Elina Dahl's happy home

This apartment belongs to talented Swedish designer Elina Dahl (currently for sale). It looks like such a happy home. I love the choice of colours in the sitting room, and Elina's wonderful prints through out.

Styling: Klara Markbåge, photography: Karin Foberg for Älskade hem

We need a post sorter like this in our home - our post is soooo messy with piles of it all over the breakfast bar. Someone once told me that you should only ever handle an item you receive in the post once; i.e. as soon as you open it, file it / recycle it/ whatever immediately. How are you with this?! I'm hopeless despite best efforts!

If you like Elina's prints, you could try your luck in her give-away to win a print of your choice this week. And while we're in the mood for competitions (always) there's a great one over at Nest to win an original 1227 Anglepoise Desk Lamp here.

Have a lovely day!

A pretty seaside home in Denmark

I love this pretty apartment in Copenhagen. The owner, Othilia Thalund (Nordic agent for Meridiani and owner of interior shop Othilia Decor) has lived in many places with her two children, some of which have been huge in comparison, but this light and airy fisherman's house with sea views resonates with her the most.   The home is decorated with items she has collected over the years and combines Italian design with ethnic influences and Scandinavian simplicity. So beautiful!

This is my dream home with it's wonderful location by the sea, sense of history and beautiful interior! What about you?

PS  A bit random but does anyone know where I can buy a white four poster bed ('himmelsäng') in Sweden?! :)

Have a lovely day!

Black, white and cognac in a Swedish apartment

Good morning! How are you today? Here, the sun is shining and the sky is blue - which makes it very hard impossible to concentrate! As always Alvhem have styled this apartment to perfection with it's white walls and floors and monochrome with cognac colour theme, very lovely! Makes me want to rush home and start removating (with pots and pots of white paint!).

Alvhem

I have sooooo many ideas for my home and such little time but I think one of the first things I'll do is buy some shelves like the ones in the top picture for my little girls bedroom (I love the Muuto stacked shelving system in particular).

For black and white prints I'm all over this diamond poster set by Kathapult which I acquired over the weekend. What about you?

I hope you all had a lovely weekend!

Perfect dining settings alfresco and indoors

It's Friiiiday - woohoo! Whether you're having a casual weekend at home or a get together with friends and family, here are three very different table settings, all lovely in their own way. I'll be taking inspiration from all the pretty scented jasmine and vines and the strings of light bulbs. Beautiful!

Imagine a party under the boughs of that tree by the beach?!

When it comes to the great outdoors and eating I have a very particular taste - as you can see from my alfresco board on Pinterest! However, if you're into the more contemporary style you'll love this outdoor lounge by Studiopepe and for cool roof top living check out this post (loving the apple green table).

If you're looking for outdoor furniture Nest have the most amazing collection of contemporary pieces. Or for garden furniture on a shoe string, the fab Roxö chairs in grey (as shown in the last three pics) from IKEA are a perfect choice.

For some fantastic inspiration on how to bring green indoors check out the home of florist Sarah Nolan. Or for simplicity, how about floating plants in glass, so beautiful!

It's going to be SUNNY here in Southern Sweden all weekend so I'll definitely be working on my (tiny) garden and sipping mint tea a chilled glass of Sancerre while my girls mix mud and water to make cakes :) How about you?

Have a wonderful weekend!

Styling at it's best

If I was lucky enough to own my own brand one of the first things I'd do would be to hire a fantastic stylist and photographer to take some lifestlye images. Like these ones from the HK Living spring collection shot by Finnish photographer Paulina Arcklin. I mean, how great?!

Not sure where to start - the exposed brick wall painted white? The fab throw and rugs? The vintage bar stools? The wooden stool with the orange seat?!  What about you?

Happy Swedish national day! We're off to the beach :)

Wednesday DIY - hallway cloud

With the arrival of Summer (sort of) here in the North, little feet are going in and out of the front door all day long to collect scooters, tricycles, buckets and spades.....a doormat is therefore essential, but they're often so boring aren't they? I was so excited to come across this very cool cloud shaped DIY door mat by Shine Design. It's cool, cheap and quick to make! Genius!

Shine Design with kind permission

Here's how to make it: buy a door mat like the Lynäs from IKEA. Find a cloud shape you would like to replicate and use a bowl to draw around to recreate the shape on the doormat. Cut out with a pair of scissors!

Something for your hallway perhaps?

PS I love hearing about DIY projects for the home, if you have any you would like to share please send me an e-mail at myscandinavianhome@gmail.com.

Have a lovely day!

A warm black and white home

Some homes are so striking they spread across the blogosphere like wildfire. This monochrome apartment currently for sale in Gothenburg is one of them. It's incredible how much warmth a touch of wood and patterned rugs can add to a black and white home.

What do you think?

I have black walls in the guest bedroom and in the kitchen but truth be told I'm a little tired of them now that it's summer and I'm thinking of changing them both to something lighter. What do you think?

Thank you all for entering the Fouta De Val give-away last week. I am very excited to announce the winner: Laura Gosselink. Congratulations, and good luck with your move to Sweden in three months time, we hope you like your Haidra in black / grey fouta!
