An Idyllic Finnish Summer Cabin on the Water's Edge

Hello friends! I hope you had a wonderful weekend! Here in Scandinavia, it looks like the summer isn't ready to give up on us just yet - and we're being treated to a last hurrah, with blue skies and sunshine. In honour of this, I'm excited to be taking you on a tour of a wonderful Finnish summer cabin. Perched on a rocky incline, overlooking the water, the timber cabin is situated on a secluded island close to Rymättylä, South Finland. Owner, Nina Ahonen - interior designer and stylist - has created a wonderful, laidback oasis, from which to switch off from the world and enjoy the magic of the surroundings. The cabin is accessed by boat from Helsinki. Here's a peek inside.

How incredible!

When we're out sailing (binoculars out!), I often spot idyllic cabins like this one on the various islands we pass. They always look so idyllic.

Could you imagine wiling away a summer here?

Other Finnish summer cabins and cottages to love:

And for something more year-round with ALL the warm feels:

Gaaah, take me to Finland (I'm currently obsessed with this country as I've just written an article for a magazine about Lapland - I promise to let you know once it's published!). It's such an incredibly varied country - from the summer paradise in the south, to the frozen Arctic Circle in the North where husky sledding and the Aurora Borealis await!

Here's to an inspiring start to the week!

A White, Light & Airy Cabin on a Danish Island

One for the minimalists - or simply those of you dreaming of owning a Danish cabin! Kristina, an Interior design consultant, has put her white washed cabin on the Danish island of Fur in the Limfjord, just North of the Salling Peninsula, on Jutlund on the market! The Dane has a penchant for all things minimalist, carefully curating her living spaces with only what is needed and nothing more (I've tried to source as many as I can for you!). Tones are soft and muted, with the odd splash of black for contrast, and the architect of the building (think wood panelling sloped ceilings and beams) shines through to add interest. The look is serene and calm - perfect for an interior designed for relaxing and switching off from the hustle and bustle of everyday life!

Lovely - like a breath of fresh air! - And just waiting for someone to come along and put their personal stamp on it! Sadly if I recall right, you are not allowed to buy a property in Denmark unless you are a Danish citizen. But a girl can dream, right

If you fit the criteria and interested - reach out to Kristina here. For all others, you might like to check out Kristina's inspiring feed which also includes pictures of her beautiful house in Randers, Denmark.

Is there anything you love about Kristina's cabin in particular? Could you imagine spending your summers here? I've heard great things about the island of Fur. Sadly it's a little too far for us to sail to, but we're looking forward to discovering other Danish islands when we set sail this summer. Exciting!

Would you like to see a few more Danish cabins today?

Happy Lillördag (little Saturday)!

A Danish Cabin That's All About The Hygge!

Once upon a time I shared a lovely apartment belonging to Sarah Bjørumslet. The title of the post read 'keeping it real in a Danish family home in the heart of Copenhagen'. And I still remember how refreshing I thought it was to see an unstaged home complete with milk cartons on the table and toys strewn across the bedroom floor. Hooray to everyday life!

I've been following Sarah's instagram feed @look_good_in_blue ever since and was excited to see that her 'cosy, old school' cottage is available to rent this summer! Situated between Rørvig and Nykøbing North West of Copenhagen, the cabin was built in the 1950s as an artists atelier, before becoming a relaxed getaway by the sea. Read on to discover more!

Sarah says it's full of games and DVDs - a perfect way to wind down, especially if the Danish weather isn't playing ball!

Mismatched crockery and glassware adds to the laidback vibe of the cabin and a glass cabinet keeps everything at hand!

The cosy kitchen is leaning towards the cottage core vibe we are seeing so much of right now and reminds me a little of Hannes Mauritzen's little Swedish allotment cottage (if you haven't seen the tour, head on over!).

I'm guessing the big chest is full of toys - or maybe blankets! What do you think?

The sofa pulls out into a bed for extra guests - essential in a Scandinavian summer house as friends and family often stop by for a night or two (always bringing their own bedding, as is customary).

I love how books are never far away - perfect for a rainy day!

The ethos of the Scandinavian summer is to spend as much time outdoors as possible. Here, a little play house has been set up for children, and simple outdoor furniture serves as a spot to sit around the fire. After all, it wouldn't be Danish without the hygge!

Guests don't need to wander far to reach the most magnificent sand dunes and beaches! I personally, love that part of the world - so beautiful!

If you're curious about renting Sarah's cabin this summer, the best way to reach out / book is via instagram: @look_good_in_blue

Is there anything that stands out to you about this cosy cottage?

It would be rude not to share a few other lovely danish cabins with you today - after all, summer is fast approaching and the weather here in Scandinavia is beautiful right now! Why not pour yourself a cup of coffee and take a peek at:

Have a lovely day!

A Cosy, Riverside Cabin Where Cool Scandinavian Meets Warm Californian style

Oh, have I got a dreamy cabin to share with you today. Not only has 'River Cabaan' been decorated to perfection by owners Karie Higgins and Lee Gibson (both of whom are spatial designers) - artfully combining Scandinavian design, mid-century and as touch of California to create a cosy nest - the cabin is also completely secluded and overlooks the Wilson River, just one hour from Portland, Oregon. Think spinning well loved vinyls on the deck, books by the fire and a cosy riverside fire pit. How's that for getting away from it all? Oh yes. And it's on Airbnb too. I think it would be rude not to book a stay, don't you? Just got to make my way across the Atlantic first. Enjoy the tour!

Sofa from Cb2Serge Mouille wall light*, at by Caroline Walls, cane chair from France & Son

Meet you by the fire pit?!

In case you need any more convincing, there are a load more pictures over at @rivercabaan

And bookings can be made here!

Thank you so much for the tip Allan!

Shall we take a peek at a few other cosy cabins? I know it's only Tuesday - but there's nothing like dreaming of a secluded cabin to get you through the working week! Here are some of my favourites of late:

I'm still dreaming about our weekend at my friend's cabin in the woods a few weeks back too. Perhaps it's time to book another visit?

Have a lovey day friends, stay cosy!
