The Timeless Danish Home of A Jewellery Designer & Vintage Furniture Collector

Oh yay - I do believe it's Friday! Finally! Do you have fun plans?! We're heading up to the west coast to work on a new renovation which I'm so excited about - but of course, not really relaxing (all will be revealed next Sunday!). Before we all shoot off for the weekend, I wanted to share one final home tour. And it's a beauty! Welcome to the Copenhagen home of Anders Forup, a jewellery designer and vintage furniture dealer, his partner Nina and their adorable babba (*kiss those cheeks*!). Needless to say, the home is teeming with incredible Scandinavian design classics including the Arne Jacobsen Ant chair, Hans J Wegner Peacock Chair and the Skultuna Lily candlestick holder* to name but a few. The furniture, art, and lighting shine against a backdrop of white and soft, mid-blue (when I said this shade was set to big, I wasn't kidding!). Nora and Laura of Our Food Stories paid a visit and snapped these lovely pictures.

Oj oj oj (as they say in Sweden) this space is beautiful! I am so in love with the blue shade in the bedroom - possibly my favourite room in the house (but it was a narrow squeak - the whole house is pretty fabulous!).

It's also one of those spaces which feels timeless - it could look like this in 10-20 years and still feel current. I guess, that's the beauty of classic furniture (especially Scandinavian pieces which were designed to withstand the test of time), don't you think?

Did anything stand out to you?

In case you'd love a little more Danish inspiration for the weekend (or planning on. visiting Copenhagen anytime soon), Anders shared these tips:

Anders Forup's Top Five
Favourite music: Madeleine Peyroux
Three things to do in Copenhagen: Design Museum Denmark, Louisiana and Little Bakery on Holmen
Favourite instagram accounts: @bendtsens and @auktionstipset

Read the full interview over at Our Food Stories here

I'll love you and leave you (BTW my Swedish husband thinks this is a really weird phrase to write on the blog - but in the UK it's a perfectly normal saying - does it sound strange to you?) with these fabulous danish homes:

Trevlig helg! See you Monday friends!

Niki

PS If you'd like to make your dreams even sweeter, I'm holding a give-away on instagram this weekend to win two luxury down pillows from Swedish brand Carpe Diem Beds - one for you and one for your partner / friend, and it's open to all! Hop on over to enter (closes on Monday).

Before & After: A Beautiful Handmade Kitchen On A Shoestring Budget

The creativity of some couples is just mesmerising. I've featured a few spaces by Jeska and Dean Hearne, who live on the South coast of England, before (remember their bedroom, bathroom and garden retreat?). And now Jeska, creator of blog Lobster & Swan and founder of shop The Future Kept, and Dean, a photographer have turned their hands to the kitchen. Literally. Everything you see (except the appliances, hardware, and base units) have been made by hand using reclaimed wooden floorboards, recycled crates, old pipes from under the floors for hanging rails and oak laths from a local restoration centre - and the result is truly inspiring!

To get an idea of the transformation - here are a couple of pictures from before they started the renovation.

Before

The pair ripped it out and did a complete overhaul from the ground up. And today it looks like this:

After

The bulk of the back wall has been painted in Annie Sloan Paris grey, with smaller tins of Old White and Graphite accents thrown in (read more about how to get the look here). The wall by the window has been painted in calming Dimpse by Farrow & Ball.

The worktop is made from elm wood and the fan has been covered with a custom built box and clad with oak laths. The sides are made from ply off cuts which have been stained to match.

The pair found the beautiful farmhouse table at a local nursery and the chairs have been picked up over the years (source similar vintage bistro chairs here* - and actually, if you're super quick and live in the UK - there's a set of four original vintage Thonet chairs* exactly like these available on Etsy right now!).

I love the Fowey pendant light over the table, it fits perfectly in this space, don't you think?

The shelves are made from a fallen eucalyptus tree that fell in their garden. They took the wood rot a local sawmill who cut it into planks. It was then stored for three years to dry. The rail underneath is made from a disused pipe.

Source made to measure linen curtains here* (I can highly recommend these guys - all the curtains in my home I made by them!).

What an incredible transformation - so imaginative and unique, and I love how so many elements have been made from reclaimed items.

Could you imagine taking on a similar project?

You can reads more about the kitchen renovation here

I do love a great 'before and after' don't you? If you'd like to see a few more today, take a peek at:

Is there one that caught your eye?

Ha så bra!

