The beautiful (and inspiring) kitchen of an interior designer

You can guess that someone who works in the world of interiors is likely to have a pretty great home. And my friend interior stylist Genevieve Jorn's is a fine example of this! You probably recognise the name as we often work together on projects and I love visiting her apartment in Malmö (as you can imagine!). A few months ago I featured her work space, and this week I thought I'd share a tour of her fab kitchen. Despite being a rental space and a fairly narrow kitchen with some awkward angles, she's been able to do so much with a few small updates, great items and lots of imagination. For example, a large window at the end of the room floods the space with light and bounces of a wall which Gen has painted in mat black and used as a gallery wall. And I love the little bistro table with just enough space for an afternoon fika (that stool!), the way the hanging plant catches the light, the row of hooks used for tea towels, and an iron trolley for extra storage - so inspiring! Let's take a peek...

Such a lovely space don't you think?! The plants, wood and textiles bring just the right amount of warmth. And trust me, it's such a great place to sit and enjoy Gen's freshly baked pumpkin bread with her and her little girl, Olivia.

Get the look from Gen's kitchen:

1. Wall rack and hooks 2. linen table cloth 3.  Iron shelf on wheels 4. Tea towels 5. AURA wall lamp 6. Cast iron pot 7. Cast iron pan 8. Olive kitchen brush, spoon and whisk  9. cast iron tea pot 10. Black wood stool. Although not featured in the montage - I also love this round chopping board and sign.

More kitchen inspiration for the weekend: two Swedish kitchens, a French kitchen with a modern twist (this space had you divided), and a Scandinavian inspired Bulgarian kitchen (great light fixture!).

I'm so excited that Halloween is just around the corner - did you spot the green pumpkin in Gen's kitchen? First one to find it and comment gets a surprise from Nordal in the post (don't forget to leave a way for us to contact you)! If you're thinking of making something pumpkin-based this weekend you might want to take inspiration from these pumpkin pancakes - and that setting?! - beeeeautiful! I like the look of this pumpkin cheesecake too yuuuum!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend -  the clocks going back here mean we get a whole extra hours lie-in - LOVE that! If I'm lucky I might even get this (here's hoping....)!

See you Monday!

PS Since I'm in London for the kids half term there'll be a few less posts next week but I will be dipping in and out so definitely stop by!

A dramatic Swedish space with black walls

Hello, I hope you had a great weekend? Despite the beautiful sunshine outside I thought we'd kick off the week with a bit of drama with this elegant Swedish studio apartment with black walls. The living space is laid out over two rooms - one large room making up the sitting room and bedroom and a seperate kitchen. I especially love how the period features have been painted in a crisp white which truly makes them pop, and of course the space has beautiful original wood floors and large windows too. Imagine having this as your city pad? Fabulous!

What do you think? Tempted to add a little drama to your own home?

Get the look: bedroom - grey linen bedding and white linen throw. Sitting room - vintage leather sofa, Russel James and Paolo Roversi print. Kitchen: Voliéres bird pendant lamp, Thonet chairs, copper pans, chopping board, Dagg vase, Smeg fridge freezer, toaster.

More spaces with dramatic dark walls you may have missed: A swedish home in dark blues, greys and greens and a Stockholm pad.  Or how about black floors? (I really love this space!).

Have a lovely day!

PS it's the last day to enter the fab give-away to win 5 Scandinaviaform vases from Blackthumb. It only takes a sec to enter here

Black and navy in an elegant Swedish home

My Scandinavian Home has been all about colour this past week - and the home tours have really put a smile on my face - I hope they have filled you with inspiration! But dark broody spaces in muted tones are beautiful in their own kind of way too not to mention super elegant - and in the autumn - like a wonderful cocoon. This Swedish home styled by Sasa Antic and beautifully captured by Kristofer Johnsson embraces one of the key colour combinations for A/W15 - black and navy.

Beautiful! Dramatic, yet calm -  quite a combination!

Is this your kind of style?

A guide on where a couple of items are from: vase, snoopy lamp, Flos suspension light.

Other incredible Swedish homes captured by Kristofer Johnsson include this Dalarna home of a calligrapher, the Stockholm home of a fashion stylist and the monochrome home of Annie Lindgren.  I also love all the inspiration in his 'Greyscale' tumblr - beautiful!

Don't miss stylist Sasa's own home here and lots more pictures of today's home tour here.

