The lovely green / grey home of a Swedish stylist

You may think I'm going 'Tant Johanna' crazy at the moment - in the past two weeks I've featured two spaces she's styled (here and here) and on Friday linked to her past homes (here and here). And then today I discovered she's moving again and her home is online. How could I not share it with yours truly? It's such a lovely space. The apartment is located in the heart of Gothenburg and yet has a slight country vibe thanks to the pretty floral wallpapar, vintage / antique furniture and linen curtain used to hide outdoor gear in the hallway. I love the green / grey hues throughout too. What a perfect home to start the week, don't you think?!

Gothenburg anyone?!

I particularly love the corner of her bedroom. The beautiful paint colour Johanna's used in the bedroom has been a huge talking point across Swedish blogs and even in magazines. The code is: S 3005-G20Y.  I love the Bestlite BL7 wall lamp and the antique side table which has been upcycled using grey marble (potential DIY project?). The Linen Works sell beautifully soft charcoal linen bedding.

For small, relaxed touches I like the string of fairy lights around the door frame and the macrame wall hanging in the sitting room which add a boho vibe.

How was your weekend? I'm reeling from a wonderful couple of days at The Hive in Berlin (such a great conference and city!). Thank you to all the enthusiastic, smiling faces in the audience - you made it a real pleasure!

A pretty Gothenburg apartment with a fab work space

Hello Tuesday! It's a beautiful morning here in Southern Sweden. The sun's shining, the sky's blue. Spring's finally arrived and it's time for morning coffees in the garden- yay! This Gothenburg apartment is so Scandinavian fresh with it's white walls, light wood walls, muted tones and natural textures. I'm inspired!

Such a beautiful space don't you think?!

The work space is truly wonderful and not that difficult to achieve. You can get the look using String system shelves, a bright coloured cardboard basket or boxes for stationary, an industrial-style frame fitted with cool Moroccan style tiles (love, love, love these!), a chrome desk lamp and basket for paperwork.

The other thing I like about this apartment is my breakfast's already laid out waiting for me.....boiled egg anyone?!

Penthouse apartment in Stockholm, yes please!

Happy Friday! And Oj oj oj, look at this beautiful Stockholm apartment. I love it because it has everything I love in a city home - wooden beams, a fireplace, concrete stairs, white walls and a wonderful roof top view. 'Underbara!'. And the good news? It's actually for sale through Fantastic Frank. Oh yeees. Mr Frank You've made my Friday, you really are fantastic! 

Around the table I spy the Urban chair in white from IKEA. But where is the wonderful cluster light from? Any ideas?

Beautiful, white concrete stairs. Tick!

Fab two toned colour scheme :) and just look at that shiny gold lamp. Tick tick tick!

Cosy Danish Outdoor Lights - Handmade Using Recycled Glass!

Determined to make this autumn and winter as cosy as possible, I've added some new lights to our little backyard. After all, once the sun sets, it becomes very dark, very early, very quickly, and there's nothing like the warm glow of lights to lift your spirits! These beautiful ReUse light chains are from Pernille Bülow - a small atelier on the Danish island of Bornholm.  Regular readers will know that Pernille Bülow is a big favourite of mine and I have SO many beautiful handmade pieces from this atelier around my home (including SKY lamps and Odin tableware).  But there's something EXTRA special about these outdoor ReUse light chains, and the clue is in the name. Read on to discover more! 

True to Pernille Bulow style, each of the 9 pendants are mouth blown and handmade in the workshop in Svaneke, Bornholm (if you're ever on the island, you must pay a visit - I love the shop!). This means that each glass light is ever so slightly unique - one of the wonderful hallmarks of handmade pieces. 

I used two sets in our little back yard to create a little extra glow (the chains are three metres long and attachable, so you can easily string together as many sets of lights as you wish which is really handy).

Best of all? The ReUse collection is made of waste from Novo Nordisk, a Danish pharmaceutical company that has large amounts of excess borosilicate glass from their diabetes drug production. Rather than going to waste, Pernille Bülow remelts and moulds the glass into beautiful objects, including these ReUse light chains and a pendant lamp! 

