Fab new book: Maker Spaces by Emily Quinton

I'm often being asked to recommend interior books, which is why I'm so excited to be invited to participate in the blog tour for Maker Spaces by blogger, photographer, mother and maker Emily Quinton. Featuring creative interiors from the homes and studios of inspiring makers and designers, the book is totally up my street. Whenever I hear the words 'illustrator', 'artist', 'set designer' I pretty much know their home is going to be fab. And Emily has compiled a lorry load (13 to be precise) of beautiful homes, studios and ateliers of this kind in one place - Maker Spaces! Described as a 'visual feast of ideas for home styling and decor from inspiring makers and designers' the book covers everything from a super-trendy East London studio to a San Fancisco apartment. Here's a sneak peek.

The book includes oodles of examples of incredible things the talented owners create, as well as gives ideas of how to re-create some of the details you see in your own home. We like!

See other interior design books I love here. And in case you missed them - a few Scandinavian maker spaces I have gathered here on My Scandinavian Home include the home of a Swedish designer, ceramicist and fashion designer. Oh so beautiful.

PS Don't forget to stop by over the weekend to enter my fab Easter give-away - I think you're going to love the prize!

The happy home of a Dutch illustrator and ceramicist

I'm so excited to share the family home and studio of Dutch illustrator and ceramicist Nina Van de Goor with you today. This lovely space is a true, vibrant, happy home bursting with bright colours, bold patterns and fun around every corner. Nina's work, which is also about colour and a mix of vintage and new materials is evident on the walls and surfaces and adds to the playfulness of the creative space in Den Bosch, South Netherlands. Such a happy home, don't you think?

Wow, I was smiling the entire way through the tour - I hope this home has brightened up your day and given you lots of inspiration too?!

Thank you so much to Nina for sending me over all these images. You can keep up to date with Nina's latest work on instagram and her blog.  Her wonderful ceramics and illustrations are available on Etsy.

More fab homes bursting with colour include this, this and this one. Love me a bit of colour today!

I landed in London last night to spend time with family over easter, so excited to be here! I'm going to have a mini break from posting tomorrow but I will be back on Friday and then again over the weekend with a fab easter give-away!

Have a lovely day and see you Friday!

The lovely home and atelier of an artist

This Friday I'm part of the  'Makers Spaces' blog tour, a new book by Emily Quinton. And it got me thinking about the wonderful creative spaces people live and work in. Johanna Bradford  and Kristin Lagerqvist shot this simply beautiful home and atelier in Varberg on Sweden's West coast a while back. With a sea-view on one side and forests on the other, it's the perfect place for Lisa Burenius to paint and enjoy life with her family - Petter and Eddie. The artist describes her interior style as 1930's with a personal twist, and loves to surround herself with personal objects, books and ceramics. Her advice is to 'listen to the house and trust your instinct. A home should be personal and warm, it should tell a story about who you are'. I feel her home is a perfect example of this, don't you?

Stylist: Johanna Bradford (with kind permission). Photographer: Kristin Lagerqvist

It's wonderful to see an entirely unique home where the personality shines through. It's got soul.

Lisa has some great ideas too - I love the way the books have been arranged so that some are facing outwards and piled high. I also like the simplicity of the fern leaves in jam jars and the retro set of garden furniture outside. All in all, a truly inspiring home.

What do you love most about this space?

You can see more pictures here if you'd like.

It's well worth checking out Lisa's website  too- I love the video showing her at work in the atelier.  Her work is available here.

I often dip into the art studio archive for ideas. And my office Pinterest board has oodles of work space inspiration. Hey, if we've gotta work we might as well make it pretty, don't you think?

Have a lovely day!

PS do you have a wonderful maker's space I can share on the blog this week? If so, drop me a mail!
