A Calming Pared-back Swedish Country Home

This soothing Swedish country home is like a mid-week breath of fresh air. Located in the county of Småland and dating back to the 19th century,  the house has been carefully renovated by Anna and Kalle - who have a penchant for calming off-white tones and natural materials.

Much of the furniture - such as the kitchen table and coffee table have been picked up second-hand and then given a new lease of life which a sanding machine and other tricks. And I love how the front door has been painted bright yellow - for a sunny start every day of the week!

It's hard to imagine that it was an absolute wreck when they bought it. Let's take a peek at some of the corners that Anna and Kalle have captured of their lovely home:

The gate-leg table was a hand-me-down from Kalle's parents and was meant to be used elsewhere. But the pair felt it was so beautiful that they decided to sand it down and treat it so that they could use it as a family dining table.

The door has been painted in NCS code S3050-Y20R.

Much of the wood floor and panelling you see is from Swedish company Baseco

Lovely!

So calming. Which is exactly what I needed today!

I can appreciate all kinds of interiors, and I find this minimalist, soothing look to be very restorative. Also, it is nice and light which will keep the family in good stead for the long winter ahead.

Is there anything that stood out to you about Anna and Kalle's home?

    1. Thank you, I had a great time in Cologne, although a little too quick. I love all these details you have pointed out. Yellow / ochre is so popular right now - I guess it's the warm feeling it emits, lovely!

  5. Beautiful! very relaxing. I love light colours and a minimalist interior. That's how our house is decorated. Although I really like all the vintage finds and colours in others. I love the indoor lime trees. Sparmannia africana. These have not been for sale in the Netherlands for a while. but they give such a fresh look to any interior. Thank you for your nice blog again!

    1. I understand - I am the same - I can appreciate all kinds of decor, but for me, I like to come home and relax in a really calm environment.

Thank yo for pointing out the indoor lime tree, it's lovely. Does it have a nice scent too? I would really like one of these for my home, maybe I can find one here in Malmö somewhere.

  6. As everyone has said, the kittens are adorable! Their home does seem wonderfully calming in addition to being beautiful. I especially like the table they refinished and the lighting pendant hanging overhead. The sunny color on the doors is a nice counterpoint to the rest of the house. They make a statement but do not overwhelm.

  8. Two cats are all I can manage in my house! :)

"Minimalist" tends to bring up images of a cold, uninviting interior, but this is light-filled, warm, and I want to sit down and enjoy that cup of tea on the table. I love how they have revived their old wooden furniture. I like the brass shell, and I love the countryside where this is located. Lovely!

    1. I agree, I think minimalist sometimes gets a bad rep, but it's all about 'less is more', and getting that balance between pared back and cosy - which I think they have achieved here :)
