The home of a Swedish Fashion designer

I started to work from home this year. It certainly has its merits - pretty much everything in the house is whirring around me - the washing machine, dishwasher...and I'm sitting here, no make-up, big socks etc. But the true freedom comes with managing my own time (I'm planning on diving into town in a moment to run a few errands) and control of how my workspace looks. And it's the latter which inspired today's post. I love the light-filled home office in the Stockholm pad of Åsa Stenerhag,  fashion designer at Swedish brand Filippa K. The space, which has been beautifully captured by Jonas Ingerstedt, is home to her art,  images which inspire her, artifacts collected on travels and vintage finds. The rest of Åsa's home with it's warm, earthy tones and ethnic textiles is pretty lovely too, don't you think? Oh yes, I could work and live here.

I think what I love most about this home is how it reflects Åsa Stenerhag's personal style. Is there anything that stands out to you?

Other fab office spaces here.

And more beautiful Stockholm apartments herehere and here.

One of the greatest things about Sweden's capital city is how it's surrounded by water. A short boat ride can take you to one of thousands of islands with lovely homes such as this one.  Have you been? We're heading up in a few weeks time to visit my brother-in-law - tips welcome!

Have a lovely day!

PS - thank you to La Maison D'Anna G for today's post tip.

What colour kitchen cabinets would you choose?

The kitchen is such an important room. One of my Mum's friends always refers to it as 'the engine room of the house', which I think is spot on, don't you? Last night I got a message from a great friend in London asking for advice on what colour kitchen cabinets she should choose. We've all been in interior dilemmas before and when I saw the picture of her kitchen (scroll down to the last image), I knew I had to help, plus it gave me an excuse to drool over beautiful kitchens on Pinterest. I also found these beautiful kitchens shot by one of my favourite Swedish photographers, Jonas Ingerstedt...could white or a shade of blue be the answer?!

Blue from the kitchen of Saša Antić:

Or a shade darker?

Tania's kitchen now (taken by Tania):

I absolutely love the dark blue one, but perhaps not for my friends space.

Any thoughts?

What colour is your kitchen?

If you'd like to see more inspiration, take a peek at photographer Jonas Ingerstedt's own kitchen, this stunning Danish kitchen in pastels and this white and grey Malmö kitchen. Infact, type 'kitchen' into the my scandinavian home search and you'll find hundreds of beautiful kitchens (I couldn't believe it!).

PS I was quite nervous about this post since I only ever post images of spaces on My Scandinavian Home I absolutely love. So putting the last image on here was enough to break me out into a slight sweat (eh hem. I mean a gentle 'glow'!) but it's important to get out of the comfort zone from time to time....especially to help a friend in need, isn't it?!

Have a lovely Tuesday!

A cool Swedish home with inspiring touches

The sun is shining, the weather is sweet. Here in the Gothenburg archipelagos we're keeping cool with dips in the sea. But when the heat really takes it's toll (I see in New York it's going to be up to a scorching 47?!) - it's perhaps time to retire into the cool indoors. Personally, I'd choose to take homage in this Swedish space - simply because you're never far from nature (oh OK then, and because it's beautiful!). It's full of inspiring ideas too. I'm taking note of the sofa in the bedroom (there's something a little lyx (as they say in Swedish) about having one of these in a boudoir don't you think?), the wall of shoes (yes!) and a bold geometric rug in the entrance. Let's take a tour....

Is there anything that catches your eye?

I absolutely love the J39 chairs by Børge Mogensens- Danish friend Karen-Maj Kornum tells me they're simply referred to as the 'Folkstol' (or the 'people's chair') in Denmark.

Other items I know and love: dining area - bamboo pendant lampshade (how pretty is this one too?), Eames chairs. office - jute rug (love this). bedroom - stonewashed bed linen, Vee Speers prints found here and here.

Jonas Ingerstedt is one of my favourite swedish interior photographers. I've featured so many of the homes he's captured on here before (with kind permission) - including the home of a Swedish fashion designer and a home that sings (if you love colour you'll love this home!). And of course Jonas' own home is nothing short of fabulous too!

And a little weekend link love I thought you may enjoy.....

Why stop at sofa's in the bedroom? This home has a credenza in the bathroom.

A modern apartment in Frederiksberg, Copenhagen.

Making an entrance, Victoria's round-up.

Decorating secrets from an IKEA stylist.

The Broste spring summer inspiration images look loooovely and fresh.

Chocolate for breakfast - that's a yes from me!

I can't tell you how many compliments I've had on my new glass bottle.

Speaking of which - the winner of the Nordal pure linen tablecloth and napkins (seen in action here) has now been announced on instagram here! Drum roll.....

On that note, I'm off to leave you to have a fabulous weekend! I hope the sun is shining where you are too.

The creative home of a Swedish artist

I'm not sure if you remember the lovely home of Stockholm based artist Åsa Stenerhag that I featured back in January 2015? Well, I was excited to discover more pictures (by photographer Jonas Ingerstedt) last night! Åsa's apartment has been decorated with earthy tones of beige, brown and deep red (kind of Autumnal don't you think?) combined with black and white and furnished with iconic pieces, fascinating treasures and of course, the most wonderful art. Åsa's art is infused with tactile surfaces and graphic expressions, and many pieces can be seen throughout the home. She also recently made news for her exhibition “Seeking Patterns”, a collaboration with Swedish fashion brand Filippa K (she was formerly part of the design team). It's no wonder her home is so creative!

