The calm Danish home of Emilie Schwartzlose

Hej hej! I'm just packing for my flight back to Sweden after a brilliant few days in London (I do love being back home in the big smoke!). I fly via Copenhagen and I'm soooo tempted to go for a wander (must organise a day in Denmark's capital ASAP!). The Danes have such a great sense of style. This home of Emilie Schwartzlose in Frederikshavn, North Jutlund, is fairly small in size (52 square metres / square feet) but what it lacks in square metres it certainly makes up for in aesthetics. The space is characterised by soft, earthy green hues, natural textures and as Danish magazine, Bolig describes it a 'poetic' appeal. Oh and it's also enjoyed by her furry friend, Charlie. Here are a few snaps from Emilie's lovely home...

What a lovely space - looking at the pictures it's hard to imagine it's only 52 square metres - don't you think?

You can see more of it over on Emilie's lovely instagram feed.

Here's a quick round-up of items I know and love: sitting room - Eames chair, Kubus candleholder, Saro rug. In cabinet - Royal copenhagen. Bedroom - white linen duvet cover, bentwood chair (pick up a vintage one here). Outdoors - string lights.

There are lots and lots of beautiful Danish homes to drool over in this archive - (as always, if this pops up first, just scroll passed).

Have a great start to the week lovely friends!

The relaxed Danish home of Line Stützer

Oh have I got a lovely home to share with you today! This beautiful, relaxed Danish home belongs to Line Stützer, a service designer at Hello Group, husband Henrik and their adorable dog Betty. Line has decorated their Copenhagen apartment with a blend of art deco, new nordic, and vintage finds resulting in a style she describes as 'classic yet modern, a balance between masculine and feminine, and playful.' Let's take a peek...

Such a wonderful space - loving all the colours and unique touches, how about you?!

Get the look: Noguchi table,  Söderhamn sofa (try Bemz for a yellow cover like this), pick up a teak side cupboard here, source retro dining chairs here (there are some absolutely beautiful ones!). Macrame hanging planter.

Don't miss Line's instagram feed here! And the Danish home archive is a must (love that Danes often have a boho touch to their living spaces).

Have a 'dejlig' day!

PS I mentioned another instagram feed I love the other day which documents the renovation of a 1910 Water Tower in Stockholm - but now realise the link wasn't working (doh!) - here it is again: @thewatertowerproject. Are there any instagram feeds you can recommend?

PPS US friends - the US version of my book Lagom, Not too little, not too much: The Swedish Art of Living a Balanced, Happy Life launches on 3rd October (so soon!) and Goodreads are offering the chance to win a copy here!

A Danish home full of vintage finds

Hej hej! How are you today? It's my penultimate day here in Hesinki and I have to say I'm going to be sad to leave - I love the Finnish capital! have you been here? Last night we went out for the most amazing meal at restaurant Grön (a must if you're ever in town) and today I'm taking part in a panel discussion at Habitare (eeeeee! wish me luck!). But before then, I thought I'd pop in and share this beautiful Danish home with you. This three-storey townhouse in Fredericia, Jutland belongs to Anne Romedahl, her husband, two daughters and son. Anne is a teacher with a passion for interior decorating and flea markets. As a result, her home is a made up of a beautiful, 'personal mix of second hand finds, retro, Danish design and many DIY items'. Keep an eye out for the subtle paint colours too (loving the two tone wall in the hall and stairwell!). Enjoy!

Oh how I love this home! It's such a fascinating blend of pieces and has a wonderful Danish feel about it. It's really homely too.

Could you imagine living here?

Get the look: dining room - could these be the saucer pendants? The lovely pale blue cups and saucers look like Bröste Copenhagen, pick up a mid-century credenza / side-table here, these little rugs are super cute - I'm not sure if they ship worldwide but worth a shot?! Sitting room - Palms wall hangingBedroom: illustrations by Diana Lovring.

Find out more about Anne's latest projects and DIY ideas over on her blog and instagram
(if you're wondering about some of the items in the pictures you might also find them tagged in instagram).

Check out more Danish homes here.

While I was in the archives I also came across the beautiful home of Emma Von Brömsson - Aaah, soooo lovely!

Have a great day!

A fresh kitchen make-over

Why hello there! Sometimes the interior design world can feel so small. Earlier, I was having my usual rummage around Pinterest (as you do!) and stumbled across this fresh kitchen in mint green on Decor8.  The kitchen is the result of a very cool hack by Danish firm Reform who specialise in jazzing up IKEA kitchens with architect-design fronts and counter tops (the result is pretty fab don't you think?). And here's the 'small world' - the lovely apartment (which belongs to Tikkie Adelie) has been captured by Karen Maj Kornum - who's beautiful Copenhagen pad appears on the front cover of my book! I recognise a couple of her signature pieces - such as the eucalyptus which has been dyed using beetroot and the vintage Moroccan rugs sold through her store Another Ballroom.

