The Dream Swedish Country House of 'Our Food Stories' is For Sale!

If ever there was an opportunity to snap up a beautiful country home in Österlen, South Sweden this would be it. In fact, when Laura and Nora (of Our Food Stories / Design Tales) reached out to me this morning to tell me the news they were selling I nearly cried on their behalf. But all good things must come to an end, and it's time for this incredibly talented couple to focus on projects in their home country of Germany. Which means that this beautiful house from the 1800s in the tiny village of Södra Mellby is waiting for a new owner!

Since buying it in 2019, Laura and Nora have carried out extensive renovations all the while being careful to maintain the original charm. You might recognise the incredible oak DeVOL kitchen (I once featured it here) - but this is the first time I've shown the rest of the house. And true to their signature style, I was thrilled to see the entire space has been furnished with a wonderful blend of vintage and antique pieces as well as Scandinavian design items, against a calming earthy backdrop. Ready to take a tour?

Österlen is such a lovely part of Sweden. Home to many artists and musicians, the area is known for its relaxed vibe, rolling hills, stunning coastline, small boutiques and farm shops as well as countless ateliers and flea markets. It's also popular as a summer holiday destination, with many Stockholmers settling in for the month of July. 

The best thing about this house, is that whoever moves in wouldn't need to change a thing. It would be to just relax and enjoy the Österlen sunshine and maybe ride a bike down to the sea for a dip. Such a heavenly escape!

Old Meets New in a Beautiful Swedish House From 1910

I've got a sunny Swedish home tour to share with you today that matches the bright sunshine we're currently enjoying in Sweden. I hope you are also able to feel the warmth oozing from the pictures! This historical house near Uppsala went on the market this week and I've never been so tempted to relocate! Dating back to 1910, the traditional early 20th century architecture serves as a backdrop for contemporary design touches and an eclectic blend of furniture. The result is a wonderful, warm and inviting home in which you'd want to pull up a sheepskin-covered chair and stay for a while! Ready to feel inspired? 

I feel more relaxed just looking at these rooms, how about you? What a perfect place to unwind! 

The sunroom really caught my eye - I can just imagine sitting there on a cold, sunny day with a cup of tea. Heaven! And just how lush is the surrounding parkland?

An Idyllic Swedish Country Home

Picture the scene: you wake up, throw on some clogs, and head out into the garden with a steaming coffee and newspaper and settle down to soak up the morning sun. Maybe do a little gardening - or take a swim in the nearby lake. In the winter, you might go for a brisk walk before lighting the fire and cosying up with a book for the afternoon or pour yourself a deep, warm bath. Either way, I'm pretty sure this Swedish country home has something wonderful to offer in every season. And the 19th century architecture will no doubt keep you busy too (perfect for a tinkerer!). If only I'd snapped it up when it came on the market a few years ago. Gaaah! Let's sit back and dream of a life in the Swedish countryside all the same. Enjoy the tour! 

Such a beautiful house! It has me dreaming of a move to the Swedish countryside, how about you? 

Funnily enough, Per and I were discussing it only yesterday when we strolled past a really pretty cottage with a thatched roof yesterday evening. It won't happen, but we do love to dream. The other things we marvelled at on our walk in  the forest was how the evenings are so much lighter - and that the birds are starting to return from their migration south. A wonderful sight and a sign that spring is in the air! 

Do the birds disappear in wintertime where you live too? 

And on a separate, slightly random note - thank you to my American readers in yesterday's 'colour inspiration' post for confirming that 'funk / funky' does actually mean the same as it does in British - phew! I was getting nervous!

A Lakeside Swedish Log House In The Snow

Living in the south of Sweden, the winters tend to be long, cold and dark and life tends to gravitate indoors. Many a night are spent at home surrounded by candlelight while munching on comfort food! In the North of Sweden however - the days are lit by dazzling white snow and children play outdoors, building snowmen, sledging or building domes. At weekends, many locals like to head off into the wilderness by ski, ice-skates, snowmobile or show-shoes - all of which will leave you happy, rosy-cheeked and ready for a steaming hot chocolate with rum and whipped cream once home! 

Located around 500 km North of Stockholm, Ann Rullander has created a winter paradise in the form of a beautiful log cabin on the edge of a vast frozen lake. The house dates back to the 1800's and was completely renovated in 2006. It was previously used as a summer cottage before Ann and her husband moved there permanently five-years ago. Today, the simple white wood clad interior mirrors the blanket of snow outside, while a roaring fire, candles and blankets help to create a toasty feel. Ready to be transported to a Swedish winter wonderland? 

How beautiful. 

The porch shovelling looks like heavy work (did you notice how much snow there is?) - but an essential exercise if you want to be able to leave your house in wintertime up there! 

Do you get snow like this where you live? 

Ann tells me that in summer they love to swim in the lake and get about by boat. But for a while yet they'll be using skis and a scooter.
