Small space inspiration: a light-filled home in rural Israel

Last week a note dropped into my mail box with some kind words and a link to these lovely images - which as you can imagine, made my day! The note was from Kineret Uri who lives in rural Israel with her 8 year old son and has recently renovated her 40 metres square (430 square foot) home with the help of architect Inbal Argov. Today, Kineret's love of Scandinavian style shines through from every corner of the home: a home where nature is never far away.

I love the way the architect has created an open-plan living space to help light flow through and giving the illusion of space - but at the same time carved out a series of different living areas - very clever! Perfect inspiration for anyone looking to renovate a small home or simply like more natural light in your home, don't you think?

Is there anything that stands out to you?

I think this is the first home I've featured from Israel *double-checks the International homes archive*. How cool! Thank you so much Kineret for sending me the pictures!

Have a lovely day!

The Helsinki home of a composer

I thought we could all head to Finland today and take a peek at this bright and breezy apartment owned by Finnish music composer and producer Hank Solo, what do you say? Hank recruited Laura Seppänen Design Agency (great choice!) to transform the 72 square metre (775 square foot) space in the hip Kallio district of Helsinki into a spacious, peaceful home where he can enjoy slow mornings and concentrate on his music. The result is a fabulous home with industrial yet luxurious touches and a homely feel. I think it's time to take a tour don't you?!

There's loads to love about Hank's home but most of all the symmetrical nature of the space and the rugs really caught my eye, how about you?!

I'm also envious that he has the district of Kallio on his doorstep - such a GREAT place!

Here's a little guide on where things are from: Living room - Wall shelves and sofa - Bolia, Hay Coffee table, painting - Tanja Meski, concrete table + stool - from Made in Finland. Kitchen - high table by Hay, Frama bar stools. Bedroom - Floor lamp by Flos, black shelf wall light by Frama, rug by VM Carpet, Painting - Tanja Meski, Posters from The Poster Club.

I've featured lots of Laura's fab design work before - all of which can be found in the Finnish home ( definitely worth have a mooch around, it's one of my favourite archives! Enjoy!).

Have a great day!

A fresh kitchen make-over

Why hello there! Sometimes the interior design world can feel so small. Earlier, I was having my usual rummage around Pinterest (as you do!) and stumbled across this fresh kitchen in mint green on Decor8.  The kitchen is the result of a very cool hack by Danish firm Reform who specialise in jazzing up IKEA kitchens with architect-design fronts and counter tops (the result is pretty fab don't you think?). And here's the 'small world' - the lovely apartment (which belongs to Tikkie Adelie) has been captured by Karen Maj Kornum - who's beautiful Copenhagen pad appears on the front cover of my book! I recognise a couple of her signature pieces - such as the eucalyptus which has been dyed using beetroot and the vintage Moroccan rugs sold through her store Another Ballroom.

Oh so fabulous.  Such a breath of fresh air!

Could you imagine having a kitchen in this colour?

Get the look: Kitchen: basis 01 design (fronts in colour S2005-G20Y with countertop / handles in natural oak) from ReformThonet chair, source colourful boucherouite rugs like the one in this home here, Beni Ourain rug, AJ lamp, sheepskin throw.

Karen Maj's home in the heart of Copenhagen is one of the most popular home tours I've shown on My Scandinavian Home - you can take a peek here and here - and I also had the pleasure of spending the day there to capture it for The Scandinavian Home! That girl's got style!

Have a lovely day!

PS Feeling a little sorry for myself as I've just spent the morning at A&E - turns out I've torn a muscle in my calf :( - have you ever done that? It's pretty painful! I'm back home all settled in by the window and lovely Farmor (my mother-in-law) has come down to help out - and just brought me a cup of tea, aaaaaa, things aren't so bad after all!

A striking Stockholm home

Goood morning! I hope you had a great weekend? I have to confess to going back to bed with my coffee after the girls left for school this morning (you have to make the most of working from home occasionally, right?!). It was just what I needed to ever so slowly crank into action! And now I'm wide awake having spotted this home for sale at Alexander White. The turn-of-the-century apartment in the heart of Stockholm's Östermalm district has been beautifully curated by Swedish stylist (and blogger) Anna Leena. I particularly love the selection of furniture (that concrete table?!) and the warm cream, chocolate brown, grey and white palette - as well as the slightest hint of spring!

Oj oj oj, this apartment ticks so many boxes - high ceilings, period features, a lovely wooden floor, the swedish 'kakelugn' (tiled oven) and lovely, large spacious rooms. When can I move in? (if only!)....

Could you imagine living here?!

Get the look: Icha chair by Mass productions, this and this round concrete table are similar. Source an antique bust here

If you recognise any of the pieces (or are wondering about anything) - please leave a note in the comment section below, there's nearly always someone that can help (I really love that!).

Have a lovely day!

PS If you entered the recent give-away to win two fab cushions from Nordal, you'll be excited to hear the winner has now been announced here ('hold your thumbs' as they say in Sweden!).
