Free-Spirited Family Home on A Swedish Island

It's Friday afternoon friends - yaaaay! Any plans? Before I head off I wanted to share one final home tour to finish the week! I'm often being asked to recommend places in Sweden and one of my favourite tips (aside from my adoptive home town of Malmö, of course!) is the Gothenburg archipelagos. I recently discovered one talented creative who's lucky enough to live there all year round!  Catarina is a freelance photographer and stylist living on a car-free island with her husband and two daughters. Catarina is part of the relatively new Northern Sisters Collective - a delightful community of eight Swedish bloggers who share a free-spirited, slow, sustainable approach to interiors (it's so worth checking out all the blogs in the community - you could get lost there for a good few hours!). The relaxed family home is awash with earthy greens and blues, second hand finds and seasonal blooms. Enjoy the tour!

What a perfect home tour to complete the week - don't you think?!

If you'd like to see more of her home (I can't blame you!) check-out Catarina's lovely blog and instagram feed.

I think I've also actually featured most of the homes of the Northern Sisters Collective at some point in the passed including Mari Strenghielm's stunning island home, Elin Lannsjö's idyllic cottage and Tuva Minna Linn's vintage inspired house. So inspiring!

If you're thinking of visiting Sweden this summer - my guide of places to stay might just be helpful (it includes a couple of places on the West Coast too!

Have a fabulous weekend!

Vi ses på måndag!

An incredible loft, filled with plants!

Hands up who loves a house plant? This home tour is for you! Seriously, I've never seen so much beautiful greenery in one place, it takes the term 'urban jungle' to a new level  - and the results are lush! Formerly a cotton mill from the 1870s, the plant-filled loft is located in the centre of Baltimore and belongs to green-fingered Hilton Carter and his girlfriend Fiona Vismans who met as neighbours three years ago (when she knocked on his door to ask him to turn his music down! Love that!). Hilton estimates he owns around 120 plants which wind their way around a blend of high street, thrift store and flea market finds and thrive on the light from the incredible windows. "I really like having plants as a part of my interior styling. You need that sort of life to open up the space, to clean the air, and to make it feel like home," Hilton explained to Baltimore Magazine. Prepare to be inspired...

Quite incredible, don't you think?

Who needs a greenhouse?!

If you'd like to see more beautiful homes with plants check out; Jeska and Dean Hearne's lovely home, plants and mid-century finds in a Brooklyn brownstone, the Melbourne home of a florist.

And I love this book: Urban Jungle: Living and Styling with Plants.

Oh and in case you're not very green-fingered - I included a guide to house plants that are almost impossible to kill in my Lagom book - tried and tested by yours truly!
I'd highly recommend following Hilton Carter's instagram feed for a load more inspiration too!
Vi ses!

A Dutch home gets a green make-over

Do you have any New Year interior resolutions? It could be as simple as de-cluttering or as crazy as shelling out your entire house and starting again from the ground up (like my sister!). Personally, I'm keeping it simple, and have a goal to add a little more colour to my home (baby steps friends, baby steps!). Which is why this lovely space caught my eye. If you follow Holland-based Marian on Instagram you'll know several things about her space a) it's in a constant state of change b) she loves plants and flowers and c) she's a big fan of green! And it's the latter that caught my eye - looking back through her feed there has always been a hint of green in her home but recently Marian took things to a whole new level of greenness with half-painted walls. Here's the before and after...

Before - white walls:

Print from Muurmeeters, Line cushion by Normann Copenhagen.

This vintage French school chair is similar (check the height first!). The wall hanging is from Knotting on the Wall.

Source a vintage rattan chair here. I also love this rattan stool (perfect as a plant stand!). The Muuto wood lamp can be seen on top of the dresser.

The Artek pendant lamp is similar, round mirror, vintage school chair, black and white Twiggy print

After: green walls

Print from Muurmeesters and Line cushion by Normann Copenhagen (as before).

Source a beautiful mid-century teak chest-of-drawers here and green demi-john here.

Such a lovely update, don't you think? I really like the tone (I'm on the case with the shade and will come back as soon as possible!).

Could you imagine painting one of your walls half green (or another colour)? If so, keep an eye out for my guide on how to achieve a half painted wall later today!

Have a great start to the week!

The former Swedish apartment of Jasmina Bylund

Just before Christmas I shared Swedish interior designer, photographer, storyteller and founder of Wiho Design, Jasmina Bylund's beautiful house. Jasmina and her 'sambo' (live in partner) and their three children - Winston (3.5) and Belle (6 months) moved last summer  - leaving behind this beautiful apartment. I couldn't resist sharing a few pictures of their lovely former home with you today! I'm sure you'll understand why!

Oh so nice! Loving all the sheer textiles and shades of grey and green (this apartment follows a similar scheme, in a slightly more broody way!).

How about you?

Lovely greens and blues in a Swedish space

Well, hello there! I hope you had a great weekend? I'm writing from a sunny Hudson Valley this morning - it'll be my home for a few days since I'm collaborating on a super exciting project (more to be revealed soon, although I might not be able to resist sharing a few sneak peeks on Instagram.... (just don't tell anyone!). Even though I'm miles from home I'm still drooling over this elegant home currently for sale in Gothenburg, on Sweden's west coast. There's something about the green and blue tones and textures (how much do you want to run your finger along that kitchen worktop?!) that makes me feel like hanging out there all week (once I'm back of course!). How about you?

Home-owner / interior stylist: Caroline Ulkner. Photography: Anders Bergstedt. For sale through Entrance

Oj oj oj (as they say in Sweden!), what a fabulous apartment, don't you think?!

There are so many pieces I know and love in this apartment, in order of appearance: Blur print by  Esther de Groot, Vertigo pendant light, Menu wall-mounted candleholder, Remodelista book,
In Detail: Inspiring ideas for creative interiors by Hans Blomqvist, Z1 pendant light (also seen in my sitting room), Hektar Clamp Lamp.

Is there anything that you love about this home?

Right, better get on with the project here in Upstate New York! I hope you've got some great plans for the week too!

See you tomorrow!

PS Does anyone know the stylist behind this beautiful apartment? if so please let me know in the comment section below and I'll update the post.
