An Elegant 19th Century Swedish Home With Grey Accents

Why, hello there! How is your week going? Here in Sweden, it's a bank holiday ('Kristi himmelfärdsdag = Ascension Day). A thunderstorm has rolled in over the water and so we're all bunking up at home - and I'll probably be spending most of the morning in this corner! One of my other favourite hobbies is looking at houses and apartments for sale (do you enjoy that too?) - and I was so excited to see this late 19th century space in Gothenburg, Sweden. There's something about the beautiful wood floor, cornicing and dramatically high ceilings that have got my pulse racing. I love the subtle light grey nuances too - you could move right in and not change a thing! If only the owners would leave the furniture behind too - I spy some fab design classics! 

A Gubi semi-pendant lamp* hangs over an oval shaped dining table which has been circled with iconic wishbone chairs*. 

It's really trendy to do away with the upper kitchen cabinets. It looks lovely and clean, but sadly, only possible in larger kitchens (unless you're a total minimalist!). 

I've also noticed darker stone worktops creeping into kitchens, and slowly replacing lighter marble tops. Although I have to say, I still really love our countertop at the cottage (keep an eye out for our recent summer cottage kitchen update tomorrow!).  

I spy a classic Danish Bestlite BL6 wall lamp over the sofa. They're pricey but I think they're a great investment as they're timeless. 

And just look at those elegant double 'spegel' doors!

Another classic: the owners have made a reading corner out of the well-loved Swedish DUX Jetson chair and String shelving - both of whom have their headquarters here in Southern Sweden. 

A Flowerpot table lamp* catches the light on the desk in the bedroom (&Tradition also do a portable version of these which you can take out and use on your garden table!) and a Hay polygon quilt has been draped over the bed. 

Could you imagine living here? 

I certainly could. A pied á terre perhaps! *Dreaming*.

An Magical Rustic Family Farmhouse In Rural Finland

I hope you're having a great week! The warm weather has finally arrived in Southern Sweden so we've spending lots of time down outdoors making the most of it! The leaves have burst into life, and a drive through North Skåne countryside yesterday reminded me so much of a trip I once made to Finland. Have you ever been? I remember feeling mesmerised by the rolling hills, the wildflowers and my first sighting of a moose grazing in a meadow. It was magical! I wish I'd known about this rural home owned by Hanna and her husband Tomas and their children Frans, Hilda and Eedvin at the time of the trip, it would have been perfect for my Relaxed Rustic book (formerly known as 'Modern Pastoral').  Located in Western Finland, the rustic farmhouse is filled with beautiful vintage and antique finds against a backdrop of 17th century architecture and romantic wallpaper. When the family aren't tending to their sheep and chickens, the children are tearing through the rooms on a trike - just as Tomas' family have done for generations. In the words of the Finns: tervetuloa sisään! 

How magical!

Tea For One In My Favourite Corner!

You can take a girl out of England, but you can't take England out of the girl, isn't that what they say? And no amount of delicious Swedish coffee can persuade me to drop my tea! Are you a tea drinker too? If so what type do you like best? For me, it depends on the occasion, but I never go a day without a mint tea, especially in the afternoon! My latest work for Bodum (along with Helen Sturesson) was therefore an absolute dream - and although I haven't been not sponsored to write about it here on the blog, I thought it would be nice to share a snapshot of your work and my favourite corner of my sitting room with you all the same! Plus, the teapot is really lovely too!  

As you know, we only have a teeny garden, but I still make space to grow mint. I'm planning on harvesting a whole batch to make tea leaves over the winter, but for now, I love putting a fresh sprig in my cup! I also noticed the garden centre had some 'mojito mint' which naturally caught my attention! Do you think I should go back and get some? I kind of regret that I didn't! 

It's rare for me to get this corner all to myself - it's everyone's favourite spot in the house! 

In case you're curious - we kitted it out an Ikea Söderhamn chaise longue (you can often pick these up for a song second-hand) which I added a Bemz loose fit linen cover in Pebble*. 

We've had this trusty blanket from H&M Home for years (I think they still sell similar ones) and the linen curtains were custom made by not PERFECTLINEN* (note the different options for finishes - mine are 'hem for clip rings'). 

The little wooden tray is from Nordal, and the beautiful Assam tea press with bamboo handle and Thermo mug (it's made from double glass so you can hold it comfortably!) are from Bodum. Monday Mood: An Edinburgh Home That celebrates A Slower Pace of Life

I got to know, and fall in love with Edinburgh, Scotland as a student. And these days, I love to see how the beautiful old apartments mature into adulthood - through the lens of Nina Plummer. You might recall I featured Nina's Georgian apartment back in 2019, but so much has happened since then (including an entire bathroom and hallway renovation), that a new home tour has been well overdue! Nina's beautiful, earthy apartment reflects her thoughtful approach to homemaking, and is filled with pieces from Ingredients Ldn - her and husband Craig's online homeware store that celebrates a slower pace of living. A perfect vibe with which to start the week, don't you think? 

Absolutely beautiful! 

I particularly love the bathroom, it's exactly how I would like to decorate mine should I own an old house (one day friends, one day!).

A Swedish Photographer and French Hat-Maker's Home in the South of France

Do you ever dream of moving abroad? If so, perhaps this story might inspire you! This beautiful old house in a small village between Nimes and Montpellier in Gard in the South of France belongs to Swedish photographer Anna Malmberg, French hat-maker Joncha and their son. Anna had dreamt of living here ever since she saw 'Le Glorie de Mon Père' as a young girl and Joncha grew up in Valence. In the summer of 2020, the family packed up their Stockholm apartment and followed their dream to live in a warm climate, closer to nature and the mediterranean sea. This is their home. 

The living space is a sea of earthy tones, layers of texture and lovely vintage and antique pieces. You might recognise the rug in this picture. It's from Cappelen Dimyr - a Swedish rug company founded by Ellen Dixdotter, who's Copenhagen home and Swedish country kitchen I featured a few weeks back. Anna recently did a photoshoot for the company in an incredible chateau! 

Yes, Sweden is a small world!

The brown chair was a recent flea market find. And what a find it was - these curved pieces are really hot in the world of interiors right now, and I like how usual this piece is. 

The walls have been painted with natural limewash from Bauwerk Colour, which adds lots of lush texture. 

Anna's home office space is bathed in a beautiful morning night and a fab Carl-Johan lamp* by Olssen & Jensen can be seen on the far side of the desk. 

Sign me up for an evening in this spot under the stars - I'm sure Anna and Joncha have so many stories to tell from their travels! 

What a beautiful home. While the rain comes down for the fourth day in a row here in Malmö, I completely understand why the family might go in search of sun! Sign me up!
