The Wood and White Malmö Home of a Creative

Have you ever been to an open property viewing just for fun?! A recent survey by Swedish real estate Fastighetsbyrån found that one in three swedes go to open property viewing without any intention to buy. While they are there 37% will take a peek inside wardrobes, 12% will glance inside bathroom cabinets, and a very cheeky 10% 'test sit' the loo!! I guess you could pass this off as a very 'thorough' inspection... but still...! Imagine? I think I might have to stay in my house forever now! Having said that, with homes like Leanne Ford's cabin and this charming apartment in Gamla Väster here in Malmö for sale, who can blame anyone for nipping in?! There's so much to feel inspired by! I'm loving the mix and match furniture, wonderful storage solutions (shelves around doorways, plan chests etc) and rattan coat hanger! Maybe it is worth taking a look after all - they say the best things in life happen when you least expect it, and you might just discover your future home!

I love the bedroom in this apartment especially, it has a wonderful creative feel about it.

Is there anything that stands out to you?

Here are two other Malmö homes I absolutely love:
The stunning home of Malin Persson
A Striking and Dramatic Family Home

I can't stop thinking about that survey!! How do home property viewings work in your town? Could you imagine popping along to one for fun? or is this completely taboo?!

I wouldn't have found out about these stats had I not been researching for my latest collaboration with the Swedish Design Museum. The good news is, my collaboration gives everyone a bone fide reason to peek into one of several homes as part of my Home Viewing Exhibition! No excuses needed!

Have a fabulous start to the week, it's great to be back!

An elegant Malmö home with Shades of Green, Ochre and Red

I'm all settled in my studio today and it's one of those bitterly cold February days - so I'm not planning on going anywhere! It makes sense therefore, to feature a home right here in the heart of Malmö!

I have driven past this apartment a thousand times, unbeknown to me that there was an elegant space filled with art, concealed just behind the facade!

Despite the large spacious rooms and beautiful bones it was actually the choice of furniture that stood out to me - a blend of contemporary finds and the occasional vintage piece as well as the deep earthy tones including forest green, red, ochre and slate - adding. contrast and cosiness.

All it needs now is for someone to take over the reigns and make it their new home. Could that be you?

Did you spot the projector on the wall in the first picture? I can't tell if the owners have made a box to conceal it themselves, or it was bought like this (I'm thinking the former), either way it's so subtle - way better than a big TV screen, don't you think?

Is there anything that popped out at you?

Have a lovely day folks - stay warm!

A stunning Malmö home

Well hello Malmö! It's incredible the homes that pop up on estate agents in Sweden's third largest and southern most city (and home to yours truly!). OK I might be biased, but I heard that this stunning home is spreading across the blogosphere like wildfire and a) I'm never one to miss out and b) it's here in my home town. So here it is a 1920's apartment currently for sale. Could it be time to upsticks and move to Rörsjöstan (malmö's boho quarter)? Or perhaps simply draw inspiration from the emerald green, yellow and monochrome colour combination?!

Fastighetsbyrån found via Emma's Design blog with thanks.

I want that bathroom... I LOVE the tiles, dark grey ceiling and emerald green lion claw bath. I know someone who will love those tiles in her new home too (see my friend Sofia's previous home here).

How about you? Anything stand out to you in particular?

Have a lovely day!

Natalia's Malmö Home In Warm Earthy Tones

I finished off the year with a list of 20 wonderful things to do in Malmö in wintertime - so it makes sense to start the new year with a peek inside a local home, don't you think? This beautiful apartment belongs to Natalia Andersson, a landscape architect and owner of Atrium - one of my favourite haunts (which of course, I included in my guide!). Natalia, her partner Adrian and their three-year-old son Mateo used to live over Atrium before relocating across the street to this larger 96 meter square (1033 foot square) apartment dating back to 1909. Natalia and Adrian have invested a lot of time renovating the space, gradually transforming it into the lovely family home it is today. Ready to take a tour?

Natalia is particularly happy with the bespoke kitchen - which was built with the help of a local carpenter.

A limestone countertop rests atop cabinets that have been built from scratch and painted in griege (4005-Y20R).

The kitchen walls have been painted in Skimmingstone by Farrow & Ball, which gives the entire space a lovely warm feel. Lampe Gras provides task lighting.

The rooms have been furnished with a blend of Swedish antiques and vintage finds as well as newer pieces by the likes of Scandinavian brands Artek, Norrgavel and Skovshoved Møbelfabrik

The sitting room walls have been painted in Jotun Sand.

Tip: When you have high ceilings it's important to include items that help draw the eye upwards and accentuate the height in order to balance the feel of the room. In this case a beautiful rubber plant does the trick!

I love the old wooden side table.

A good rule of thumb, is to include at least one vintage or antique piece in every room. It will instantly add a unique touch and a wonderful feel to the space - it also serves as a great talking point as people are always curious about the story behind it!

The bedroom wall has been given a lick or two of Nordsjö Deep Paris

Such a lovely home - it feels so balanced and full of harmony.

This reminds me that I really should head to Natalia's wonderful Atrium cafe for a brunch as soon as possible, it's only a 5-minute cycle from my house, so no excuses! In case you missed my guide - here's a glimpse inside:

A roaring fire and a good book. What else could you possibly need on a cold January morning?

Would you like to take a peek around a few other Malmö homes today?

Firstly of course, there's our townhouse by the sea - see the before and after - although those of you who know me well, know my home will never really be 'finished'!

Har det så bra!

Tour Brit's delightful home with touches of pink and gold

I've had trends on mind these past few week (as you can tell from my colour feature and your home = your sanctuary posts) - as we start a new decade there are certainly some subtle changes on the horizon.  But for all lovers of 'millennial pink' out there (of which I am one) - you'll be excited to hear that's one rosy hue that's here to stay. Hey, even if it wasn't, I'd have it in my home anyway! But no one loves the hue as much as Brit.  Self proclaimed 'Midwestern gal' Brit Arnesen is an interior stylist, blogger and enthusiastic DIYer with a penchant for dusty pink and golden tones. She shares her home with her 'one and only', 'two little loves' and one very handsome cat! Enjoy the tour!

Keep an eye out for these dried fan shaped palm leaves - they're everywhere right now, whether displayed in a vase or as a key player in fabulous floral installations

So pretty! Not sure if I'll ever tire of the dusty pink / gold combination, how about you?

And more pink inspiration here:

Are you a fan of pink?

Seeing the shell cushion reminded me of this write-up over on Emily Henderson's blog - such an interesting read! What are your thoughts?

Have a fab day - shells or no shells!
