A Swedish space with lovely warm pools of light

It's beautifully sunny here today, the sea is all sparkly and I'm itching to go the beach (should I just drop it all and go?!!). Having said that you don't always need to be outside to enjoy the sunshine - take the bedroom in this lovely Swedish apartment for example. You can practically feel the warmth from the pools of light (and as for that chunky knit blanket). I also get a lovely summer vibe from the white linen curtain billowing in the wind and the balcony (perfect for people watching in the sun with one of these!). The rest of the home is pretty fab too, with a perfect blend of indigo, black and white in the sitting room and stunning herringbone floors. All in all, a great home for a touch of mid-week inspiration, don't you think?!

Oh so lovely! Nice work by stylist Johanna Bagge for Alvhem (photography - Alice Johnsson).

A couple of other items I know and love: chunky knit blanket, white linen curtain, Flos 265 wall light and Tom Dixon beat light. Annalena clothing rail (in the corner of the bedroom).  I'd love to know where that beautiful coffee table is from - any ideas?

A few other links I love today:

This 'Outlanders' video about weaver Maryanne Moodie in Brooklyn (what a lovely home!). If you find weaving tricky - you might like this 'no-weave' DIY wall hanging.

A shower with a view (not sure I'd dare use it at night, how about you?!).

How about these this evening?

Have a lovely *sunny* day.

The inspiring home and studio of Maaike Koster

I'm so excited to share the beautiful home and studio of Dutch graphic designer & interior designer Maaike Koster in Haarlem, The Netherlands today. Maaike has an inexhaustable passion for transforming ideas into inspiring concepts, beautiful designs and sophisticated spaces. And fortunately for us she frequently shares her family home, where she references much of her artwork (sold through 'My Deer Art shop') -on instagram (if you don't follow her, you definitely should!). Maaike's home is teeming with vintage pieces, the odd design classic, fabulous art and an abundance of greenery with an overall look which truly reflects her signature style - 'uncomplicated simplicity with a feminine touch'. Enjoy!

Photography / home owner Maaike Koster - My Deer Art Shop. Shared with kind permission.

What a charming home, don't you think?

Did you recognise it? I once featured Maaike's home here in 2013 - although I must say, it's gone through a pretty big transformation since then!

Get the look: All art from My Deer Art Shop. Sitting room - Eames lounge chair & ottoman, beni ourain rug, macrame plant holders and wall hanging. This antique apothocary chest is wonderful! Eames DCW chair. Children's room - source lovely vintage childrens desk and chair sets here. Studio - black work lamp, eames house bird.

And if you feel like getting a little creative after seeing Maaike's home, why not give one (or all) of these DIY projects a whirl:

Abstract modern art.

An easy leather strap shelf.

A wooden X shaped magazine holder.

The Icelandic Birch Cocktail- (this counts as DIY, right?).

Have a lovely day!

A lovely Swedish turn-of-the-century apartment

Hello! I hope you had a fab weekend? It was lovely and sunny here in Southern Sweden so we spent most of the time in the garden, with friends popping in and out and kids coming in for the odd plaster for a scraped knee (a true sign of summer?!)- just the way a weekend should be right?! And suddenly, at the blink of an eye, it's back to work - Guh! But it's not all bad - I have a really beautiful home to show you! This turn of the century Swedish gem in Gothenburg has everything a home design lover could ask for - light-filled large rooms, high ceilings, lovely period features and owners (designers?) with impeccable taste! Let's feast our eyes......

Stadshem. Photography: Jonas Berg.

*So lovely* - don't you think?

I especially like the home office in shades of grey, with a daybed for reflecting and light streaming in through the balcony doors (see the master bedroom and the rest of the tour here). Perfect! Is there anything you love in particular about this home?

Get the look: kitchen - white bumling pendant light, Dagg vase, N°214 wall light DCW, rustic stool (love this!). sitting room - Private 0204 rugs are similar, black moroccan pouf, marshall speakers, Adnet mirror, Tati coffee table. Hallway - Sinnerlig bench. Bedroom - sinnerlig daybed, sinnerlig lamp, Eames chair.

