Peach and Rust tones in an Elegant Norwegian Home

This is definitely the year 'pink' got tough. Forget fluffy and romantic, it's all about the earthy, 'dirty' peach tones. And it goes beautifully with the chocolate and rust notes of Autumn. Take the beautiful home of Malin Antonsen as an example. Malin is an interior designer living in Oslo, Norway with a penchant for "decor, flowers and other pretty things that makes life better". She has recently given her walls a once over in one of my favourite shades: blushing peach - I'm excited to see it looks equally pretty in the sitting room as it does in the bedroom. The hue also provides a soft, yet atmospheric background for abstract art, design classics, in-season bouquets and shiny details! Step this way!

I so enjoyed this tour. Malin's home strikes a wonderful balance between classic and elegant and everything that's hot right now.

I might just have to nick the idea of the Pholc light by the bed (I don't actually have a reading lamp right now so there's definitely a lamp vacancy waiting to be filled, and this Swedish one is a beauty!).

Is there anything that caught your eye?

See more of Malin's lovely home on her blog. And continue soaking up the Norwegian vibe by taking a tour of a colourful retro funkis house, a relaxed artist's apartment in Oslo, the relaxed Norwegian apartment of Maja Hattvang. And of course - there were those four Norwegian bedrooms in yesterday's post!

Have a wonderful day!

The Fabulous Sydney Home of A Photographic Interior Stylist

G'day! It's been a while! We were actually meant to be back in Sweden today, but Allie picked up a tummy bug in London a couple of days ago (poor little thing!) - so only half the family made it back! Guh! Has that ever happened to you? Hopefully we can head home this afternoon. ANYHOW, I thought I'd kick off November with a very special tour of the home of Australian interior stylist Kerrie-Ann Jones. Kerrie-Ann began her home decor career working for glossy interior magazines including Real Living. Today she works as a photographic interior stylist and creative director, counting some of Australia's leading furniture, art and homeware brands as her clients. Based on this intro, you can kind of guess that her own home - a Sydney terrace house in Darlinghurst - is pretty fabulous, and you wouldn't be wrong! The earthy, light-filled living space has been artfully curated using a blend of mid-century, contemporary vintage, art and handmade pieces against a cool back drop of polished concrete and white walls. Come and take a peek inside!

A series of skylights flood the open plan kitchen with great shafts of light - one of the reasons Kerrie-Ann fell in love with the house in the first place!

Peel back the layers and you'll find a cool polished concrete floor and whitewashed walls.

I do love a polished concrete floor - but they certainly need a lot of cosying up (especially in Sweden). This large, striped rug in the second living room does the trick, plus it's very pretty too!

I spotted a rattan chair like this one in the corner of Kerrie-Ann's daughter's room in the Swedish shop Granit the other day - isn't it fabulous? I also love the wooden bookshelves in the corner of the room - laying children's books flat against the room makes it so much easier for them to pick out their favourite books (usually the longest ones....!).

Kerrie-Ann has decorated her own room with layers of texture in earthy hues and a simple rust accent. The guest bedroom is a little more vibrant with salmon pink linen bedding (what a difference a little coloured linen can make - source similar here*!).

If you're thinking of renovating your bathroom - take heed! It can be pretty expensive to make-over a space like this so, in MHO it's way better to go for something timeless like a grey and white theme and then bring in the latest trends with accessories - just like Kerrie-Ann has done. The same goes for cushions in the sitting room, dishcloths in the kitchen etc.

Love the bust!

What did you think? Planning a complete overhaul of your own home? Or maybe just scouring second-hand rug* sites (like I am!)?

I LOVED the gallery wall in the first picture (in case you missed them, scroll on up and take a look at the items on the rattan side-table too - each piece is like a work of art)!

Is there anything that stood out to you?

You can see more of Kerrie-Ann's home and latest work on her instagram feed (warning, you could be stuck there for hours). You can also read a full interview with Karrie-Ann on Bed Threads and Domino

Shall we stick to Australia this bright and sunny Monday? I think it feels kind of apt - plus many of the homes I've featured from the land Down Under have been among my favourites! I'm loving this sleek bachelor pad with a rustic touch, a dreamy waterside home (that view!) and a vibrant, mid-century inspired family home (I remember the artwork caused some controversy when I posted this one!).

Have a fabulous start to the week friends!

Niki

PS I'm so excited about tomorrow's post, there are just so many ideas to steal! See you then!

A Cosy Boho Living Space With a Drop Of Golden Sun!

Hejsan! A drop of golden sun goes a long way to raise the spirits right now, don't you think? I stumbled across these lovely pictures captured for the Maison du Monde Spring Summer 2020 Tuscany Collection and could feel the warmth oozing from my screen, I knew I had too share them with you! The beautiful spaces have been furnished with a relaxed, boho blend of rich textures in earthy tones of ochre, burnt umber, rust, and sunset yellow - and are bathed in warm pools of sunlight! Pull up a chair amica, it's time to get toasty and dream of summer days alfresco!

Can you practically feel the sunlight on your face?!

I love the sitting room in particular - I could totally get cosy there and wile away an entire afternoon (or two, or three) there, how about you?!

Did anything stand out to you?

