Fun fact: in Sweden, part of your driving licence involves something called the “moose test” — basically proving you can handle a car in bad conditions, either on ice in winter or oil in summer (I think it involves slaloming around bollards without panicking). London doesn’t have anything like that, so Per understandably gets nervous when I’m out driving in snow and wind.
That said… an evening at home with a glass of red, and my newly arrived copy of Vogue Scandinavia doesn’t sound too tragic. Anyway — I digress. You’re not here for my winter ramblings. You’re here for the home tour. And luckily, I have a lovely one, just for you!
This cosy little home for two in Suffolk, England feels like the ultimate escape. Tucked away on a quiet family estate, The Old Tack Room is compact, calm, and very cosy. The interior was created in collaboration with Design & That, and features soothing tones, beautiful textures, and an easy, open-plan layout made for slow mornings and long evenings. by the fire.
And then there’s the estate itself. A stay might include yoga classes… or private dining… or beauty treatments… or horse riding… or watersports. Or — and let’s be honest, my favourite option — tiramisu and a glass of red by the fire (and maybe a cuddle with a llama!). Which would you choose?
Either way, it's the perfect escape for the weekend!

Hello Niki, what a lovely escape for the weekend...I love colour on our walls, and all walls in our home have a different colour: light green in the living room and dining area, rosé in the hallway, beige for sleeping, petrol in the bathroom, etc. I like how the colours calm my eyes and how the lighten up my spirit....and Mondays or Tuesdays, I don't care, I am thankful for your posts either way. Haven a nice, cosy weekend in Malmö, greetings from Bremen, Steffi
ReplyDeleteThank you Steffi, your lovely comment made me feel so relaxed knowing it's OK not to have to stress over the posting day.
DeleteI am so happy you loved this escape too.
Ahh. I feel relaxed just looking at this. I have always veered towards slightly warm wall colors. Our living room is a very, very soft shade of yellow--many people don't realize there is a yellow tint to it, as it reads white in the daylight. It's a north-facing room and Michigan winters are typically lacking in sunshine, so I wanted something that would subtly warm and lighten the space. My daughter's room is the same color, and we've used a white shade in the rest of the house which is right on the border of grey/beige.
ReplyDeleteEnough about that! This little cottage is perfect for two. The transistor radio brings back memories of my growing-up years. I think I'd spend my spare time hanging out with the llamas!
I love the idea of using a very light yellow tint. My mother-in-law has a subtle shade of yellow in her summer cottage living room and it always feels lovely and warm. It's an especially clever idea for a North-facing room.
DeleteThis is super cosy, friendly lamas and two desserts!
ReplyDeleteThe llamas are great!! So fun! Maybe they wander into the cottage from time to time - so fun if so - although, you wouldn't want them eating your dessert!
DeleteI love white--so many shades. We even use antique white--a vanilla undertone. I find it restful & cannot abide rooms painted in bright colors on different walls. I need white & feel peaceful under its' spell. Outside I am into green (esp. silver green)---nature's medicine. I especially like white in combination with a pop of red, green or cognac.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you. It's essential for me to feel calm at home and I feel subtle shades of white and neutrals really help. It sounds like you have the perfect recipe at home with the pops of red, green and cognac against the different shades of white.
DeleteI am a white walls kinda gal. Some version of white in every room. That said, I sure do love everything about that bathroom. Those tiles!
ReplyDeleteWe have a lot of off-white in our home, and I find it so calming and easy to live with. It's timeless.
DeleteEnjoy your 'digressions'☺ Any day is just fine.
ReplyDeleteDesign & That do well with neutrals, a bit strict for me but exquisite.
The Old Tack is more Nordic. Love the wood paneling, wooden countertops and simple wooden furniture. Even a little cast iron (shelf brackets) seem to lend character to the kitchen. The private backyard caught my eye. Nothing like having a cup of coffee in the morning, some fresh air and being outdoors without being noticed.
Bamboo frame for the bath mirror, clay pot tooth brush holder in the sink...aha...that gave me an idea☺ Thoughtful to place a mirror near the sky window. Tiles in the bathroom are beautiful.
Would spend time with the animals- sheep, llamas and horses.
To me, the home would reflect the inner self at that time. Seasons and scenarios bring out different moods and décor. However, the staples are white or light or neutral colored walls, wooden floors, and greenery. We get very little daylight a few months. Happy weekend☺
Thank you for sharing all these lovely details. It sounds like we share the same sentiment when it comes to white or light / neutral coloured walls - it really helps brighten up the winter months here in Sweden!
DeleteMy favorite wall color is Divine White by Sherwin Williams. It's warm and elegant, very Beacon Hill in my opinion! Love this post.
ReplyDeleteI must check the shade out, thank you so much for sharing this tip!
DeleteSublime colors. Love this.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy you enjoyed this tour too.
DeleteBeautiful. I love the soft color palette.
ReplyDeleteAgree, the soft palette is lovely!
DeleteLove the colors!
ReplyDeleteAgree, they are cleverly done :)
DeleteI am not really into golden tones, browns or ochre, but there were still things about this home that I loved....it appeared to be very warm and cozy. My home is painted in a pale linen color, off white everywhere and the farmhouse is Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore everywhere. I may get brave and do a little wallpaper over there eventually. The home I grew up in was kind of a hodge podge of different wall colors and old unattractive wallpaper. I think that is why I gravitate towards a nice clean wall so that furniture and artwork can take center stage. I thought the tile work behind the bathroom sink in the Suffolk home was very interesting- maybe my favorite feature in this home. And of course I adored the little llamas!! I think adult llamas like to spit when disturbed as do their relatives the camels. Maybe the baby ones don't do that?? They look so sweet but perhaps in real life are not as sweet as they look unless you are well aquainted!!!! I enjoyed visiting this home even if not my favorite. I always find things that I like and enjoy seeing how objects are arranged on walls, shelves, etc. I love your posts and appreciate your sending them out into the world! I read a book to my granddaughter this week entitled "Share Some Kindness, Bring Some Light" and that is what you are doing. We need more of that in the world today. Thank you! : > )
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like we share the same sentiment when it comes to wall colours. I love the sounds of a pale linen colour.
DeleteI actually didn't know that llamas spit? How could they when they look so cute? Maybe best enjoyed from afar!!
What a lovely message 'share some kindness, bring some light' - so important in the world right now. Thank you so much for associating this with My Scandinavian Home, it really means a lot.
A lovely get away. I love the colors too, although I would want a bit of art on the walls. The tiles are beautiful. I could relax here, especially with the llamas amd wine by the fire. We painted our house, all open except for the bedrooms, a white what looks almost pale, pale blue. Have a great weekend Niki. I so look forward to your blog every week.
ReplyDeleteI was also thinking that they needed to incorporate some art!
DeleteYes, some art would really bring a lot to this cottage, I agree,
DeletePS thank you for your kind words about my blog, it really is a pleasure to write - and be a part of this community.
DeleteLovely! Sometimes too much white comes across as sterile. That’s why I use it for places that I want to appear very clean. Bathrooms, ceilings and trim. For walls, I want warmth but airiness, so colours that breathe. Natural linen is a faithful, old, friend that I’ve used over and over again in many different homes. This rental seems to just like that. So it’s a place I would feel at home. The tongue and groove panelling adds to the feel. I can imagine feeling the comfort and I would want to stay for a long time.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this - it's been so interesting to hear about everyone's colour preference. It's fascinating how personal - and important, wall colours are in a home.