I got really pin happy yesterday evening - here are a few of my favourites:

Fab affordable limited edition art for your walls

I'm always on the look out for original art for my walls, but it's not always affordable. Do you find the same? If so, you'll love L'Affiche Moderne, a French online gallery presenting the works of young photographers and illustrators for both adults and kids (because you're never too young to become an art collector right?!). All the prints are digitally printed on high quality paper (or satin canvas) and are strictly limited to 300 editions for each format (one small and one large) and come with a certificate of authenticity. And here's the thing - they're affordable too! What's not to love? Here are a few of my favourites....

1. Volcano, Iceland by Manuel Bardoux, Trois Moineaux, Hokkaido by Ludmila Espiaube, Aggregate by Yuji Otsuki 2. Rabbits and Stripes by Caroline Morin 3. Inside Mademoiselle by Wilona Swann 4. GO by Kentaro Minoura 5. Jungle and Rivière by Simon Bailly 6. Beautiful Rain by Kentaro Minoura

Do you have a favourite?

I think mine is Cerulean Dream (I have a bit of thing for seascapes!).

There are many more delightful limited edition prints available at L’Affiche Moderne. Although we'd all better hurry, once they're out they're out!

Oh and if you're an artist, L’Affiche Moderne is always on the look out for new talent and welcome submissions. If it's original, of good artistic quality and they like it, you could see it added to the gallery!

This post is sponsored by L’Affiche Moderne. However, all words are my own. I only ever collaborate with partners that I love and which I think you'll love too. Thank you for supporting the partners which make My Scandinavian Home possible.

The monochrome home of Swedish interior stylist Elin Kickén

Oh wow - I do believe it's the end of the working week - woohaaay! April and May are my absolute busiest months - do you find that too? It seems the same is happening in the Swedish real estate market - I simply can't believe how many homes are for sale right now - which let's face it, is an ideal situation for all of us!! Swedish interior stylist Elin Kickén is the latest to sell her home (I once showed her previous (whiter) home here). Which means lots of wonderful, inspiring pictures for us to enjoy over the weekend (and if you live in Gothenburg -  even a new home perhaps?!). Elin has decorated her home using a monochome scheme which is softened by warm lustrous textiles and a play with different shapes. Let's take a tour...

Alvhem. Home-owner / interior designer Elin Kickén.

It's safe to say, Elin has nailed the monochrome look wouldn't you say?!

And her small bedroom is inspiring too - a tricky narrow room which she has made look sooooo cosy!

There are so many items I love in this home including: sitting room - the house doctor cluster lamp (available here and here), sofa similar to mine (North from Bolia), Muuto leaf floor lamp. Painting by Karin Wästlund.  Kitchen: Flos aim light. This glass tea pot is similar. Bedroom - white waffle bedspread, By Lassen stropp leather hangers (I've got these in cognac).

Does anyone know where the white armchair is from - I'd love to know... and be able to update the post!

Linkage for the weekend:

What a beautiful hallway?

There's something so Zen about this bath tub! And I kind of like the industrial style of this shower too.

The awe-inspiring 'Thong House' (love the name!) in Vietnam.

A cute porch / terrace.

Loving these nooks and niches.

Trend alert - grey hardwood floors as seen in Elin's home too (we've got these across two floors in our home and I love them!).

Must-have item for the summer - a pom pom blanket, I can't decide on this, this or this one

Imagine dropping everything and moving to a Swedish cottage like this one, is only for the weekend - with not a care in the world!

Have a wonderful end to the week! Skål!

PS Tomorrow I'll be featuring my suggestions on affordable limited edition art so definitely drop by if you have the time!

PPS I'm loving working from home today, our wisteria is in full bloom and the clematis over the arch in the garden is bursting with little pink flowers - makes me #happy! Here's a snapshot of our sitting room with the garden beyond I captured just now from my phone....(although it's a bit tricky to see - might have to get my camera out later!).
