The inspiring dining area of an interior designer

Last month I paid a visit to my friend Genevieve Jorn's apartment in the heart of Malmö and had a great day photographing her sitting room (you may remember the post here). The area combines with a dining space where Gen, husband Kasper and daughter Olivia gather for family meals and sit and create thanks to the wonderful light. Although I have to admit, on the day I completely took over the space with my coffee, camera equipment and general clobber!). I did manage to clear it up just in time to snap these pictures though. As part of the wonderful monthly collaboration with one of my favourite Danish homeware brands - Nordal (I do love my job) Gen acquired the rather fabulous Pharmacy sideboard chest, which has proven to be a perfect place for all her family's bits and pieces. Oh, how we need one of these in our household, how about you?!

Such a lovely space! I love the warmth from the wood and the luscious plants too!

A magnificent family home in Amsterdam

Every now and again I stumble across a simply incredible home that fills me inspiration (and more than a little life envy!). This is one of them. Located near Vondelpark in the centre of Amsterdam, the family home is laid out over 240 square metre (2583 square foot) of loveliness. Think high ceilings, floor to ceiling windows, vast open-plan living spaces and beautiful period features. Naturally, the family has amazing taste too, choosing to furnish the space with a wonderful combination of vintage and second hand finds, contemporary and ethnic pieces and a hint of colour in every corner! Oh and guess what? It could be yours. Yup. This beauty is for sale! Holland anyone?!

Find out more about this house here. Found via Style Files with thanks.

Be still my beating heart....

A fabulous home in the heart of a fabulous city.

Oh how I'd love to live here!

Could you imagine?

Just in case the house doesn't come with everything inside (or you're not quite ready to move overseas) - here's a quick guide on how to get the look in your own home: pick a beautiful kilm rug here, lampe gras wall light, keep an eye out for a vintage plan chest here, pick up an original Jielde zig-zag floor and desk lamp here. This origami mobile is similar. Safari chair.

I do love Dutch style, don't you? I've shown lots and lots of them on My Scandinavian Home over the years - all of which you can see here. Isn't the home in a former children's nursery particularly lovely?!

Have a great day!

PS I'm heading into town on my bike now to meet a friend who I haven't seen for over 15 years - so excited!

The perfect Swedish studio apartment for one!

Hello there! I hope you had a wonderful weekend? The sun was shining here in Sweden so there was a lot of swimming in the sea and messing about on boats, such a happy time! I hope the sun is shining where you are too? I love how in this Swedish studio, the beautiful floor to ceiling arched windows drench the space in sunlight - and there's even a perfect little window nook from which to enjoy it!  The space also offers great inspiration if you're looking to kit out a studio apartment. The single occupant has a cosy spot to sit, sleep, and eat - as well as a little breathing space in a mere 31 square metre (333 square foot) - all the while keeping the room super stylish - så klart!

Styling: By Bon Interior. For sale through Bjurfors

I quite fancy a morning coffee in that spot in the window right now, how about you?!

Get the look: window nook - grey sheepskin, this brass lamp is similar. sitting area: section of the Söderhamn sofa from IKEA, these brass side tables are similar. dining area: bentwood chairs. Bedroom area: source similar stonewashed bedding in lovely muted tones here.

If you're looking to furnish a one room apartment you can always take a slow morning and browse my small spaces archive. It's amazing what you can do with the tiniest of rooms!

Have a lovely, sunny start to the week!

A house that invites the sunshine in!

Having experienced twelve long, dark Swedish winters - it's safe to say I've become slightly obsessed with light. As a result, I've done everything possible to draw every last drop of sunlight into my home (lightened the floors, white washed the walls and knocked down walls) and I've even written a book about it! So imagine how excited I was when I discovered the Melbourne home and studio of architect Andrew Maynard, inspired by a wish to need to wear sunglasses indoors?! Told by his doctor that a lack of light could be partially to blame for his work-related stress, Andrew and his partner decided to create a space which would bathe them in 'sunlight' and drench them in 'vitamin D'. And just to be sure it truly captured that 'bright (bright) sunshiney day' feeling, he added splashes of sunny yellow for good measure!

What a great concept?!

Would you consider doing this in your home? As Andrew readily admits, there are limitations with a design like this - such as letting the sunshine in, in places where there definitely shouldn't sunshine! But the sunny yellow colour and abundance of light ure does put a smile on your face, right?

Look out for the inspiring space-saving ideas and clever solutions too - such as book shelves above doors and shelves built into the stairs - love!

Is there anything that stands out to you?

I just realised it's been absolutely ages since I shared a home with splashes of yellow - I even had to root around to find the archive -if you're in a sunny mood and feel like a little more 'yellow' interior inspiration here it is (if this home comes up first just scroll passed it!).

Oh and before I head off - sorry if I've seen a little rushed this week, I'm in the final stages of a big project and it's been a bit hectic (my family will tell you that's an understatement!) - including a computer crash yesterday (how much do you dread the words - "have you backed-up your hard drive"?!). But do you know what? It's all cool.... and it's friday people, FRIDAY - woohoo! I hope you've got some great things planned?

Have a lovely sunny weekend!
