea markets for secondhand finds, invest in some kilim cushions and Moroccan blankets and generally max out on cosiness  - how about you?!

Get the look from Megan's home: bertoia side chair, source beautiful kilim cushions here, pick up a blanket with pom poms / tassels here, leather pouf / ottoman, mantis ceiling light, this is a great shop for rugs. Baskets, Atollo gold table lamp. Pick up custom-made wall hangings by Megan here. The large wall hanging in the living room is by The Dharma Door.

You can also see more pictures of this home and an interview with Megan over at The Glitter Guide

If you need a little escape on your morning coffee break, here are some of my all time favourite archives for you to check-out while I'm away (although you might need to set-aside an entire morning or two!):

A round-up of Swedish homes
Inspiring Danish homes
My pick of Norwegian homes
Who doesn't love a Finnish home?!
Relaxed and laidback summer cottages
International Home tours
Beautiful, relaxed bohemian style homes.

Or if you'd like to go offline - there's always my book The Scandinavian Home: Interiors inspired by light too! Best enjoyed with a coffee....or espresso martini (depending on the time of day!). I hope you enjoy it!

Have a lovely couple of weeks!

PS Catch you on Instagram in the meantime...

My sitting room update

Sponsored post:
Decorating my home is like painting the Forth bridge - no sooner have I finished one room and I'm dreaming about renovating another! Do you feel like that too? The one area in our home which has been most neglected seems to be the sitting room - I've never really had enough shelf space. And the answer came in a mail from Tylko. For those of you not familiar with Tylko - you're in a for a wonderful surprise. Tylko makes functional furniture that's customisable to the space you have down to the last centimetre. I also absolutely love that once your design is ready you can use the app to see how it'll look in your home (and then tweak some more if required!) and that they're made from slow-growth wood from Finland's birch forests making them incredibly long-lasting.  Oh and they're delivered right to your door and slot together without screws. Seriously, what's not to love? Here's a peek at mine...

Photography / Styling: Niki Brantmark - My Scandinavian Home.

Finally a home for all our bits and bobs (and this is just the start - I'm pretty sure in two weeks time it will be crammed with things, and I'll be back on the Tylko website creating myself another unit!).  FYI I went for the 'Sideboards' in white - but it's also available in a very smart black!

What do you reckon, something for your home?!

The wonderful, relaxed boho home of Carley Summers

Do you follow interior stylist / photographer Carley Summers on Instagram? If not, you must! Carley posts snaps from her latest photoshoots and of her home which she shares with her husband Jonathan in North Carolina. The beautiful space is full of items they've collected over the years including pieces from all over the world and vintage finds. Layers of lush textures and warm tones add a wonderful, cosy feel and her relaxed, boho style shines through everything she turns her hand to. Let's take a peek inside their home....

Photography: Carley Summers: @carlaypage / Carleypageinteriors.com

I love this space!  The layered rugs, the blankets, the throws, the patterns and colours. Everything!

Get the look: source a similar Moroccan blanket here and a selection of Moroccan rugs, cushions and poufs here (you can also check out Anthropologie for lovely blankets and throws. Source a vintage rattan chair here (I loooove this mid-century one - only one available, hurry!).

Loking at Carley's home really makes me feel a trip to Morocco is in order  (how long have I been saying that?).  If I go I'd like to stay in this riad in Marrakech- recommended by Carley! Doesn't it look beautiful?!

Have you ever been?

Love this style? You'll also love this relaxed family home in Florida, a beautiful boho cottage to rent in Byron Bay, a unique farmhouse in Holland.

Have a lovely day!

Wallpaper that will put a smile on your face!

There's been a fun trend creeping into the world of interiors for a while now: patterned wallpaper. And Wallshoppe is looking to ensure everyone has a chance to get their hands on bright and fun designs which will put a smile on your face! Made in the USA and printed from 30% recyclable material with non-toxic ink, you can choose from whimsical and charming to edgy and sweet designs - or even mix and match your favourites. Since they come in a choice of paper rolls or removable panels - you can also decide whether to cover your walls for one night or over a lifetime.  Here's a peek at some of my favourites....

Quick guide in order of appearance: Malibu wallpaper (blue on white), George the Octopus wallpaper, Pacifico Palm removable wallpaper (ivory), Malibu removable wallpaper (cadet blue), Goldfish wallpaper (indigo).

These all come in an array of colours, and there are a ton more designs too! Definitely worth hopping over and taking a look for yourself here.

