A Cosy Swedish Country Home with an Autumn Vibe

Have you got that weekend feeling? Here, Autumn is in the air and hats are on! I feel like I'm ready for pumpkin soup and chanterelle toast tomorrow...! I wanted to find a beautiful Scandinavian home to reflect the cosy höst (autumn / fall) vibe - and this lovely Swedish country home is perfect!

Sarah Macfie (a Swede with Scottish ancestors), her fiancé Archie and three sons Ralph, Hugo and Benjamin live in a white house near Gothenburg, West Sweden. Sarah loves antiques and spends lots of her spare time visiting her local thrift store, going to auctions and searching online for beautiful pieces with which to fill their home.  Couple this with earthy shades of earthy shades and plenty of plants and dried flowers, and the result is a dreamy space where no two pieces are alike.

Don't forget to keep a look out for the moose!

Such a lovely home - and very hard to believe that it's a new build, don't you think?

There are so many things to feel inspired by in these pictures, but I especially love the traditional bed nook, kitchen window seat, the adorable baby picture (those feet / socks!) and of course the moose - isn't he handsome? I've only ever seen one in the wild once, and that's when I was Finland taking pictures for my first book Modern pastoral (now called Relaxed Rustic). They are huge! Have you ever seen one?

Is there anything that caught your eye in Sarah's house?

Also I am holding a great giveaway on my instagram right now to win a beautiful table cloth and napkins from Swedish brand Lovely Linen - well worth entering (open to all!) enter here

Right folks, that's it from me this week. I hope you've enjoyed the home tours (Anna and Martin's floating cottage with sauna, kitchen and sitting room is causing quite a stir!).

Have a fabulous weekend, see you Monday!

  1. The bedside table caught my eye. I had my eye on a similar one on actionnet but lost the bid. Perhaps I should have gone higher? It does look lovely.

    1. It is indeed a great piece. Behind every treasure hunter's search there's a piece that got away - I feel for you! I'm sure you found another lovely piece to beside your bed anyway. /Niki

  3. This is perfection. I love everything about it, especially how they made a new build look like a lovely, well-kept older home. Her decorating style is so homey!

I have seen moose in the wild several times in recent years while on vacation. It's thrilling every time! We were hiking in the mountains in Wyoming this past summer and two moose were laying down and grazing. We watched them for probably 15 or 20 minutes. I think they knew we were there but apparently we weren't threatening. I've never seen one as close to a house as in the featured picture here, though. Wow!

  4. What a lovely and beautiful home 🤗 I love many things in this house. My daughter lives in Sweden since 4 years now. We are just back from a visit and we saw 2 mother moose, one with 1 kalf and the other had 2. Just a little further down the street and 3 days in a row. What a joy ! Every time we are back home I do not only miss my daughter but also the trees, lakes and beautiful houses up there. Belgium looks ugly once you have seen all of this. Have a nice w.e.