Have a lovely day!

PS I was overwhelmed at just how popular yesterday's post was - if you missed it, I can definitely recommend checking the home tour out here.

Lovely black floors in the home of a French stylist

I can't seem to get enough of black floors right now. While the previous home had high-gloss black painted floors, this wonderful French home has matt stained floors for a rougher texture. French stylist Anne-Fleur Broudehoux, one half of Roseanna, immediately fell in love with this former shop in a hidden courtyard in Paris and has turned it into a wonderful home. It's teeming with vintage and second-hand finds and beautiful Morroccoan rugs which pop against the black backdrop. Are you tempted yet?!

What a lovely relaxed home, don't you think?

I love the clever built-in headboard which brings the bed away from the wall to create extra space for shelving. The open shelves make a really personal feature and add a little cosiness to the room.

Find a similar array of rugs at Beldi (I once featured Beldi's owner Tamsin Flower's cheerful home - which is full of lovely Boucherouite and Azilal rugs - perfect inspiration!

Is there anything that stands out to you?

Other beautiful French homes to admire today include Elodie's Bordeaux townhouse and the home of a French fashion designer.  Oh la la!

Have a wonderful day!

PS If you're stuck in the office today - close your eyes for a minute and dream you're a million miles away on this swing. Did it do the trick?!

A happy Swedish home with black floors and bright colours

As I finally complete my off white floor  - this Swedish home comes along and throws everything up in the air! GRRR! Will you take a look at those glossy black floors?! What a striking backdrop the black and white makes for all those bright splashes of colour and lush plants?  Owners Hannah and Don Billberg are an impressive duo. Using a shoe string budget they set about building the home and then furnishing it with flea market finds and items bought second hand online -  and a bucket load of imagination. The result is a truly inspiring, vibrant family home. What a perfect tour for the weekend, let's take a tour....

Wow, I love this home. It's so refreshing! I love the creativity with which it's been put together. How about you?

I first visited Sweden when I was around seven years old to visit Ullis and her family (who are still great friends today). Her mother Yvonne, has a loom and she'd make these wonderful rag rugs. I've been a huge fan of them ever since - they're just so simple and such a great way of brightening up a space. I love how the colourful rag rugs in Hannah's home pop against the black floor too. Try Etsy for similar.

Other simple ideas to steal from this lovely home:
- Create moodboards using colourful pictures to brighten up a hallway, or delicious looking recipes cut out from magazines in the kitchen.
- Add a touch of comfort to bent wood chairs with fluffy, bright colour seat cushions.
- Adding a splash of paint to a simple box makes a fab wall-mounted bed side table.

Is there anything that stands out to you?

You can see more of Hannah's charming home on Instagram

For more inspiration this weekend I'm loving this cheerful Swedish home with bright splashes of colour and another home with black floors but in a whole different style. Or perhaps you're inspired by green floors or even red floors?!

Have a wonderful weekend and see you Monday!

Stockholm space with touches of black and gold

Hello, I hope you had a wonderful Easter break?! It's our last day in London today, the sun's shining and the spring flowers and blossom are out, yay! My girls are waiting to go to the park with my sister's Goldendoodle - they're going to miss her! But first, a home to share. This time a split level apartment in Stockholm decorated with a splash of black and gold and touches of designer, mid century and vintage pieces. Oh and a little outdoor inspiration too, after all it's almost barbecue season, right?! If the sun's not shining where you are, I hope this space brightens your day!

Fantastic Frank

Black and gold. What a fabulous combination, don't you think?!

Have you noticed the 'black' wood outdoor trend of late? If it's not the house itself it's the garden fence. Flowers and greenery really pop against it for a striking effect.  The table and chairs are similar to the popular Swedish designed Grythyttan outdoor furniture (I'm thinking about getting a set for my own garden). I love this outdoor string lighting too. For more outdoor / garden inspiration I'm loving some of these spaces. More inspiration squirreled away here too. Oh OK, let's go all the way - pool anyone?! I just love the 'long-day-in-the-garden / nearest park season don't you?!

I spy the brass bumling light and string pocket shelves. Source mid-century furniture on Live Auctioneers or Lauritz.

What are you up to today? Anything fun? We're flying back to Sweden tomorrow so I'm heading off to enjoy one final day of fun with my girls.

Have a lovely day!

PS - thank you for entering my easter give-away, the winner of the Elina Dahl print has now been announced here