What a beautiful home?! So unique and personal.

The art steals the show of course, but I also spy one of my favourite lamps - the Mantis floorlamp.  Oh how I'd love one of these in my home one day!

To get a hint of Åsa's style in your home you can purchase her limited edition 'Roots' artwork here, and I'm loving this throw for the colours and texture...also seen here. Beautiful!

Is there anything that stands out to you?

A lil' mid week link love, just because....

Pretty rings for the minimalist.

One day I'd like to live here.

Soft centred chocolate cake. YUM.

One for tired parents - a 'smart' crib that rocks a baby to sleep (where was that when I needed it?!). And for when they're a little bigger - how cute is this little girl's outfit? And, and, and just how beautiful are these threads for kids?

New Instagram find -  Jannik Obenhoff (can't believe he's only 16 can you? - incredible!).

Beautiful Autumn.

Have a lovely day!

PS I'll be stopping by later to share a few of my recent backyard updates (Including a DIY plant box made from an old palette!). Hope you like it!

A Swedish home that sings

It's Friday. Oh yes. For some reason I always spend more time looking for the perfect home tour on a Friday. After a lot of rummaging around, today I decided to return to the wonderful portfolio of Jonas Ingerstedt (he really does find the best homes and takes the most beautiful images). The beauty of this Swedish home is how it shows the true force of adding colour to a space - whether it's the egg shell blue, bright green or the pop of hot pink, there's something about this home that sings, don't you think?!

Photography: Jonas Ingerstedt

Ooooo, I do like this home, how about you?

I have two pieces of exciting news to share with you today. First, Domino included My Scandinavian Home in their list of 26 best design blogs - what an honour? - thank you guys!

And secondly, I have an amazing give-away here tomorrow which I am so excited about. Eeeee! Don't forget to stop by over the weekend to enter!!

And actually there's something else - I have a new sponsor! I'm proud to present Inspired Design, creator of 'The Rolling Ones' - storage boxes on wheels. I have my eye on 'Mick' for my children's toys, cool yet practical.

For more great home inspiration this weekend you might want to check out a whole host of delightful Scandinavian summer cottages here and my Danish home gallery (I can spend hours in both of these places!).

I hope you've got some wonderful things planned over the next two days! Have a great Friday and see you tomorrow!

A Swedish Home In Soothing Shades of Blue and Green

Why hello there! We have a mid-week situation going on today and with that, I figured we could take a little break from Christmas decorations and focus on some vackert (beautiful) Swedish design. Up for that? If so, come and take a peek at this stunning Stockholm apartment. The living space is a lesson in earthy, blue, green and emerald jewel-like tones. Study the pictures carefully and you'll also spot ideas for a relaxed kitchen island, vertical bookshelves, how to arrange a small living room area, a 3D gallery wall, vignette styling and much, much more! Swedish photographer Jonas Ingerstedt was there to capture it...

Since the apartment has a dining room (which is fairly common in these turn-of-the-century Swedish homes), a raised breakfast bar in the kitchen serves as a spot to catch a quick bite to eat or simply sit and chat to the chef! The marble top transforms the simple bar (a great hack if you have an IKEA island) - and the mix and match stools help to give the kitchen a lovely, relaxed vibe.

Many of us have rooms with multiple doors (in our landing we have no less than 5 doors plus a stairwell - gah!) - which can make furniture arranging really tricky. In the sitting room of this flat the two doors opposite each other creates a corridor that needs to be kept obstacles free. The owners have used rounded furniture, arranged in a compact, yet cosy way to carve out a lovely social area.

A vertical bookshelf makes use of a corner (see - 11 ways to make use of an awkward corner).

Notice how the owner has used the same tone of marble in the sitting room and kitchen, creating a 'rödtråd' (red thread) and connecting the rooms (see - 8 ways to create cohesion in your home, Danish style for more ideas).

I love the vignette on the side table - made up of unique pieces such as art, an a-symmetric table lamp, ceramics, books and vases.

The dining room doubles up as a formal dining setting and study. Stacks of coffee table books lay ready to be browsed, while a 3D gallery wall adds interest to the space.

The bedroom has been painted in a soothing green - a colour symbolising nature and as sense of tranquillity.  Researchers have also found green can improve reading ability - something to think about if you're a bit of bookworm (or trying to get your children to read more!).

Love the Series 7 chair by Arne Jacobsen as a home office piece! It's a favourite of mine, except I love the leather version.

Such a lovely, calm apartment.

I particularly love the green and blue tones and the art photography. Is there anything that stood out to you?

Are you ready for a little more festive inspiration tomorrow? Pop back to take a peek at the latest Christmas decorations from Georg Jensen (I particularly love the candleholders in Helen's little tree!). In the meantime, there's plenty of Scandinavian Jul inspiration in this archive.

Happy lillördag (little Saturday).

Niki
