Bright and Beautiful Scandinavian Apartment

Hi, hope you're having a wonderful Monday so far! It’s Ana here again. Niki is enjoying some well-deserved holidays in beautiful Spain for the next couple of weeks–so you will see me pop in once in a while to share some content I’m sure you’ll love...

Like this gem of an apartment, located in (you guessed it!) Stockholm. This 57sqm wonder is a display of light and well-thought-out design. From top to bottom, from room to room, this home is clearly a project of love. Don't you think? I'm particularly drawn to the openness of this home, the pops of green from the plants, the clever use of space, rustic floors and intricate pieces of art on the walls-specially that gallery above the sofa.

The tall ceilings and characteristic white-crisp walls, make this my dream Scandinavian experience. I can almost picture myself, on that stunning balcony, enjoying a bright Summer evening. *sigh*

I can’t wait to read what you think about this home... BUT before I let you go, don’t forget to vote for Niki and My Scandinavian Home in the Domino design blog awards (voting closes October 31st and you can vote once a day). Thank you!

A cosy modern bohemian home

Tjoohoo! It's a hive of activity at home today as we're getting ready for a little summer break - eeeeee! I find it hard to feel super excited until I'm actually on route these days (there's so much to do!). Do you find that?!  I'll be taking a couple of weeks blogging break (shock horror! - that sounds like ages and I'm going to miss you guys, but I've been working like crazy with photo shoots and finishing my third book (exciting!) so I'm in need of a little R&R, plus I think my family have forgotten who I am!). But before I head off, I thought I'd leave with you the most inspiring home - with LOTS of ideas around every corner! This lovely space belongs to Megan Schlachtenhaufen, purveyor of fab, custom made wall hangings (hop on over to Instagram to check them out). Megan shares her home in Wisconsen, with her husband and two daughters and has furnished it with an eclectic mix of furniture, layers of texture, lovely art and punches of colour resulting in a relaxed modern bohemian style. Let's take a peek....

Photography: 13 and 14 by Clettis Wright. The rest by Megan Schlachtenhaufen.

Oh how I love this home. It makes me want to go out and hunt for paintings for my wall, rummage around flea markets for secondhand finds, invest in some kilim cushions and Moroccan blankets and generally max out on cosiness  - how about you?!

Get the look from Megan's home: bertoia side chair, source beautiful kilim cushions here, pick up a blanket with pom poms / tassels here, leather pouf / ottoman, mantis ceiling light, this is a great shop for rugs. Baskets, Atollo gold table lamp. Pick up custom-made wall hangings by Megan here. The large wall hanging in the living room is by The Dharma Door.

You can also see more pictures of this home and an interview with Megan over at The Glitter Guide

If you need a little escape on your morning coffee break, here are some of my all time favourite archives for you to check-out while I'm away (although you might need to set-aside an entire morning or two!):

A round-up of Swedish homes
Inspiring Danish homes
My pick of Norwegian homes
Who doesn't love a Finnish home?!
Relaxed and laidback summer cottages
International Home tours
Beautiful, relaxed bohemian style homes.

Or if you'd like to go offline - there's always my book The Scandinavian Home: Interiors inspired by light too! Best enjoyed with a coffee....or espresso martini (depending on the time of day!). I hope you enjoy it!

Have a lovely couple of weeks!

PS Catch you on Instagram in the meantime...

My friend Louise's home in a converted school

Earlier this week I went to visit my Danish friend Louise who lives in the most fantastic house in the village of Remmarlövs in the heart of the Skåne countryside. Louise is a life coach, a lecturer on job satisfaction, flirting and communication and holds workshops in her home which she shares with her husband Johan, children Iris and Walter, ten chickens and two cats. The property was built in 1830 and started life as the village school and housed the village sauna in the basement.  It was converted to a private resident forty years ago. Today high ceilings and large windows flood the rooms with light and in the winter a large fireplace and classic Swedish masonry oven help to keep the house warm.  'Our main focus has been to create a welcoming home, where old and young alike can relax and have fun' Louise tells me.  The space is filled with vintage, antique and Scandinavian designer piece as well art and quirky touches collected over time. Look closely and you'll see a little mouse on a picture frame or a miniature tea set. I couldn't resist taking my camera along to take a few snapshots with you!

Isn't it such a wonderful home? That cat seems to love it too - although he looks a bit tired of me taking his photo?!

Recently, the family decided to head off in search of new adventures on the other side of the Öresund (i.e. Denmark) and the house is now on the market. I asked her what she'd miss most about their home: 'Oh, lots! The beauty, the light, the big rooms, the old apple trees, the churchyard, the view, the atmosphere...I totally love this house and realise I will never live like this again. I have enjoyed every single day here.'

Get the look from Johan and Louise's lovely house: paintings by Karen Broos (you can see the Swedish artist's own home here, also a converted school!), Haruko Maeda and Sarah Becker

Thank you for inviting me over Louise, what a great day!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

PS I've just arrived in Milan - very excited. Tips welcome!

PPS I've been busy updating my office for spring this week, so happy with my shiny new workspace.

An inspiring French home with bold colour and patterns

Well hello there Friday! I can't tell you how happy I am to see you! It's been one crazy week over here - how's yours been?! The good news is, the weekend's just around the corner AND I've got an incredible home tour to share with you. Sabrina and Quentin drew on the help of  the talented team at Royal Roulotte to turn their Parisien apartment into a 'warm, happy home that promotes exchange family life and simplicity.... and neat with a little madness.' The result is a home full of beautiful rich colours, bold patterns and yet plenty of room to breath. What better way to celebrate the weekend?!

Credits: Interior design / architecture & photography by Royal Roulotte. Found via French by Design with thanks.

What an incredible space?! The rich colours, the patterns, the way it combines clean and contemporary with a relaxed and lived-in feel. Magnifique!

A guide to a few of the lovely items in Sabrina and Quentin's home: sitting room - copper pendant light by Tom Dixon, floral wallpaper, kitchen - Signal wall lights, Nespresso coffee machine. dining area - tulip chair, DSW chairs. children's room - source a mid-century credenza here.

I'm such a big fan of Royal Roulotte's work - you may also recognise the name from this fabulous home and this kitchen project.

And that's it for me for the week, all that's left to do is wish you a wonderful weekend! I hope it's full of love, laughter and the all important 'hygge' feel!

See you Monday!
