A cool Swedish home with inspiring touches

The sun is shining, the weather is sweet. Here in the Gothenburg archipelagos we're keeping cool with dips in the sea. But when the heat really takes it's toll (I see in New York it's going to be up to a scorching 47?!) - it's perhaps time to retire into the cool indoors. Personally, I'd choose to take homage in this Swedish space - simply because you're never far from nature (oh OK then, and because it's beautiful!). It's full of inspiring ideas too. I'm taking note of the sofa in the bedroom (there's something a little lyx (as they say in Swedish) about having one of these in a boudoir don't you think?), the wall of shoes (yes!) and a bold geometric rug in the entrance. Let's take a tour....

Is there anything that catches your eye?

I absolutely love the J39 chairs by Børge Mogensens- Danish friend Karen-Maj Kornum tells me they're simply referred to as the 'Folkstol' (or the 'people's chair') in Denmark.

Other items I know and love: dining area - bamboo pendant lampshade (how pretty is this one too?), Eames chairs. office - jute rug (love this). bedroom - stonewashed bed linen, Vee Speers prints found here and here.

Jonas Ingerstedt is one of my favourite swedish interior photographers. I've featured so many of the homes he's captured on here before (with kind permission) - including the home of a Swedish fashion designer and a home that sings (if you love colour you'll love this home!). And of course Jonas' own home is nothing short of fabulous too!

And a little weekend link love I thought you may enjoy.....

Why stop at sofa's in the bedroom? This home has a credenza in the bathroom.

The Broste spring summer inspiration images look loooovely and fresh.

Chocolate for breakfast - that's a yes from me!

I can't tell you how many compliments I've had on my new glass bottle.

Speaking of which - the winner of the Nordal pure linen tablecloth and napkins (seen in action here) has now been announced on instagram here! Drum roll.....

On that note, I'm off to leave you to have a fabulous weekend! I hope the sun is shining where you are too.

A beautiful Gotland home in shades of soothing grey

A post in the midst of the Swedish summer calls for a tour of a house tour in the Swedish holiday heartland - the beautiful island of Gotland! Owner Sofie Nordenberger (founder of fab online shop Oh Living) and her family live in a limestone house with 1 metre thick walls (that's insulation for you!) in the western part of the island. The interior has been beautifully, yet simply decorated in calming shades of grey and soft textiles - creating a soothing yet relaxed vibe. Let's take a tour....

What a house?! And that garden? I need to speak to the man about Gotland....good transport links these days I hear....!

Get the look from Sofie's lovely home: hall / sitting room - soft grey blanket, Charocal linen by the metre, source a similar industrial pendant here. Dining - Artek stools. Bedroom - Lamino armchair, chunky knit blanket. Children's bedroom - Miffy lamp.

Check out this post to find out how I achieved a similar look and feel on my walls...

I love the way this home has been photographed by Carina and Anna! Previous tours the duo has captured include - a rustic Norwegian cabin, the home of a collector, and an idyllic Swedish country home. I'm not sure how they always manage to find such lovely homes?!

You can take a peek inside Anna's own home here (beautiful - as predicted!).

We're on an island ourselves right now in the Gothenburg archipelagos - one of my favourite places in the world! Have you ever been? If not... make these islands top of your list for next summer!

Have a lovely day and see you Friday!

A Stockholm apartment with a touch of glam!

Do you find that often the best summer holidays turn out to be the ones on your doorstep? My family and I are on the Danish island of Anholt right now (OK, not exactly on our doorstep but near enough!). The sea is crystal clear and the island is circled with a ring of white, powdery sand - just beautiful! Don't be fooled by the water though, it's a little fresh!  We're heading North today to the Gothenburg archipelago (one of my favourite places - if you haven't been, it's a must!). But before we head off I wanted to check in and share this lovely Stockholm apartment with you which has been designed by Mainstreet. It's the glam 1920's art deco touch that caught my eye. Perfect inspiration to kick off the week?!

Mainstreet

Kind of lovely don't you think? Loving the touches of brass! And that window above the door?!

Could you imagine knocking about in this city pad?

Get the look....this is a great round brass coffee table (this HAY table is also very cool), source a Beni ourain rug here. This lamp with a touch of brass is a new favourite (and I love this round Tom Dixon tea light holder).

Since we're on holiday I'm planning on posting every other day this week, I hope that's OK? I've got two little girls and a man eagerly waiting in their swim gear, towels over shoulders.....

Have a great start to the week!

My home: dining area make-over

Last week I gave my home dining space a bit of a make-over with a lick of paint and some beautiful items from the Danish brand Nordal. Although Nordal's been around a long time, I only recently discovered the shop - and what a find! It's a family business which started when the father (Ingolf) fell in love with beautiful old Indian furniture. These days Nordal designs and sells a wide range of their very own beautiful pieces, while being careful to keep the original Nordal DNA. Anyway, I'm in love, and now I have a calm space at home to enjoy long brunches with family and friends! I hope you like it too!

What do you think?

I can't tell you how long I've been looking for a nice colour for the back wall. Thanks to Gen's recommendation, I finally settled on ALCRO fjäder which I mixed with a sand additive (Roll-A-Tex) for a more textured / lively finish. And I love it!

Here's a low down of other items in my dining area:

 1. dinner plate  2. cake plate 3. cup 4. tea pot 5. soup bowl  6. Chopping board 7. Cutlery 8. pure linen napkins  9. pure linen table cloth 10. glass bottle

The pure linen tablecloth and napkins are so fab! I was so excited when I received them that I've gone and organised a give-away here on instagram so you can win your own set! It only takes a second or two to enter (open until Friday 22nd July, 2016).

Sponsored post -  this post was made possible by Nordal. All words and thoughts are my own and I only ever work with products and services I truly love and think you will too! Thank you for supporting the brands that make My Scandinavian Home possible!

An inviting apartment with warm tones in Södermalm

I love the warm tones in this lovely apartment in Södermalm, an area in central Stockholm known for it's relaxed and creative vibe. The yellow, burnt orange and deep red accents help to create an inviting feel. All that's missing is the warm glow from candles in the masonry oven and you're all set for a rainy day! Speaking of which, I like that there's a grey base to the space too - adding yet another dimension and a great contrast to the warmer hues.  Keep an eye out for all the different lighting it in every corner too)....

I love this home, it's kind of creative, elegant and sophisticated, yet relaxed at the same time. What are your thoughts?

Did you notice the ceiling in the kitchen?

A few items I know and love from this Stockholm home? (Oh go on then!): Sitting room - Tiki sofa. Try Loom and Field for lovely kilm cushions / pillows (like this one), source a mid-century daybed here. Dining area: Artek chairs, AJ floor lamp, the light is from Örsjö - this industrial light is similar (love this!).

Have a lovely day!
