The relaxed, vintage inspired home of an artist

Why, hello there! I hope you had a wonderful weekend?! While photographing (some beeeeautiful) homes for my book a few weeks back it struck me that they were almost entirely filled with one-off pieces - picked up on travels or found in flea markets, which made the spaces truly special.  I stumbled across this lovely creative home on Apartment Therapy captured by Natalie Jeffcott the other day and it too, is filled with a unique array of treasures, all of which come together simply because the owners Ben and artist Heidi Yardley love them. Situated in a converted stable at the end of a quiet cobbled lane in North Melbourne (what is it with me and Australian homes right now - did you see last week's posts?!), Ben and Heidi's house has been filled with vintage and second hand finds, for a lovely relaxed, bohemian vibe which is as personal as it is fascinating.

Photography by Natalie Jeffcott / Apartment Therapy.

Every time I look through the pictures I spot something new. Did you see the arm for example (it makes sense when you look through Heidi's portfolio)?! And of course their very handsome cat Nico!

I love the colour scheme in the bedroom... so inspiring!

It's these elements of surprises which make the home so fascinating, don't you think?

Get the look: pick up a mid-century credenza here, macrame plant holder, this is a great source for vintage easels. Vintage tin boxes.  Heidi's art. I love the round chair in the bedroom but haven't found anything like it - any tips?

More beautiful artists' home to feel inspired by: a beautiful Copenhagen home in a former sculpter's atelier, an artist's home and studio in Stockholm, a Swedish artist's home in a former school.

Have a great start to the week!

PS Don't forget my talented friend Maria is offering 15% discount off her fabulous designs in her shop until the end of October. To redeem simply enter 15RABATTSCANDI at check-out - I've already picked myself up the Little Darling lamp love it! (ships everywhere in Europe).

A beautiful apartment in a 1920s art deco build

Oj oj oj (as they say in Sweden)! The end of the week has really crept up on me. How great is that?! It's probably because I've been virtually padding around this Swedish space and sunning it up down under at a beautiful estate! I think it would be a shame not to complete the week with one final Scandinavian inspired Australian home tour, don't you? Designed, styled and decorated by Lynda Gardener (also the brains behind yesterday's barn conversion and that estate - yup, she's talented), The Apartment is a boutique rental accommodation in Melbourne's St Kilda. It's located on the third floor of a wonderful 1920s art deco building and has been styled in one off pieces, pure french linens, toasty warm blankets, hand crocheted rugs and vintage oil paintings. It sounds like one of those places where you can check out anytime you like but will never want to leave....(eh hem)....

That 1920's building is just incredible?! I love how Lynda's used so many natural textures too, it all looks so warm and inviting.

Could you see yourself staying here?

Get the look from this lovely apartment:  sitting room - this rug is similar, source lovely vintage portraits here. Chunky crochet blanket. Kitchen: macrame plant hanger, I love this bamboo light shade. Bedroom - reindeer skin, stonewashed linen striped duvet cover. Bathroom - H&M used to sell this shower curtain - I've been looking around on the web for a similar one but no luck yet - any tips?

Have you got any great plans for the weekend? We're having a little birthday party for my daughter who turned 6 this week - so much fun (will need a glass of this to recover though - and while on the topic, how pretty are these simple DIY ice cubes, perfect for the weekend?)!

Have a wonderful couple of days and see you Monday!

PS The nominations are now open for Elle Decoration Sweden's interior blogger of the year award here, I'd be so happy if you feel My Scandinavian Home deserves to be in the running!

A beautiful, rustic barn conversion

While drooling over the house at The Estate Trentham featured in Tuesday's post, I couldn't help but notice they also have a beautiful barn on the grounds too (used for events, gatherings, workshops, weddings and photo shoots). And I do love a barn conversion don't you?!  This particular one has been decorated with white washed walls, and a concrete floor, with exposed wood beams and rustic trellis tables adding a lovely natural touch and warmth to the space. Outside, the grounds include a mini orchard and harvest garden - oh to live nearby and have the excuse to have a party here, it all sounds so romantic!

