In my last post I mentioned that I was going to start sharing a few Christmas posts this week – but bear with me, because first I have the charming home of a carpenter (or at least, studying to be a carpenter) in north-west Skåne to show you – no doubt not far from our own summer cottage!
This traditional red-and-white Swedish country home belongs to Henrik and his family, who have been renovating it over time, transforming it into a lovely space where home-grown onions and garlic hang in the kitchen, a fire crackles in the living room and cats roam freely. Keep an eye out for classic Swedish colours – green, blue, ochre and burgundy – as well as the pretty wallpaper that adorns the bedroom walls.
Välkommen in (as they say in Swedish).
So cosy! I love the wood cladding – it adds so much character. I’m also a fan of how the window frames and skirting boards have been painted in different colours (or darker shades) – it’s something we’re seeing a lot of at the moment, and it works particularly well in older homes.

This is such an enchanting home with lovely details. The carpenter has done an exemplary job of using materials that are just right and add to the character in subtle but profound ways. I love the details in the decor as well.....right down to the picture on the ledge above the table....it looks like a girl walking through an orchard and reminds me of Elsa Beskow illustrations. The wallpaers used in the bedrooms are perfect. I can't really decide which I like best, but maybe as a team blue girl I would have to say the last featured room with the dark wallpaper and striped bedlinens appeals to me most. DeleteSuch a cozy home, the kitchen is my favorite. Just what was required, no more nor less of remodeling. Curious why the fireplaces in the bedrooms were not made use of. Can tell the carpenter's handiwork from the roof in the bedrooms, the floor and the circular wooden table. Love the wall paper, guess they came with the home! Thank you for sharing this treasure!

DeleteI think the red house in the snow is a great subtle nod to the upcoming Christmas season. I think the dark skies make a great backdrop.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't trade my husband for the world, but I do have a tiny bit of envy for anyone whose spouse/partner has these kinds of skills. The woodwork is wonderful--do you think he made some of the furniture, as well? I am very taken with the storage cubbies by the beds. They wouldn't have been empty if my children had lived there! This is everything a home should be--the coziness embraces you. And there's a cat!
How handy would that be? Henrik tells me he has been a chef up until now (working in a lovely restaurant on a vineyard not far from our summer cottage) - so his family are very lucky - a talented chef and carpenter rolled into one! I think his work is beautiful too!
