A lovely calm white space

It's an all white day today, I can just feel it. This home is so serene with it's white and light grey marble kitchen. I'm a huge fan of the indigo blue and black combination in the sitting room too.  An item I'm seeing more and more of the concrete side-table - they make quite a cool contrast against softer materials such as wood and velvet don't you think? Could you see yourself padding around this lovely apartment today?

Alvhem

I love how the texture of the wood shows through the paint work. It's worth seeing more shots of it here. Is there anything that stands out to you about this space?

For more serene white homes I'm loving this and this one. Or for a home with bright, bold colors which will put a smile on your face - take a peek at this one.

This morning I'm a little…how should I put it…on edge. A TV film crew are arriving at my house any minute for an interview. Eeeek! Wish me luck!

Have a lovely day!

Artfully hidden TV in a lovely Swedish space

Let's face it, TV's get a bad deal when it comes to interior inspiration. They're either removed entirely from the shoot or hidden just out of frame.  Which is probably why I get so many questions about how to display (or hide) all our beloved screens! And today, I might just have the answer. This home for sale through Entrance includes a fab James Bond style hidden TV solution (oh yes!). Could you imagine doing this in your home? It helps that the rest of the apartment is pretty amazing too!

What are your thoughts about TV's in your home?

We chose not to have a TV in our sitting room and instead have one in a 'snug'. This is partly to do with design and partly to do with not wanting the children to turn the TV on as soon as they walk in the door. Having said, they're forever nicking my laptop to watch cooking programs on YouTube! Seriously, my four year old knows more about baking than I do!!

Apart from the incredible bones of the apartment, the other thing that stands out to me is the green spot! So simple, yet so cool, DIY project for the weekend perhaps?

Since I'm from London, I'm always looking out for the latest events, and one of the most exciting is the May Design Series, an interiors exhibition in London between 17 - 19 May. The exhibition brings together new creative talent, local and international exhibitors and industry buyers covering furniture, fabric, lighting, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. A complimentary conference runs throughout the three days too. Oh and did I mention the champagne bar?! You can read more about it here and register as a visitor or exhibitor.

Have a lovely day!

The lovely, relaxed home of a Danish student

I love this relaxed home of communications masters student Julie Wittrup Pladsbjerg which she shares with her boyfriend in Aalborg, Denmark. Julie is a keen writer and interior decorator and recently did an internship at one of my favourite Danish interiors magazines BoligLiv. She loves to mix old with new and has a big thing for plants, which can be seen dotted around the apartment. There are so many details I love about this space - the black and white wall in the bedroom with the low shelf as a side table, the DIY shoe rack in the hall, the open dressing room. Did your home look as cool as this when you were a student (I'd love to say mine did)?!

All photos Julie Wittrup Pladsbjerg

A few items I know and love: Kubus 4 candleholder, string lights, Eames DSW chair, Tom Dixon copper shade pendant, string pocket shelves, Hay clamp light.

Is there anything you love in particular about this space?

Thank you Julie for sending me the wonderful pictures (you can see more pictures of this fab home on Instagram).

If you're a fan of black and white and after a little more inspiration there are tons of beautiful monochrome spaces in my archive here, many of which also have a lovely mid-century touch.

Now, I'd better get back to my 'white floor make-over' - almost there, exciting!

Have a lovely day!

A Swedish city pad in monochrome and copper

On Friday I was dreaming about spending the weekend in this rustic Norwegian cabin, weren't you?! And now, it's back to the city just in time for the start of a new week. This one bedroom monochrome and copper themed space in Gothenburg is a feast for the eyes, there's just so much to look at! I love the variety of light fixtures, the kakelugn (tiled oven) and touch of spring in the hallway.  Thank you 55 Kvadrat, you've brightened up the start of my week.

Is there anything you love in particular about this Swedish space?

I love the white floor. I must have shown over 200 homes on here with white floors and never had one of my own. So I thought it was about time! I'm in the process of painting my top floor (and bedroom) white (you can see the work in progress here). I promise to create a post once it's finished. I must say, it's been such a tiring couple of the days - who needs the gym when you have a floor to sand, wash and paint?! Have you got a white floor in your home?

See more pictures and a plan of this lovely black and white apartment over at Kvadrat55.

More wonderful black and white homes here, here and here.

Have a great day!

The rustic Norwegian cabin hide-away

It's the weekend! Yay! Any great plans? We'll be at home this weekend but what I'd really like to be doing is escaping to this rustic cabin high up on the cliffs of Western Norway.  Imagine taking a walk in the blustery north wind followed by a hot drink next to the roaring fire? That's a part of every day life for Norwegian couple Elin and Rune. As lovers of the great outdoors, the duo are firm believers in the saying 'there's no bad weather, only bad clothing' and wanted to live somewhere they could enjoy Storfjorden and the surrounding mountain range. The cabin developed stage by stage, and although basic, it has everything they need  to observe the changing weather and delight in the uninterrupted views of the nature that surrounds them.

Could you spend your weekend here?!

There's something so romantic about this retreat, don't you think?

I've spoken before about my dreams of walking one of the 'hytte to hytte' trails in Western Norway. I even asked my Mum for hiking boots for Christmas. Yes, really! But seriously, couldn't you walk 20 km just to spend a night in a 'hytte' like this?!

For more rustic log cabin inspiration (it's got to be done right?!) I love this Norwegian cabin by the sea, a Norwegian hide-away, and a pared-back Finnish retreat. Why do I do this to myself?!!

Have a truly fab weekend!

A pared-back Australian beach house with a retro vibe

Spring is in the air...at least in the home tours this week (and outside here in southern sweden, yay!). This pared-back Australian beach house certainly adds to the vibe.  Located in the coastal town of Merrick, Victoria, it's decorated with pretty pops of colour, retro floral prints (my grandparents had curtains just like these in their sitting room, they had fab style), and freshly cut branches from a cherry tree. The owners have completed their holiday home with a mix of vintage, industrial and modern furniture as well as homespun textiles for a relaxed, bohemian feel. An Australian take on the Danish home we saw yesterday? Just lovely! I could wile away a summer here, how about you?!

Anything in particular you love about this holiday home (or everything perhaps?!)?

Items I know and love: Try Etsy for retro floral print curtains, Tivoli radio, Moka coffee maker. Wood wool stool sells crocheted items.

I dream of having an outdoor shower, there's something very cool about them and instantly conjure up days of long summer days at the beach. Here are some of my favourites.

The other thing I noticed are the shelves across the window - what a great idea?!

See more pictures and a full write up of the house here.

Other holiday homes in which I could wile away a boho summer include: this tranquil space in Corsica, a white and wood villa on Mykonos, a Norwegian cabin by the sea, and a Scandinavian style cottage in Oregon.

Roll on summer!

Have a lovely day!
