Dreaming of an escape today? Allow me to whisk you away to depths of the Swedish forests, and this fairytale getaway! Nestled by a lake in the southern Sweden wilderness, Urnatur, meaning 'primeval nature' is the brainchild of forester HÃ¥kan Strotz and forest biologist and edible plants expert Ulrika Krynitz. The pair are passionate about ethnobiology and the interaction between man and nature and wanted others to experience an eco-retreat where you can get away from it all and go back-to-basics.
Made up of an off-the-grid treehouse and a series of cabins built by Håkan and decorated by Ulrika, Urnatur invites guests to stay on Sjögetorp and Renemo farms and make the most of everything the surrounding nature has to offer. Sleep in the trees or snuggle up in a cosy log cabin before taking to the lake in a kayak, foraging for berries and other delicacies or cooking supper over an open fire. You might also want to explore the farm shop for lovely local wares too!
It does look wonderful, I have to say - and a far cry from my studio in Malmö where I am tapping away at my laptop today.
Could you imagine spending a week or two here come summertime? If so, visit the Urnatur website for more information.
Speaking of escapes, Per and I finished the summer cottage master bedroom renovation this weekend and I took my camera with me to take a few shots! We are so thrilled with the outcome - even more so since we carried out all the work ourselves. I can't wait to share the results with you on Wednesday. I hope you'll like it as much as we do. See you then!

Love these little cottages and what a great place to take a much needed retreat! (I have family in Malmo, but I’ve never met them. I live in Iowa in the US.)
ReplyDeleteYou must visit Malmö one day - and when you do, perhaps you could take the 3 hour journey to this wonderful place too!
DeleteLove this little slice of heaven in the woods.....we all need to escape back to to a simple times with nature. I cannot wait to see your master bedroom!
ReplyDeleteWe do! Thank you, just finalising the post ready to go live in a few hours time :) I hope you're going to like it!
DeleteI love this! Such a unique idea, and it does look fairy-tale-ish (I'm inventing a new word). As always, I'm curious about the bathroom arrangements. Thanks for sharing this!
ReplyDeleteFairy-tale-ish is a wonderful word and description!
DeleteI'm loving fairy-tale-ish too! Word of the week!

ReplyDelete:) everyone can do with a few days in the forest!
DeleteThe stairs and bridge set the stage for anticipating what waits for you ahead. What an idyllic spot to be ensconced in nature. The sunset over the water is breathtaking. A really good example of njuta!
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed! It completely embodies njuta!
DeleteIt's not as rustic on the inside as I was expecting. I would imagine that there is an outhouse or two on the premises? And a toaster? I wonder how that works.
ReplyDeleteI was curious about this also, so I went to the main website. This is a rather large complex, with 8 different cabins. The photo with the toaster and the lights is from a building separate from the main complex. This building houses a shop, reception and conference center. They have some from of electricity and wifi in that building, but none in the cabins. There are several outhouses on the premises, as well as showers. Water is heated by solar power, or by gas when needed.
DeleteThank you for delving into this Rita! I should have mentioned this and described it more in the post, sorry about that! Maybe I should pay visit so that I can get the complete low down... just for you guys, of course! ;)
DeleteOne word: stunning!!
