Welcome inside Juni's Oslo Apartment

From a home on the coast of West Denmark on Tuesday to the Norwegian capital today, it’s been a very Scandinavian week here on the blog. While the coastal property was set among the dunes and awash with soothing pale blues, this beautiful light-filled flat in Old Oslo is flooded with golden sunshine that highlights touches of red, burgundy, yellow — and even light blue (which appears to be a favourite right now!).

The flat belongs to Juni Halseth Strenberg, who recently moved from this vibrant home. Granted, the renovation of her new home is still a work in progress, but I love seeing how her furniture has settled right in.

There are many things I love about Juni’s unique style, but what really caught my eye were the bedrooms. They are narrow, yes, but they make a true statement, with the ceilings becoming a design feature in themselves, while also helping to visually bring down the height of the rooms. I also love the patterned window dressings! And of course, there's that spotty sofa too!

Ready to take a look? Velkommen inn!

I thought you might be curious about some of the colour codes in the bedroom, so here they are:

Single bedroom
Window frame and skirting boards: 'Light' from Jotun
Ceiling: code S2005-B

Double bedroom
Window frames and skirting boards: 'Light' from Jotun

I have to say, I love all the curtains, they really bring together the rooms! Are there any details that caught your eye?

Follow @junik to keep an eye on her latest home updates - I see the kitchen will be ready soon!

Have a fantastic weekend all! Thank you, as always for stopping by, it really means so much!

A Beautiful Oslo Apartment with a Four-Legged Star

Today I have a little treat for you. Not only are we heading to the beautiful district of St. Hanshaugen, an area of Oslo, Norway known for its elegant apartment buildings, leafy namesake park, and sweeping hilltop views across Oslo and the fjord, we’re also being given a tour of an apartment by a hound - an Australian Cobberdog named Oliver, to be precise.

Monica Flatland’s lovely home is blessed with high ceilings, beautiful cornicing and large windows that let in plenty of light. She has cleverly accentuated the height and architectural details by using subtly different paint colours on the walls ('kalk' by Jotun can be seen in the kitchen and living room). I’m especially loving the blue ceiling in the bedroom!

I also love her kitchen, featuring mainly lower cabinets, which enhances the bright and airy feel. But the real star of the show is her beautiful doggy, of course, while the dog-themed art by Monica’s boyfriend (available here) is pretty cute too.

Ready to take a look? Here's Oliver to give you a tour.

Simply beautiful! Granted, Olivier really did steal the show and seems very happy with his home (who wouldn’t?), but I still enjoyed looking at all the details behind him. There’s a wonderful ease about the space.

Could you imagine living here?

Do you have a theme with your art? Looking around my home, people and the human form feature highly in my art, purely subconsciously. I wonder why that is?

Shall we take a quick look at some other Oslo homes today?

Spring-like Shades in Tone’s Calm Norwegian home

Naturally, with any creative outlet, whether fashion or interiors, there will always be trends. But one thing I remain firm about is creating an environment with just the right feeling. A home that helps you thrive really is essential, don’t you think?

I can appreciate more maximalist homes bursting with items and colour. They can be wonderful to look at. But when it comes to my own home, I like things to feel calm. Somewhere I can breathe and truly unwind. How about you? Do you prefer a home that feels busy and layered, or one that feels quiet and soothing? I really believe there is no right or wrong way.

That is why I love Norwegian Tone Trollbu’s service, 'Interior Therapy'. Tone combines interior design with her background in psychology to help clients create a home that truly suits them. Isn’t that such a thoughtful idea?

It helps that Tone also has a wonderful eye for design. You can see this clearly in her own home just outside of Oslo, which balances calm, soft colours with just a touch of edginess to give it personality. Think wavy mirrors, a delicious combination of pink, buttercup yellow, lime green, a hint of terracotta and soft milky tones. There are also so many individual pieces that make the space feel truly personal.

I hope you feel inspired by the tour!

Beautiful.

Did you notice all the art and sculptures? And the mural in the bathroom is such a lovely touch, don't you think?

Was there anything that particularly stood out to you?

If you have the time today, do stop by Tone’s Instagram feed. And if you understand Norwegian, you might also enjoy listening to her podcast, where she interviews experts from the interior industry.

