Hot trend: decorating with duct tape

All those years of carefully mounting our beloved prints in pretty frames and spending hours thinking about how to hang masks / scuptures / necklaces and now, the hot trend  from Norway? Putting things up with sticky tape. And I love it! What do you reckon?

Swedish home teeming with flea market finds

Morning! I'm a bit bleary eyed as I've just got back from stunning and vibrant Cape Town, South Africa. It was such a creative city, brimming with inspiration. The interior style vibe is similar to Scandinavia with natural materials, white walls and flashes of bright colours. This Swedish home from Sköna Hem seemed a very apt nod to my trip. I love all the flea market finds, the industrial lighting and tourquoise and white bedroom.

Ullis - the wonderful guest blogger from Friday has industrial lights like these which she found at a flea market in Malmö, Sweden. Try Etsy. Painting wooden floors to create a harlequin effect has become the kitchen floor du jour in Sweden and Norway.

Such a great idea to take all the pages from an old 'biology' book and create a wall piece, I think it looks really lovely.

You can find large letters like these at the Old Cinema in London. Again, try Etsy for industrial lighting.
And now....I'm going to scour the web for pictures of beautiful South African homes. It will keep me away from the temptation of publishing lovely Christmassy homes...is it to early for that...or not? I love Christmas but am worried that once I get started I won't be able to stop!

Ta da for now!

It's the simple things in life with this beautiful home

Morning, and a happy Monday to you! Sometimes you see a set of pictures and they just blow you away. Like now, when I came across the Norwegian blog Moa og Kaffekoppen and Moa's incredible pics of her home. Very simple, very minimalistic and very lovely. Thank you Moa!

These are a few of my favourite things...

Hi, so I'm Ullis... I live in a house amongst stacks of interior mags, with a head full of interior ideas, unfinished projects and a wish for my very own handyman to come and execute them all. I wouldn't mind if the handyman had a generous wallet too...

I have a particular obsession with lighting in all shapes, sizes or forms. Any lighting signed Tom Dixon is a particular favourite and more than welcome into my home! I love the play with contrasts - industrial vs. organic, hard vs. soft, cold vs. warm. Like his Bulb Chandelier (below). It almost looks like a diamond ring.

Shown above is the geometrical Etch Light. Pictures are from Tom Dixons catalogue which you can find here.

Lighting doesn't always need to be a source of light, it can just serve the purpose of an illuminous installation. I am seriously contemplating something like this to greet guests in the hall...

A scavanger hunt for desk lamps at the 2nd hand stores, a saw, some spray paint, glue and light cords later and you could create something like the above. But sometimes it's not even the light itself that's of interest, it's where or how you place it!

Credit owed where credit is due - I have a folder full of inspirational pictures I have saved over the years making it difficult to trace the source. If you know where the above three pics are from, please let me know and I will update the post!

That's all from me. Lights out!

Niki is back after the weekend. Have a bright one!

Ethel's sunny house

This family found the perfect solution to have mother-in-law close at hand - building Ethel a house in the garden. I could quite easily live in this bright and breezy Swedish home! Thank you Hus o Hem!

Pops of green in a Skåne home

Morning all! My week's been brightened up by these pics of a turn of the century house in Landskrona, right here in Skåne, Sweden. I love the pops of green and the birdy print in the bedroom. Thank you Hus o Hem!

The reading lamp is Arne Jacobsen. The lovely brown throw and ceramic bowl are from one of my favourite shops here in Skåne - Udda Tina.

The lovely bright tins used to store toys are from the carnival Lundakarnevalen

The chest of drawers was found in the basement and painted grass green

I love the green in the children's bedroom. According to GharExpert  green adds freshness, peace and increases brain power. That's me sold! You?! For more images visit Swedish magazine Hus o Hem.
