Snapshots from Sina's Scandi Inspired Apartment in Hamburg

I've been featuring lots of Scandinavian summer cottages lately and thought today I'd take a break and head back into the city to share a vibrant apartment with you! Sina's 45 m2 / 484 f2 home in North-West Hamburg, Germany (4-hour's drive from southern Sweden, and even closer to Denmark) has a distinct Scandi vibe. It could be the minimalistic touch, the hint of colour and stripes so loved by the Danes right now - or the Sax Le Klint lamp as well as other Scandi design pieces or, most likely it's a combination of the three! Keep a look out for the corner shelving (so smart!) - and see if you can spot the well camouflaged TV! Ready to feel inspired? 

This lovely Crayon lamp in blue is by danish brand Hubsch (I really like the green version too!). The kitchen wall has been painted in K/11-23-38-20/T by Kolarat.

The chair is from IKEA museum. 

The shelves are made up of a selection of IKEA units - which have been combined to fit the space. 

The print is from Stilleben - one of my favourite Danish stores (known for colourful and handmade items). 

The pretty yellow floral bedding is from Gina Tricot. I didn't know they did homeware and was surprised to discover a whole range of lovely bedding for those on a budget! 

So many nice ideas!

A Warm and Inviting City Apartment For a Rescue Dog and Her Owners

Hi there kompisar! Scrolling through my instagram this weekend (as you do); I struck upon this dining room shot from the feed of Johanna Brüggemann, and it stopped me in my tracks. After a little messaging, I discovered that Johanna is founder of Studio Gingko - a digital creation agency, and lives with her husband and Spanish rescue dog Elli in Kiel, Germany. A quick google maps route finder search tells me that Johanna's home is a mere 4 hour's drive from where I live in Malmö, Sweden - which might account for the touch of Scandi (I'm seeing so many fab Scandi design pieces!). But let's not kid anyone here, Elli totally steals the show - I love that she's made herself completely at home in almost every corner of the home. Perfect Monday vibes!

In Spring and summer, the family head to their allotment cottage nearby.

The Fabulous Eclectic Home of A French Antique Dealer

Bonjour, ça va? That's about the limit of my French. I studied French at school for five years - and now almost every word has been replaced by Swedish - what's the deal with that? Mind you, I never have been much of a linguaphile! Language abilities aside, I think you might have guessed that I'm whisking you away to France today.  An antique dealer, Sonia has filled her home in Ardèche, an hour from Lyon with funky, eclectic pieces from all different eras and countries. Throw in a disco ball, bold wallpaper and lots of art and you have a home bursting with character - where old meets new. Bienvenue chez Sonia! 

Oh mon dieu! 

How fantastic!!! 

It's the kind of home you need to return to time and again for inspiration - and you'll spot something new every time!

The Scandinavian-Inspired Home of a Florist in Kyiv, Ukraine

This beautiful, harmonious family home in Kyiv, Ukraine popped into my mailbox recently. It was designed by Elena Petresku, who tells me she is safe and well and working as a volunteer while she awaits the opportunity to return home. The apartment belongs to florist Oksana Oliynyk and her family who turned to Elena for help to transform their early 20th century building a few steps from the magnificent Kyiv Pechersk Lavra monastery into a calm, Scandinavian-inspired oasis. The aim was to create a space where 'the people and their relationships come to the fore... (and) the interior does not distract from what is important'. After a year long project and tremendous amount of work, the lovely apartment was completed in 2021 - and in my eyes, has achieved everything they set out do - and more! 

For the client, a professional florist, it was important to have a large dining table where she can create bouquets. Over head, two Flowerpot pendants provide light after dark.

The project included a restructure to make the space more functional. This included uniting the kitchen and living room which then flows through to the master bedroom. A small balcony off the kitchen provides a spot to enjoy a morning coffee.

The interior taps is inspired by the minimalist Nordic expression with natural materials, white and grey colour palette, combined with shades of timber and pared back furnishings.

A built-in wall-to-wall closet creates a ton of storage in the master bedroom (this type of storage is a game-changer, I have firsthand experience after installing my own wardrobe recently!).

The storage unit in the children's bedroom was custom-made to maximise space.

*Note: Elena tells me she is safe and well and currently working as a volunteer in Italy as she awaits the opportunity to return home. I am also told Oksana and her family are safe, although Oksana and her daughter miss their apartment very much and were sad they didn't have more time to enjoy it. They too, hope to return home soon and be reunited as a family.