Oh so fabulous.  Such a breath of fresh air!

Could you imagine having a kitchen in this colour?

Get the look: Kitchen: basis 01 design (fronts in colour S2005-G20Y with countertop / handles in natural oak) from ReformThonet chair, source colourful boucherouite rugs like the one in this home here, Beni Ourain rug, AJ lamp, sheepskin throw.

Karen Maj's home in the heart of Copenhagen is one of the most popular home tours I've shown on My Scandinavian Home - you can take a peek here and here - and I also had the pleasure of spending the day there to capture it for The Scandinavian Home! That girl's got style!

Have a lovely day!

PS Feeling a little sorry for myself as I've just spent the morning at A&E - turns out I've torn a muscle in my calf :( - have you ever done that? It's pretty painful! I'm back home all settled in by the window and lovely Farmor (my mother-in-law) has come down to help out - and just brought me a cup of tea, aaaaaa, things aren't so bad after all!

A fab Danish home with a Moroccan twist

Godmorgon! It's Friday! Woop! I'm always super slow on Fridays, how about you?! I think I'm a secret 'four day weeker' except my mind hasn't told my body yet so I'm still at my laptop. Either that or I'm dreaming about the prospect of chilling out here over the next couple of days (can't wait!). But thankfully things feel super easy today since this little beauty of a Danish home dropped into my mailbox last night. Do you remember Julie Wittrup Pladsbjerg and her lovely flat in the Danish city of Aalborg (lest we forget that purple bike!)? Julie (who works for a Moroccan interior store), her boyfriend Mads and daughter Vanilla recently moved from the 5th floor to the ground floor in the same apartment block. Their new home has been furnished with a wonderful blend of designer items, vintage finds and Moroccan wares, or as Julie puts it: 'green, Scandinavian with a twist of Moroccan in my own, cosy, warm and colourful style'. Let's take a tour...

Home-owner: Julie Wittrup Pladsbjerg. Photographer: Benjamin Lassen

What a fab home - the apartment itself has beautiful bones and I love Julie's mix and match style.
How about you?

Get the look: dining area - Tom Dixon copper round pendant, Panton chair, Tripp Trapp children's chair, source a lovely boucherouite rug here and kilim cushions here, these string lights are similar. sitting room - source fashion prints and posters here, string pocket shelves.

In case you missed it, you can take a peek at Julie's previous apartment here and here and keep up to date with her latest home projects here.

If you fancy dipping into a whole host of other beautiful Danish spaces today, you could always check out the Danish home archive (oh yes!). My top tips - don't miss the dreamy home of a best selling author, an inviting space with vintage touches, and an eclectic apartment with attitude. Oh I do love Danish style!

Have a wonderful weekend!

PS I'll be dropping in tomorrow with a little pure linen inspiration.

PPS Or if it's drink trolleys (bar carts) you're after, you might want to hop on over to The Washington Post where I contributed to a splurge or save feature! So fun! Hope you like my selection.

The dreamy home of a Danish writer

Goddag! I often think about people who 'split their time' between two places - more often than not both are fabulous and evoke serious life envy (in me at least). One such person is the Danish best-selling author Annika Von Holdt. If you follow her on Instagram you'll know that she spends her Winters on Harbour island in the Bahamas (can you imagine?!), has a beautiful apartment in Copenhagen, lives with her son and the cheekiest cat and is very, very funny. I thought it was about time we revisited her lovely home - where the essence of owning a few carefully selected pieces and keeping to a soothing colour scheme allows light and space to dictate the feeling.

Photography: Annika Von Holdt, shared with kind permission. Thanks to Vosges Paris for inspiring this post!

So dreamy, don't you think? The muted colours, the light wood floors, the large windows and high ceilings - the de-cluttered neature of the space. Everything?!

Plus there are at least ten pieces that I'd absolutely love in my own home including: the Gervasoni Ghost sofaPlatner coffee table, Bertoia diamond chairs, Flos floor lamp, Gatto table lamp (a new favourite), Panton chair, Mad et Len scented candles (I've had my eye on these for a while!), Z1 pendant (cheating a bit with this one as I already have it in my bedroom!), pure linen bedding, and a white sheepskin throw.

Think I might just nip out and buy a lottery ticket.... back shortly!

Is there anything you'd like to recreate in your home?

See more pics of Annika's lovely Danish home here.

Have a lovely day!

PS If you could - where would you split your time between? I'm thinking Sweden, London, The Alps, Kerala and the Bahamas. Actually, would I be allowed to swap in new places each year?
