How To Style Your Home With Rounded Mirrors

It is clear that we’re living in the era of rounded objects. While the angles of a typical home are usually blunt and irregular, perfectly circular objects bring a refreshing focal point to our homes. That’s why it is becoming increasingly popular to include rounder and softer shapes in our homes—from rugs, tables and trays all the way to the acclaimed rounded mirror.

We all know the old design trick that using mirrors in the decoration process creates an illusion of a room being bigger than it actually is... but rounded items specifically also provide the room with flow and softness while maintaining the clean lines.

A wall-mounted, rounded mirror can be used anywhere in your home and it can create a statement depending on your choice of size, color and style.

Of course, we also know that this isn’t such a recent trend—but you know what’s recent? The new mentality when it comes to mirrors: "The bigger, the better"—though as we know that also comes with a “bigger” price tag; however, there’s no need to break your piggy bank to get in on this trend.

Here are a few suggestions:

1. Gerald Large Round Wall Mirror Crate and Barrel $299.00
2. Round Frameless Decorative Wall Mirror Target $39.99
3. Ollie Mirror Domino $960.00
4. Round Mirror Brass Target $49.99
5. Cordova Round Mirror Mocha Finish Contemporary Furniture Warehouse $334.00
6. Infinite Round Brass Mirror Cb2 $229.00

What are your thoughts on rounded mirrors?

Wallpaper that will put a smile on your face!

There's been a fun trend creeping into the world of interiors for a while now: patterned wallpaper. And Wallshoppe is looking to ensure everyone has a chance to get their hands on bright and fun designs which will put a smile on your face! Made in the USA and printed from 30% recyclable material with non-toxic ink, you can choose from whimsical and charming to edgy and sweet designs - or even mix and match your favourites. Since they come in a choice of paper rolls or removable panels - you can also decide whether to cover your walls for one night or over a lifetime.  Here's a peek at some of my favourites....

Quick guide in order of appearance: Malibu wallpaper (blue on white), George the Octopus wallpaper, Pacifico Palm removable wallpaper (ivory), Malibu removable wallpaper (cadet blue), Goldfish wallpaper (indigo).

These all come in an array of colours, and there are a ton more designs too! Definitely worth hopping over and taking a look for yourself here.

Aren't they fun? All of the above (except George the Octopus) were designed by interior designer Nathan Turner exclusively for Wallshoppe - and inspired by California living - a little nautical and a little tropical! Love that!

I also love that many of the Wallshoppe papers are really easy to clean - making them perfect for children's rooms or family homes. You might even want to opt for the removable panels so you can take them down and exchange as they get older (it doesn't leave a mark!) - or if (like me) you love to shake things up a lot!

Are there any designs that you love in particular?

This post is brought to you in collaboration with Wallshoppe. However, all words are my own and I only ever work with brands I love and think you will too! Thank you for supporting the businesses that help bring fresh content to your mail box and make My Scandinavian Home possible.

The perfect Christmas gift for travellers big and small

Do you like to travel? I love that feeling of excitement you get when you discover a new place - the sounds, the smells...the wonderful people.  Lately, my daughters have been keeping a record of the places we've been on a great interactive travel poster from Bold Tuesday. If you love to travel you'll love their maps too - which are designed to inspire people to see the world from a fresh perspective. The selection includes a Go! World sticker poster (peel off each country you've been to and put it in a journal) a Find it! World travel poster (a world search travelogue),  Colour! World travel poster (colour in the places you've been), and the List of Countries poster. The latter, which my daughters have, features 196 countries, from largest to smallest and includes the names of the capital cities underneath because 'knowledge is power'! It also comes with little red stickers so you can mark the places you've been. Love that! If you'd like to pick one up for yourself or as a Christmas pressie Bold Tuesday are offering an exclusive 15% discount on any poster (use the code 'myhome15' at checkout to redeem) until 12th December! Here's my daughter's List of Countries poster......

Travel combined with minimalistic design - what a perfect present?!

Note that the last day Bold Tuesday can guarantee worldwide delivery by Christmas is December 13th - good to know!

Have a lovely day!

Decorating my home with posters and prints

As you may know from pictures of my sitting room, I'm a big fan of art. If chosen wisely, it can really add a lovely personal touch to the home (and brighten up every corner). A few weeks ago I was invited by Swedish company Desenio to choose a selection of posters online (I absolutely love my job sometimes!).  It was perfect timing as I'd been planning on jiggling things around in our open-plan living space for a while. And now the bubble chair (do you remember that piece?) has made way for a new reading corner and gallery wall. Oh and I took the chance to update my drinks trolley with a lovely forest print too. Here's a sneak peak....

