Here in Sweden, it’s 2 pm, and the light is slowly fading on a world blanketed in snow. It will likely thaw again here in the South, but it’s still a sign that winter has arrived. It's time to hunker down and decorate the home with cosy candlelight and even festive touches. In fact, decorating early has become such a popular phenomenon that there’s even a new term for the Christmas tree: the 'November fir!' I like it!
While we won’t be putting our tree up anytime soon, I love starting to get into the spirit and feel inspired by others. This lovely home in snowy Gävle—a city north of Stockholm—has been beautifully renovated by its owners, Anna and Erik Lång. In doing so, they created their dream family home, full of vintage finds, pretty patterns, and charming details. It's a magical place to raise their three children.
So, wrap up warm, get cozy, sit back, and enjoy the Jul-inspired tour.
What a dreamy family home! I love how there's a little one around every corner. It’s been beautifully renovated too, with so many thoughtful details. I really enjoyed admiring the paint colours, the wallpaper, and all the patterned textiles.
Did anything in Erik and Anna's home stand out to you?

When do you usually start decorating your home for Christmas (or the winter season)? I usually wait until after my birthday on December 6th, though I suspect a few small details might sneak in before then!
But it's never too early to start feeling inspired, right? To get us all in the festive mood, why not pour yourself another cup of coffee and delve into these archives:

We're currently on our way up to Stockholm (although a snowstorm isn’t exactly ideal road trip weather) because my daughter Alice, who’s fourteen, has a gymnastics competition. It’s a great excuse to visit the Swedish capital—and I love watching her and her team in action, even if it’s a bit nerve-racking!
I hope you have a lovely weekend too. Stay warm!
Niki
The most wonderful time of the year... Thanks for bringing Christmas magic!
ReplyDeleteI agree, I love Christmas time - it really brightens up the darkness and makes everything so cosy!
DeleteA beautiful home with just enough Christmas. Thank you so much. Gymnastics! Yikes. My thoughts are with you.
ReplyDeleteThank you, it was nerve-racking to watch to say the least!
DeleteHappy you enjoyed this home tour and the Christmas touches!
Love, love, love this. It makes me slightly wistful for the tiny-children stage of life (although I'm completely enjoying the empty nest). The wallpaper and the bedding prints are charming.
ReplyDeleteWe had a rain/snow mix yesterday (yuck--give me real snow any day!) but my niece, who lives maybe 4 miles from me, got a couple of inches of snow on the ground and she and her little guy were able to build a snowman. We live near Lake Michigan (one of the Great Lakes) and the giant body of water has all sorts of interesting effects on our weather. Enjoy your snow! And best wishes to your daughter!
It makes such a difference to children when there's snow to play with outside - my girls used to love sledging and building snowmen. I visited a summer cottage area near lake Michigan when I was a child and I still remembering how big the waves were for a lake - I wasn't expecting it at all! A beautiful part of the world.
DeleteI loved this home!! The wide staircase and hall stood out to me…… so much easier when moving furniture!! I enjoyed the Christmas decor. It is definitely the time for Christmas magic! Simply beautiful home.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't thought of that element, but you are absolutely right! We have a spiral-ish staircase and it's so hairy carrying big objects up and down!
DeleteI love this time of year too, so cosy!
Their home has such a warm, cuddle-up ambiance. Perfect after a romp in the beautiful snowy outdoors! I loved the painted bead board open shelving that appeared to from floor to ceiling and also the wide staircase another fellow reader commented upon. (We spent 20 years in a home with a lovely but narrow “sweeping” style staircase and it was always scary taking furniture up or down the stairs!) And the front door is a thing of beauty.
ReplyDeleteMeant to also say the textiles and artwork all come together beautifully. So much to see and love!
DeleteBeautiful, Beautiful home! Loving all the photos and with the children makes it even more sweet❣️
ReplyDeleteI am so happy you enjoyed this tour - the children are so adorable!
DeleteJust lovely all around ! Love the light wood stairway Thanks for showing this Nikki .hi from Maine no snow here YET!!! Dinie
ReplyDeleteI have always wanted to visit Maine, I have heard it's very beautiful - and as someone who sails, it's a dream of mine to come and explore. Sadly, the snow has melted again here but I'm sure it will be back soon.
DeleteThis is our 4th day without power. Had to sneak in somehow to MSH. Thank you Niki for bringing such cheer in a cold home after a terrible windstorm.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe it! I admire your dedication to MSH :) I hope your power has been restored now.
DeleteI love the exterior colour and fretwork of this house, and well as the interior. The children are gorgeous. Just seeing them preparing for Christmas is motivation for me. Take care - anyone who has to travel in nasty weather.
ReplyDeleteSo true, there's something truly magical about Christmas with small children.
DeleteYes, I hope everyone is staying safe with all these storms everywhere. Calm has been restored in Sweden this week, thankfully!
Ohh, what a beautiful and cosy home:-) Looooove the details!!
ReplyDeleteSo happy you enjoyed this lovely tour too!