The light chain also come with 9 2 W energy optimised LED bulbs which are CE marked. 

In order to really put them to the test, I invited a few friends over from the neighbourhood for an autumn evening alfresco - (any excuse!).  

It was a bit of a 'knytkalas' - where everyone (including my dear friend Ullis - above - and interior designer Jessica Ward - below) brought whatever they had in their fridge and wine cabinet! 

We had such a mysig (cosy) evening under the warm glow of the lights - even if coats were a must! Brrrr!

Roll on more autumn evenings al fresco! And even when it's time to move indoors, we'll still enjoy the twinkle through the window!

The Beautiful Swedish Home of a Visual Merchandiser

What does your forever home look like? Is it OK to have a forever city home and a forever weekend country retreat?! A girl can dream, right?! If permitted, my forever city home would have bones just like this beautiful Swedish one. Think sky-high ceilings, stunning architraves, double 'spegel' doors and original parquet floors. Aren't they lovely?! Swedish visual merchandiser and design student Cajsa Berndtsdotter has worked with the colour and furnishings to make sure that they positively shine too. 

The plant in the window of the dining room has been placed on a plinth to make it even taller and work with the height of the window.

Tall upper cabinets use the full height of the room (which work fine if you store little-used items higher up).

One of the beauty of high ceilings is having the space for statement lighting (like this Pholc light*) which lower ceilings don't allow for.

 AJ floor lamp*, leather butterfly chair*

A low almost invisible shelf painted in the same colour as the wall is ideal for magazines, plants speakers etc.

Painting walls a darker shade (these are 'neutral grey 6000) helps a room with high ceilings to feel cosier and also allow the cornicing to pop. I also love how Cajsa has used curtains in the same colour as the wall. Curtains really are a home's best friend - they help to dampen sound, reduce drafts and make the space look cosy (and they can hide a multitude of sins!) - total winner!

Barely there IVAR cabinets from IKEA have been painted in the same colour as the wall for a cleaner look and feel while the beautiful original door has been painted in a contrasting white for a spotlight affect. 

Such an inspiring home! And although we might not have features like this to play with, there are still so many wonderful ideas to take away, don't you think?

I'm in a bit of a rush today as we're in the middle of a renovation (I'm sitting here amidst complete chaos and can barely breath for dust, plus I can only feel three of my fingers as we had to turn the heating off! But I haven't missed a weekday blog post since 2011 and not about to because of a little dirt, cold and chaos!). Oh and I need to pack for London  - eeeeek! Hurry!

An inspiring small studio full of contrast

Well hello there! I hope you had a fab weekend? We woke up to a clear blue sky and plus temperatures here in Southern Sweden - oh how long we'd been waiting for that moment! All along the boardwalk faces were angled up towards the sun, soaking up the warm rays. This morning it's as though everyone has a new spring in their step! And I have another reason to feel happy -  call me a total home geek but I do love clever use of a small space. And when it comes to interior designer Joakim Walles studio apartment in Stockholm, it seems that the best things really can come in small packages! Looking at the apartment, it's hard to believe it's a mere 44 metres square (473 foot square - I hope I got that right?! I've been known to get it wildly wrong.....!), Joakim has completely renovated the space - adding in open shelving by Porro and bespoke kitchen and bathroom cabinets. To top it off, the space has been furnished throughout using a perfect blend of industrial, vintage, and designer pieces. The result is a home full of natural light, contrast, wonderful art and a lovely lived in feel. Oh, and it's for sale!

Stockholm anyone?! 

Such a clever use of space, don't you think? I especially love the open shelving used as a division between the sitting room / kitchen area and bedroom. Not only does it create some privacy, it also allow light to slip through, and provides a perfect place to display favourite books, ceramics and artwork.  Got to love that!

Is there anything that stands out to you? 

A couple of items I know and love in Joakim's apartment: Taccia lamp by Flos, source vintage industrial pendants here, the Series 7 arm chair. These wonderful mobiles I posted about recently here are similar.