Where Raw and Refined Meet In The Middle - Danish Style

In the interior world you hear a lot about people choosing to renovate rather than relocate. Not this sassy lady. I've featured both of Julie Wittrup Pladsbjerg's past homes (here and here) - and last summer she upped sticks again and moved to a new gaff fifty metres down the road. Located in the Danish city of Aalborg, the move was down to her passion for her business Another Studio - a creative content and product development business which she co-founded with Mikkel Dahlstrøm. The apartment features towering ceilings, period features and original parquet flooring. Combine this with her fab, eclectic style, love of vintage classics, plants, books and art and it's hard not to do a twirl in delight (like one happy, little girl in these pictures AKA Julie's daughter Vanilla!).

Art by Rikke Jacobsen and Line Højmann (among others!)

How fabulous!

There's something special about following Julie's style updates over the years, her new apartment feels distinctly grown up, albeit with a touch of that edginess that we so love!

Do you find this home inspiring too?

If you'd like to see more pictures of Julie's apartment hop on over to instagram.

Have a dejlige day!

Get The Look: A Cosy Blue and White Swedish Pad

Tjena raringar!  I've got a cosy little number to share with you today in the form of a charming 53 square metre / 570 square foot apartment in Linnéstaden, Gothenburg. It's one of those pads that you could totally imagine rocking about in and enjoying a fika on the balcony in the spring sunshine (someone told me that the Swedish word fika means something completely different in their own language. I mean, completely different! Just in case you have other ideas, I'm talking coffee and cake!!).  There are a couple of things that really stand out to me about this lovely home. The first is the small bedroom with the pretty row of hooks (FYI - I discovered some in HM Home the other day and they're selling out like hot cakes!) and lace curtains, and the second is the 'evening green' colour in the sitting room - so calming! Let's go for a snoop...

1. Frama E27 light*
2. Wooden peg rail
3. Evening Green paint by Jotun
4. Menu chair*
5. Tine K Home Lounge Chair
6. Vintage rug* (only 1 available! if sold, try here* for similar)

Believe it or not the coffee table is also from H&M Home (I wrote to Elli who designed this space and nearly fell off my chair when she told me). Sadly, I couldn't find it on the H&M homepage, but if you're interested you could always ask in store. I also found similar striped linen bedding here*.

All in all, a lovely space, don't you think?

This middle blue colour is set to be huge this year in terms of interiors and fashion. For more inspiration, I'm loving all the shades of blue in this stunning Norwegian home which I featured a few weeks back, the slightly more vibrant middle blue in the wonderful home of a Swedish food blogger and Sofie Amalie's Danish home with pops of bright colours again a blue background.

Have a wonderful day friends, I hope the sun is shining where you are too!

Everyday Glam In The Fabulous Home of Kyla Herbes

Shall we kick off the week with a little glam,  glam with a hipster touch? I'm talking about the wonderful Chicago home of Kyla Herbes. Kyla has a soft spot for pink (girl after my own heart) - and loves to team it with gold for a touch of everyday glam. I've been following Kyla's blog House of Hipsters for a while, and it always makes me laugh (Kyla's a writing queen - she even scooped up the Amara blog prize for 'best written blog').  But the main reason I nip in is to swoon over her decor which she describes as "just being different". The living space combines vintage, art deco, contemporary and the odd mid-century piece, and it totally works! Ready to put a smile on your face this Monday? Here goes...

First picture: Pelle chandelier* from West Elm (also seen in this fabulous studio apartment), rug from Annie Selke

Above picture: this bar cart* is similar

Print from 45 Three Modern

Love the fabulous Crane Fonda coral wallpaper inside Kyla's hallway guest closet - such a perfect idea! Suddenly made me think of the fact that my children can never close the cupboard door in our hallway and it drives me insane. But perhaps if I lined it with some funky wallpaper.... hmmm. Could you imagine doing this too?!

One of the things I love about Kyla's homes is that there is just so much to look at. You can look through these pictures countless times and still spot something unique.

Shelving from South Loop Loft, armchair picked up at The Savoy Flea, this leather pouf* is similar.

Perfect way to jazz up a tiny guest bathroom: the Party Animal wallpaper by House of Hackney!

Aaaaah, I love this. It makes me want to go a little more out there (starting with our downstairs loo!). How about you?

I also love that Pelle chandelier*, I'm thinking it could go over my kitchen breakfast bar (although I'm afraid this only seems too be available in the US - is that right?).

Did you get any ideas for your home?

See more of Kyla's home here and here.

Have a fabulous start to the week - I hope the sun is shining where you are too!