Shall we take a look at a few more Norwegian homes today? How about:

Happy Tuesday friends!

A Cosy Norwegian Home at Christmastime

This is the time of year when I always start to panic — is Christmas really only 14 days away? I have so much to do… how about you? Even so, let’s pause for a moment and enjoy some festive calm inside the charming home of interior designer Guro Jovall, just south of Oslo, Norway. Guro lives with her son, dog and boyfriend in a beautiful house built in 1838 — and at Christmas it becomes truly magical.

Guro’s style blends Scandinavian simplicity with warm, historic character. The tones throughout her home are soft and natural — creamy whites, warm woods and gentle greys — creating a calm backdrop for Christmas greenery and candlelight. I love how the textures do so much of the talking here: the rough, hand-brushed brick by the fireplace, the smooth painted floors, the cosy sheepskins and woollen throws, and the layers of linen on the table. It all feels so inviting.

Look closely at the dining table, and you'll see it's been set with understated linens, sparkling glassware and blue-and-white plates (so pretty!) — a perfect mix of pattern and calm neutrals. It’s the kind of space where I can imagine gathering with friends and family, lingering as the light fades with a roaring fire in the background. Simple wreaths, pine cones and fresh greenery add just enough festive detail, and the soft glow of candles brings everything to life.

I love how Guro's home is the perfect reminder that Christmas decorating can be both subtle and incredibly cosy!

Isn't Guro's home truly magical? Is there anything that stood out to you?

You can see more inspiration and find out more about Guro's interior design services over at @designguro.

If you haven't already explored the Christmas archives, please do pour yourself a coffee, grab a blanket and have a scroll - there are so many beautiful Scandinavian homes and decorations to discover!

I'm heading off to Copenhagen shortly for a 'Julefrukost' (Danish Christmas lunch) with the team at Skandinavisk (don't forget the exlusive 20% off with code 'jul20', it's a perfect place to pick up a wonderful-smelling gift!). See more from my home here

Wishing you all a relaxing mid-week!

Inside An Idyllic Norwegian Island Getaway

Hej hej! Happy Friday! In case you’re wondering about the current mood in Scandinavia – it’s very much a case of “gone fishing” or, more accurately, “gone to the summer cottage, back in three weeks.” It’s July, and no one works in July unless they absolutely have to. After all, we’ve endured a long, cold, dark winter – this is the moment we’ve been waiting for!

One of Scandinavia’s best-kept secrets is the incredible array of islands that come alive at this time of year. There’s something for everyone – tiny skerries, uninhabited nature reserves with hiking trails and camping spots, and charming islands dotted with clapboard summer cottages, old fishing villages, and small harbours where life gathers in the evening. The days follow a simple rhythm: eat, swim, nap, repeat.

This delightful summer cottage is situated in Hvaler, a municipality made up of islands in the southern part of Østfold County, Norway, and perfectly captures the essence of the Scandinavian summer idyll. Its relaxed coastal interior, with blue and white accents, reflects the hues of the Skagerrak Sea, glimpsed through the windows. A sailboat here, a cluster of ornamental glass fishing buoys there – it’s all part of the charm.

Though modest, the cottage offers an effortless comfort: a relaxed sofa, soft blankets, sheepskins and cushions invite you to kick back and unwind. But if the sun’s shining, you’ll probably be tempted to join the alfresco gathering, where fresh prawns await – or slip away to the water’s edge for a quiet moment alone, soaking up the scenery and recharging for the season ahead.

Enjoy the tour!

Charming in every way!

It’s been captured so beautifully that I feel as though I’m right there – soaking up the sunshine on the warm rocks with a book in hand.

Do you feel it too?

Does it sound like your kind of summer? Is there anything that stood out to you? If so, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

If you’d like to see more snapshots, hop over to @hvalerlivet on Instagram – it’s a true feast for the eyes!

Would you like to explore more Norwegian summer houses today? If so, take a peek at:

By the way, if you're curious about the scent of these islands - Skandinavisk have managed to bottle it up in the beautiful ØY collection and this July you can get 20% off all their fragrances (including candles, washes, lotions etc) with code ISLAND20. Just saying!

Have a wonderful weekend – and thank you for stopping by!
