Today I wanted to share a little of the Scandinavian festive spirit with you through some beautiful, cosy, Christmas-ready images I’ve been squirrelling away on Instagram. This year I’ve noticed red creeping back in, alongside plenty of nostalgia — think vintage finds and ornaments collected over time or passed down through generations. I hope you enjoy the inspiration and the journey to Scandinavia in wintertime.
I felt all the other images also perfectly capture this time of year. I love the Norwegian sauna in the fjords at the end. On the 23rd of December, a sauna is booked for the entire extended family so we can dust off the cobwebs, shake off work, and prepare for the holidays feeling relaxed, revived and rosey cheeked (and that's before the 'glögg'!

Such lovely, warm (in the midst of the cold!) images conveying what this season should be about. A welcome escape from the unholy din of all the commercial chants that are assaulting us now - "Buy this, buy that, give us your money!" Tack så mycket, Niki, for this peaceful virtual respite.

ReplyDeleteWe decorated our tree over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, which is a conglomeration of ornaments gathered over the years. I have given our kids an ornament each year, for them to take when they have a place of their own. My son took his this year .... and our tree is STILL overloaded with ornaments.
I enjoyed all the pictures, but besides the cat photo, I especially liked the one of the town in the snow with all the lights, as well as those gorgeous lit-up stars dangling from the window. Your pictures show something that I told my daughter--if you use red while decorating in December, it reads as Christmas decoration. The red and white checked towel definitely does that, and also, the red bows on the candles.
Thanks for this lineup! We got a significant amount of snow (with more on the way), so I'm feeling very Christmassy right now. :)
There is nothing here that I don't love: the cat in the window (wish he lived at my house!), the sweet tree in the ceramic jug and all the lights and stars in the windows! Simple and beautiful. We had a big snow storm over the weekend so should have a white Christmas. I start decorating for winter on Thanksgiving Day when the grandchildren decorate my skinny "mouse tree"....all mouse decorations with one exception, a cat in snowman disguise. I am afraid of and disgusted by real mice. As a joke my father gave me a few mouse ornaments that he spotted while he and my mom were Christmas shopping decades ago....that started my theme tree. I have started decorating the house with garlands and lights in the windows....Belsnickles and bells......lanterns, small trees and birdhouses on the mantle. The tree will go up soon. DeleteMy big tree is full of ornaments from decades of marriage- fifty years this year. As I put each ornament on, I like to remember who gave it to us or when it was purchased.....it is a tree full of memories. I also have a small kitchen tree full of old metal measuring cups and other kitchen items from grandparents and parents as well as old metal children's toy kitchen items from my youth. : > )
