A Warm and Inviting City Apartment For a Rescue Dog and Her Owners

Hi there kompisar! Scrolling through my instagram this weekend (as you do); I struck upon this dining room shot from the feed of Johanna Brüggemann, and it stopped me in my tracks. After a little messaging, I discovered that Johanna is founder of Studio Gingko - a digital creation agency, and lives with her husband and Spanish rescue dog Elli in Kiel, Germany. A quick google maps route finder search tells me that Johanna's home is a mere 4 hour's drive from where I live in Malmö, Sweden - which might account for the touch of Scandi (I'm seeing so many fab Scandi design pieces!). But let's not kid anyone here, Elli totally steals the show - I love that she's made herself completely at home in almost every corner of the home. Perfect Monday vibes!

In Spring and summer, the family head to their allotment cottage nearby.

The Fabulous Eclectic Home of A French Antique Dealer

Bonjour, ça va? That's about the limit of my French. I studied French at school for five years - and now almost every word has been replaced by Swedish - what's the deal with that? Mind you, I never have been much of a linguaphile! Language abilities aside, I think you might have guessed that I'm whisking you away to France today.  An antique dealer, Sonia has filled her home in Ardèche, an hour from Lyon with funky, eclectic pieces from all different eras and countries. Throw in a disco ball, bold wallpaper and lots of art and you have a home bursting with character - where old meets new. Bienvenue chez Sonia!

How fantastic!!! 

It's the kind of home you need to return to time and again for inspiration - and you'll spot something new every time!

The Scandinavian-Inspired Home of a Florist in Kyiv, Ukraine

This beautiful, harmonious family home in Kyiv, Ukraine popped into my mailbox recently. It was designed by Elena Petresku, who tells me she is safe and well and working as a volunteer while she awaits the opportunity to return home. The apartment belongs to florist Oksana Oliynyk and her family who turned to Elena for help to transform their early 20th century building a few steps from the magnificent Kyiv Pechersk Lavra monastery into a calm, Scandinavian-inspired oasis. The aim was to create a space where 'the people and their relationships come to the fore... (and) the interior does not distract from what is important'. After a year long project and tremendous amount of work, the lovely apartment was completed in 2021 - and in my eyes, has achieved everything they set out do - and more! 

For the client, a professional florist, it was important to have a large dining table where she can create bouquets. Over head, two Flowerpot pendants provide light after dark.

The project included a restructure to make the space more functional. This included uniting the kitchen and living room which then flows through to the master bedroom. A small balcony off the kitchen provides a spot to enjoy a morning coffee.

The interior taps is inspired by the minimalist Nordic expression with natural materials, white and grey colour palette, combined with shades of timber and pared back furnishings.

A built-in wall-to-wall closet creates a ton of storage in the master bedroom (this type of storage is a game-changer, I have firsthand experience after installing my own wardrobe recently!).

The storage unit in the children's bedroom was custom-made to maximise space.

A Warm Home Which Nails the In-Between Season Vibe!

Hi campers! How was your weekend? Ready for a home tour with some inspiring details? This lovely space in Heidelberg, Germany belongs to Danilo and Paolo. The duo are passionate about the home, flowers and travel - all of which come together in this harmonious living space. I particularly love how they have mastered that 'between season vibe' when the light returns, the spring flowers have bloomed, and yet there's still a bite in the air.  Keep a look out for kilim rugs, spring flowers, candles and blankets, a beautiful bathroom cabinet and a ceiling height palm. Ready to feel inspired? 

This home has such a lovely feeling. The spring flowers, blankets and candles certainly help - a perfect between season combination! 

Tip on plants: mature greenery like this palm can be expensive. Keep a look out for similar plants on budget-friendly second-hand sites such as gumtree and eBay - here in Sweden businesses are often selling off plants like these when they update their office). 

Another tip: Annie at We Are Here Now sells lovely vintage kilim rugs.

A Cool Yet Calm Rose-tinted French Family Home

Every now and again I come across an entirely unique home that totally draws me in. This is one of them. The house (from the early 1900s) is located in Nancy, North East France and belongs to Coralie, so doctor,  her partner Nicolas, an architect, and their three adorable children. Coralie has a penchant for pink - the dominant accent throughout their home - but twee it's not. Her preferred pink is distinctly calming (Setting Plaster by Farrow & Ball to be precise) and when paired with neon, brass, ochre, wood and rattan it emits a wonderfully bang up to date look that's cool and contemporary yet incredibly calm. Ready to feel inspired? Pull up a seat and enjoy the tour - I've added a few tips on where items are from - just in case you'd like to get the look at home!