I was going to show you a really colourful Danish home today but the post has got slightly held up - bear with me, I promise it will be well worth the wait later on in the week. Feeling excited about it already!

Have a lovely, sunny day friends!

Umber and Chestnut Accents in a Lovely Swedish Home

Rust, umber, chestnut, chocolate - rich shades of dark brown are turning out to be the unsung hero of 2018! I was sceptical at first and a tad nervous about painting my office in Norwegian Wood (especially after my seven year old's colour comparison, which I won't repeat!). But now that I've lived with it for a month (alongside the blushing peach in my bedroom) I absolutely love it. Deep browns have such a calm, warm and sophisticated feel to them. If you're still weary, but tempted, why not start with some more subtle touches? Gothenburg based Swedish interior stylist Elin Odnegård has opted for rich chocolate accents in her home which she has combined with milky white, beige, soft grey and powder for a truly calm aesthetic.  Let's take a peek...

An uber comfy looking 70's armchair picked up at a flea market has been paired with the 'Be Quiet' print and a Muuto wood table lamp

I do love the print! It reminds me a little of The Twits!

Elin has painted the wooden Ivar cupboard from IKEA in Norwegian Wood from Jotun.

A Tom Dixon Mirror Ball Pendant and Knoll Cesca Cane armless chairs bring a touch of the seventies vibe to the dining area.

The shelves behind the dining table are used to display a collection of one of ceramic pieces including pretty white vase made by Elin's friend Emmeli Hultqvist.

These powder coloured sheer curtains are so pretty - they add so much softness to the kitchen dining area which also features the Muuto Fluid pendant light.

The Rabbit with Small Hat print, a Sandqvist rucksack and personalised kitchen cabinets from IKEA look lovely against a wall painted in Balans by Jotun lady.

So, what did you think? Liking the brown accents?

If you'd love to see more of Elin's home hop on over to her instagram feed along where she sahres daily snippets along with her latest interior projects.  Or for more general information about Elin's work and to ogle some truly beautiful images from her portfolio - visit her website here.

For more brown inspo today there's always the 'brown' archive (yes, I have an archive for everything!) - I especially love this home!

Have a great day everyone!

PS It's so crazy hot here in Sweden that the Government has actually issued a ban on disposable barbecues due to the risk of forest fire anywhere south of Stockholm (the message was received in the form of a text and e-mail!) - absolutely nuts for the time of year!

5 Lessons to Learn About Adding An Accent Colour From A Lovely Malmö Home

Millennial pink. An earthy, powdery, achingly cool shade that the interior world never seems to tire of. And when you see apartments like this one (currently for sale in Malmö, Sweden) you can understand why. The owners have added subtle touches in a spectrum that range from pale powder to a deeper brown-pink in every room. Pink not your gig? There's still a load to learn about how to add an accent colour that gives your living space that seamless flow seen in the homes in interior magazines! And the good news is that you only really need one or two items in each room. You may find you've naturally already achieved a great flow, but in case your home needs a helping hand here are 5 'accent colour' lessons to learn from a lovely Southern Sweden home:

1. One or two will do! It's tempting to go overboard and add your chosen colour to everything: walls, furniture and accessories, but actually it's enough just to go for one or two things such as a chair and a few accessories (like the cups seen on the shelf below) in each room.

2. Stay on the spectrum: There's no need to stick to the exact shade, slightly different tones of your accent colour will work as long as they're on the same spectrum. For example, in this Malmö home all the pink hues have a blue undertone and feel earthy and soft.

3. Add balance: I was umming and ahing about including this picture because I didn't want the colour-coded books to distract from the pink (we all know there are a LOT of strong opinions out there about how to arrange books!). Anyhooo, check out the artwork on the sitting room wall, the int of pink picks up the colour in the chairs in the kitchen and helps to add balance and tie the rooms together.

4. Pick a statement piece: To really set off your accent colour opt for one or two pieces that really make a statement - like the owners of this apartment have done with the Hay Mags sofa*. I understand many like to go for a safe bet when it comes to choosing a sofa or armchair since it's a rather large investment. Having said that, if you choose an accent colour that you're naturally drawn to and have always loved rather than an on-trend hue, you'll never tire of it.

Tip: If in doubt, try an IKEA sofa (which you can pick up for a song second hand) and invest in a beautiful designer cover from Bemz* with you can swap out at any time (like I've done here).

5. Something in every room: try to add at least one small thing in your accent colour to every room in your home, even if it's massively subtle like a cushion (seen below) or a vase (on the windowsill in the sitting room) or a few folded textiles (above the dresser in the last picture). This will help to tie your home together in a subtle way and create a cohesive look.

What do you think? Has this been helpful?

In my home I've used a rust / chestnut colour as an accent. I have to admit I haven't been entirely consequential with it and having seen this home I think it would be nice to do a little more.

Do you have a colour that you're particularly drawn to?

In case you're undecided, I love these archives for colour inspiration:

Oj oj oj! I do believe it's Friday people! I love it when the weekend comes around that fast, don't you?! I know it sounds strange, but I spent so much time with my little family over the holidays that I've kind of missed them this week, do you ever feel like that too? I'm looking forward to hanging out with them this weekend.

I hope you have a great one!

See you Monday!