My Scandinavian Home
What do you think?

You can find all the art prints seen in these pics of my homes here: Forest, Cotton plant, Hungry, Limited, Skeleton leaf, Lune. And buy the corresponding frames online too!

Desenio was founded in Stockholm by Martin and Helena Blomquist who share a great passion for design, home décor and art. These days they work with an inhouse design team as well as a selection of artists from around the world and ship to many countries.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend! I'll be back on Tuesday (once I'm back from our long midsummer weekend). May the sun be shining wherever you are!

PS Give me a shout in the comments section below if you'd like to know where any of the items are from.

Fab affordable limited edition art for your walls

I'm always on the look out for original art for my walls, but it's not always affordable. Do you find the same? If so, you'll love L'Affiche Moderne, a French online gallery presenting the works of young photographers and illustrators for both adults and kids (because you're never too young to become an art collector right?!). All the prints are digitally printed on high quality paper (or satin canvas) and are strictly limited to 300 editions for each format (one small and one large) and come with a certificate of authenticity. And here's the thing - they're affordable too! What's not to love? Here are a few of my favourites....

1. Volcano, Iceland by Manuel Bardoux, Trois Moineaux, Hokkaido by Ludmila Espiaube, Aggregate by Yuji Otsuki 2. Rabbits and Stripes by Caroline Morin 3. Inside Mademoiselle by Wilona Swann 4. GO by Kentaro Minoura 5. Jungle and Rivière by Simon Bailly 6. Beautiful Rain by Kentaro Minoura

Do you have a favourite?

I think mine is Cerulean Dream (I have a bit of thing for seascapes!).

There are many more delightful limited edition prints available at L’Affiche Moderne. Although we'd all better hurry, once they're out they're out!

Oh and if you're an artist, L’Affiche Moderne is always on the look out for new talent and welcome submissions. If it's original, of good artistic quality and they like it, you could see it added to the gallery!

My home: new Mapiful print

I love to be surrounded by meaningful prints (you only have to see the gallery in our sitting room). That's why I got totally over excited about Mapiful - a website allowing you to create your own map print featuring anywhere in the world. I tell you, it was difficult to tear me away!  I considered a few places such as the nostalgic London borough I grew up in, and the romantic Swedish west coast village where my Swedish husband and I met. But I finally settled on one of my favourite cities in the world - Copenhagen. The Mapiful print now takes pride of place in our open-plan living space...and serves as a great reminder that the fab danish capital is just a short hop over 'the bridge' or sail across the Öresund, waiting to be explored! Here are a few pics of my map....

Photography: Niki / My Scandinavian Home

So happy with it! What do you think?

If you fancy creating your own map print,  the wonderful guys at Mapiful are offering all My Scandinavian Home readers a 10 USD discount with the code 'SCANDHOME' (plus free shipping worldwide!).

Where would you choose?

Make sure you share a pic of your print on Instagram with the hashtag #mapiful, I'd love to see it!

A quick guide on where all the other items are from: personalised map print Mapiful /shorebird / Frame 20 box - By Lassen / mid-century drinks trolley - vintage / Guiana Chestnut plant / E27 suspension light / Hektar light / 'Coexistence' by Stephen Gill.

Have a fab weekend!

Bold and beautiful wall murals by Anewall

Hello there! I don't often post on weekends but after our discussion around Karen's home on Friday, I had to stop by and tell you about Anewall. Based in Vancouver, Canada, Anewall prints vintage art, iluustrations and photography and specialise in large prints including wall murals that are printed in house. I absolutely love their self adhesive banana leaf wallpaper, watercolour mural, and map of vancouver. All I need to do now is clear a large wall....

All photos: Anewall

I see they also offer a customised service - meaning you can turn your own photos, favourite quotes, or personal design into a wall decal. Oooo, interesting.

I was in a Danish home recently and they had a black and white wall mural of their three boys wading out to see - it was so personal and such a lovely way to bring a seascape inside, I've been thinking about it ever since.

Do you have a photo or design in mind?

The amazing guys at Anewall sponsored me to write this post - and for me it was a no brainer since I absolutely love what these guys are doing and really wanted to share their work with you! Thank you for supporting my sponsors who make this blog happen.

Happy weekend!