Aren't they fun? All of the above (except George the Octopus) were designed by interior designer Nathan Turner exclusively for Wallshoppe - and inspired by California living - a little nautical and a little tropical! Love that!

I also love that many of the Wallshoppe papers are really easy to clean - making them perfect for children's rooms or family homes. You might even want to opt for the removable panels so you can take them down and exchange as they get older (it doesn't leave a mark!) - or if (like me) you love to shake things up a lot!

Are there any designs that you love in particular?

A serene Swedish home in shades of grey

Hej hej! Just home after a lovely midsummer - which included creating floral headcrowns, eating deliciously sweet strawberries, singing my way through schnapps visa (songs), a lovely stay at Okéns Bed & breakfast (the garden!), and even coffee at Strömma farmlodge! Oh, I do love midsummer! Today I'm back at my desk and have spent the best part of the morning drinking coffee, er I mean, scrolling through the net to find a beautiful home to share! Eventually this one caught my eye - simply because it's so unbelievably serene!  Swedish stylist Pella Hedeby has transformed a new build by JM in Solna, into a lovely, calm home in soft shades of grey while natural textures such as linen, cork and sheepskin add just the right amount of warmth. Enjoy!

Styling: Pella Hedeby. Photography: Kristofer Johnsson. For JM

My day feels calmer just looking at this space - imagine waking up here everyday?!

Get the look: sitting room - Söderhamn sofa with Bemz cover, Fly table, art by Nina Holst (Stylizimo blog). Dining - sheepskin throw. Children's room: Flisat stools by IKEA.  Desk - AJ table lamp. Bedroom - Source dark grey stonewashed bed linen here.

Wall colours in order: light beige, grey, and pink-brown.

You can also check out Pella's post for more info on where items are from here.

I've always been such a big fan of Pella's work, and featured her previous home here and latest home here - as well as her outhouse here. She definitely has a signature style! One talented lady indeed, don't you think?

Have a lovely day!

A magnificent Malmö pad which could be yours!

I do love to keep an eye an eye on the Swedish property market (as I'm sure you've noticed!). Occasionally a home will reappear and it's fascinating to see the difference in the way it's been decorated. This fabulous space is one of them. As soon as I spotted the turn-of-the-century apartment on Malmö estate agent site Bo-laget, I instantly recognised it. The magnificent ceilings, tremendous ceiling height, original parquet floor and kakelugn (Swedish masonry oven) were a total give-away! The previous owners went for a relaxed vibe with mid-century and vintage finds (see the tour here). The new owners have kept the space equally minimalist, ensuring the architecture and period features take centre-stage, yet the furniture has a more contemporary feel. And now it's time for someone else to move in!

This apartment is for sale through Bo-laget

Could it be you?! If so, welcome to Malmö!

Oh how I would love to take on this place too. The things I would do!

A few pieces I know and love: Togo sofa, Bertoia diamond armchair, source a similar Beni Ourain rug, Hay tray table, Bertoia side chair.

I'm so proud of the level of creativity in my adopted home town and have featured many, many fabulous homes from this city here in Southern Sweden over the years. Here are 5 of my favourites:

The relaxed family home of an interior designer
A stunning Malmö home
The atmospheric house with an ethnic touch
An elegant Malmö home in calming green
My neighbour's beautiful home!

Is there a style you like in particular?

Have a lovely day!

PS Make sure you stop by and visit us here in Malmö for a long weekend at some point - it's a perfect day trip from Copenhagen too. Just in case you do, here's a quick guide. Part II coming soon!

The inspiring dining area of an interior designer

Last month I paid a visit to my friend Genevieve Jorn's apartment in the heart of Malmö and had a great day photographing her sitting room (you may remember the post here). The area combines with a dining space where Gen, husband Kasper and daughter Olivia gather for family meals and sit and create thanks to the wonderful light. Although I have to admit, on the day I completely took over the space with my coffee, camera equipment and general clobber!). I did manage to clear it up just in time to snap these pictures though. As part of the wonderful monthly collaboration with one of my favourite Danish homeware brands - Nordal (I do love my job) Gen acquired the rather fabulous Pharmacy sideboard chest, which has proven to be a perfect place for all her family's bits and pieces. Oh, how we need one of these in our household, how about you?!

Such a lovely space! I love the warmth from the wood and the luscious plants too!

Get the look from Gen's dining area:

Have a lovely day!

PS Nordal ships throughout Europe.
