Inside Kristina's Light & Airy Copenhagen Home with Statement Lighting

There’s nothing quite like a sunny Friday in Sweden—two reasons to celebrate! Just across the bridge in Copenhagen, I can picture the city buzzing with life as locals spill onto the pavements, gathering in restaurants, cafés, and bars to make the most of the warm spring sunshine we’ve been waiting for.

Kristina Yndgaard and her young family live in Frederiksberg, one of my favourite neighbourhoods in the Danish capital. Kristina’s style is effortlessly pared-back, with soothing earthy tones that, combined with a pale wood floor, create a fresh, airy feel. Her ‘less is more’ approach means every piece she’s chosen stands out, not just for its function but for its beautiful form and design.

As you take in her home, keep an eye out for four very cool lights—each making a statement in its own way. From a sculptural overhead lamp to a perfectly placed table lamp, Kristina’s choices prove just how much lighting can elevate a space. And don’t miss the charming little basket hanging from a door handle or the smart sofa tray—ideal for your morning coffee!

Ready to feel inspired?

The incredible Flotation pendant light over the dining table is by Ingo Maurer and the dining table was a flea market find.

I have a real passion for lighting - and one of my favourites is the Snoopy Lamp - seen here. I love that Kristina has chosen the green version which really stands out and makes a statement. The rattan bar table is vintage.

I love this little wooden tray with a curved underside - it works perfectly for wider sofa arms! A green and white striped cushion adds a cool modern twist to the beige sofa and creates balance with the Snoopy lamp.

The Bestlite collection by Gubi is a Danish classic and extremely popular in Denmark. I am a really big fan! And just how cute is the cot (also known as the Boxspring Co-sleeper)?

Kristina is keen on sewing and has a small side business making everything from baby dummy straps and cushion covers to lamp shades and Christmas decorations out of pretty floral fabrics, evidence of which can be seen on the side of the cot. Check out her work here

I also think this Large Mushroom lamp is also very cute - especially in a children's bedroom!

I hope you enjoyed this little tour of Kristina’s light and airy home—it perfectly captures the mood of a sunny Friday in Copenhagen, don’t you think?

Did any details stand out to you? And what about the lamps? I love how they make such a statement! Lighting plays a huge role in setting the atmosphere in a home, and I’ve noticed a lot of chatter on Instagram lately about avoiding overhead lighting at all costs. Personally, I don’t agree.

I take my cues from the Scandinavians—they know how to create a warm, inviting atmosphere while still keeping things practical. From what I’ve learned, the key to great lighting is variety: a mix of low lighting, tabletop lamps, task lighting, and yes, even overhead lighting. That way, you have the right light for every mood and activity.

If you do have an overhead light, the best approach is to install a dimmer switch. That way, you can brighten the space when you need clear visibility and then soften it for those cosy, relaxed moments. Would you agree?

Right, that's it from me–I'm off to enjoy a little sunshine and soak up some very much needed Vitamin D! Tomorrow evening we're heading to the theatre to see the Roxette musical 'Joy Ride' - being a Swedish band, Roxette is extremely popular here, as you can imagine! Have you ever been a fan?

I hope you have some fun plans too!

See you Monday! Kram!

    1. I see from her page that they moved in at the end of 2023 and have been renovating (If I understood right) so I am sure there is plenty more layering to be done. Such beautiful bones to play with, and I love the paint colour they have used as a canvas :)

  3. A very nice flat. And the Ingo Maurer lamp... wow. The other lights also suit my taste. Lighting is very important. I'm not against ceiling lighting as a matter of principle, I'm completely with you on that and also agree with the Scandinavians. It all depends on the height and size of the room as to which ceiling light is suitable. And of course the furnishing style. Kristina's home really breathes and radiates joie de vivre. I really like it, thank you for showing it. I wish you and your loved ones and everyone else here a sunny weekend. Best wishes, Heidi

I obiecuję rozpowszechniać dobrą pracę Lorda Felixa.
