A charming and relaxed Dutch home

This lovely home by a canal in Amersfoort, The Netherlands, oozes charm and happiness. The family of four - Irene, her husband and two little girls - designed the living space themselves and centred everything around the home-made dining table where they like to gather. When Irene is not working as an assistant Product Manager she is busy hunting for flee market finds and working on cool DIY projects around her home which are documented on her blog. I love the relaxed, personal  feel of the space. It makes me want to embark on a few DIY projects of my own, how about you?

Anything that stands out to you in particular?

I really like the kitchen dresser. Irene painted it in several colours before deciding on mint green (try Farrow & Ball Teresa's green or Pale Powder for a similar effect). Other Dutch homes with great examples of hand painted furniture include this and this home).

You can see more of this home captured by Celine Nuberg and a full write up (in Dutch) here.

Since we're going all out Dutch today - you might want to check out other fab homes from The Netherland's previously featured here including this, this and this one. I love the use of colour!

Have a lovely day!

PS I'm so pleased to see the return of wonderful sponsor Dorayaky, a shop selling 100% handmade bags. Each bag is designed and manufactured by the creative duo Auroro Pérez and Fernando Albero in their studio in Valencia, Spain. The result is a range of personal handbags which capture their love for design and well-made objects.

Shades of grey in a lovely Gothenburg home

Well, hello Wednesday! I hope you're having a great week so far? We're gearing up for a snowy week in Dalarna (famous for the Dala horse) at a friends cottage, I'm sure there'll be some instagram pics on the go! But before then there's still several oh so fab home tours to share this week. Starting with this lovely Gothenburg home decorated in I don't how many shades of grey (but probably not as many as 50 te he!). A touch of natural material (rattan and wooden) has been added to create a warm, relaxed feel. I could make myself at home here, how about you?

Is this your kind of colour scheme?

As always a couple of items I know and love (incidentally, I don't earn money from these links - they're just here because I think they're helpful): tripp trap children's chair, String shelving, HAY cushion, Mark Eden Schooley pendant light, linen bedding

If you're after more grey home inspiration today there's an entire archive waiting for you here (you're welcome!!).

Have a lovely day!

PS Don't forget to stop by this weekend for my very exciting St. Valentine's Day give-away.

A Swedish home in the archipelagos

I'm a big fan of interiors which reflect the surrounding nature. And this one in Tyresö Skogsstad near Tyresö, Sweden is a fine example. The show apartment has been designed to reflect the beautiful Tyresta National Park and archipelago (think boating, cool dips and lazy days on the beach) on it's doorstep.  Line Sandberg has used natural materials such as wood, leather, linen and sheepskins and a warm palette of greens, browns and greys to bring the nature indoors. The mix of old and new furniture also helps to create a cosy, warm feel. It's hard to believe no one lives there, don't you think?

Photographer: Gustav Kaiser. Interior design: Line Sandberg, LOFT Homestaging. nspired by Hitta Hem, with thanks.

Imagine living in the archipelagos?!

I spy: Normann Bell pendant lamp in sand, Thonet 214 and 209 chairs and soft Linen bedding

Other homes which bring the outside in include this cosy weatherboard cottage, a rustic chalet in the Swiss alps and an idyllic Finnish cottage.

Have you brought the surrounding nature indoors into your home?

Next month I'm starting a new column where we'll take a peek into homes across Scandinavia and hear more about the home-owners daily lives. If you live in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland and you'd like to be a part of this column please send me a mail with some snapshots of your home and examples of activities you enjoy, I'd love to hear from you.

Have a lovely day!

An eclectic home in sunny California

I love it when you've been looking for a solution and then you spot something in a home and think - why yes, of course! For example, I was drooling over this fab, eclectic family home of Amber Thrane, co-founder of Dulcet Creative on Glitter Glide, when I spotted the patio tiles...OK, her home is in sunny California, and mine's in southern sweden - but I think they could work in my own back yard, don't you? I live by the sea after all! In fact Amber's entire home is brimming with wonderful ideas. I love the mix of mid-century, ethnic, industrial and vintage too,  so I'm sure there'll be more ideas I'll be squirreling away on Pinterest, how about you?

Wow, this home has everything. Even blue skies!

A few of the items I love: Night and Day Sofa,  Carmela coffee table, Karlstad sofa, Llapjung ruta pillow / cushion, Hektar floor lamp, the outdoor fireplace was a Craigslist find. Oeuf cot / crib, Eames RAR rocking chair.

The boho touches are spot on. This DIY macrame wall hanging is a perfect way to get the look, plus there are tips on where to buy kilim cushions and rugs in the lower part of this post.

Anything that stands out to you?

I absolutely loved following the discussions in the comment section over the weekend including a debate about the black and white fashion photography trend and whether or not to use carpet and rugs in the home. It's always interesting to hear your thoughts. Thank you for making this blog such an inspiring place to hang out!

Have a happy start to the week!