Could you imagine getting together with friends or having a workshop here? I see bookings can be made here. Just saying!

Get the look: these vintage wood and metal stools are similar (if sold - source more here). This pendant lamp is similar. Buy beautiful stonewashed linen the metre here (or a ready made tablecloth here).

Other barn conversion inspiration I love includes: a fantastic, modern Swedish home in a converted barn (also featured here), an all white home, and a rustic retreat on Sweden's west coast. What a treat!

Have a lovely day!

PS I would hate to be seen inviting myself to parties, but if you do go and have a party here I make a great guest....

PPS - I received a message from Bloglovin this morning saying 'wowza, you just reached 50,000 followers' - that's quite a number and hard to imagine in real terms! Thank you so much for following My Scandinavian Home, you're wonderful!

A beautiful Swedish space with autumn tones

Oh have I got a treat for you today. This fabulous Swedish apartment incorporates all the latest trends (marble, aged wood, a Lampe Gras, linen (sofas and bedding!), Gubi beetle chairs, black framed windows and even a Vapeur light!) - and features lovely, cosy Autumn touches (the earthy tones on the wall, amber accents, the flowers)...and all so beautifully put together too. Can I move in with everything intact please?

A dreamy home-from-home in Australia

Third gloomy day in a row here and I have to admit I'm not feeling the 'hygge'. And no amount of candles, sheepskins and kanelbullar are going to help. Instead, I'm dreaming about a visit to The Estate Trentham, and it seems to be lifting my spirits no end! Located an hour from Melbourne and inspired by Scandinavian interiors (cue white washed walls and a pared-back look) The Estate Trentham is an original early twentieth century three bedroom federation house surrounded by beautiful gardens. And if that's not enough, it's also been artfully decorated with lovely muted autumn colours, soft natural textiles and a wonderful mix of old and new. In other words my ideal get-away and the perfect antidote to gloomy days! Excuse me while I search for flights....

Photography: Lisa Cohen (shared with kind permission). Book a stay at The Estate Trentham here.

See you there?!

I wanted to be able to use this little space to pick out a small detail but I have to say, the whole house is positively dreamy!

Is there anything that stands out to you in particular?

Get the look (if my home looked even a little like this I'd be thrilled): pick up an industrial pendant here, I like this jute rug. The sofa looks like a Gervasoni ghost (beautiful!). This online shop sells cushions in autumn colours.  Vintage scissor lamps. I like Kara Rosenlund's horse and nature inspired prints.

Loving the neutral colour scheme with touches of brown it reminds me a lot of Kara Rosenlund's home which I featured a few weeks back. Maybe I can do this Autumn thing after all!

More holiday rentals in my archive  here (you so knew that was coming right?!).

Have a lovely day!

Georg Jensen - You can never be too much you

As one of three sisters and mother to two (wonderful) girls championing women is something I'm passionate about. If you feel the same you'll feel so inspired by Georg Jensen's latest campaign.  Georg Jensen has been on the cutting edge of design for more than 112 years and renowned for artistic boldness, superior craftmanship and visionary collaborations with leading artists and designers. 'You can never be too much you' encourages women all over the world to empower themselves and never compromise on their personalities.  The campaign stars 5 influential and inspirational women who are 'demanding, strong, provocative, loud and ambitious': award winning film director Susanne Bier, WBA, WBC and WBO world champion welterweight boxer Cecilia Brækhus,  the world's best female chef Dominique Crenn, award-winning comedian Sarah Kendall and professional motocross rider Behnaz Shafiei. The campaign video is so unbelievably powerful, and the message applies to everyone, not just women.  I hope you feel as moved and inspired as I do!

'you will always be too much of something for someone: too big, too loud, too soft, too edgy. If you round out your edges, you lose your edge'

- Danielle LaPorte.
