Swedish Island Life: A Beautiful Limestone Farmhouse on Gotland

It would be weird not to dream about escaping to a pretty Swedish island on a Monday morning, wouldn't it?! And with summer around the corner (it's a whopping 25 degrees C / 77 degrees Fahrenheit in Malmö today) I can't help thinking how I'd gladly swap my house and everything in it for this rustic 18th century limestone farmhouse on the Baltic island of Gotland. And this one's for sale! Yep, I know! I mean talk about a summer paradise: sweeping lawns, a pool, old wood beams, pretty earthy tones and a guest cottage - not to mention a short cycle ride to the sea.  This place has everything I dream about in summertime and more! Välkommen in!

Forget tiles, stones collecting from the surroundings offer perfect flooring at the foot of the oven! Contemporary touches such as a TISCA rug and classic Series 7 chairs* help to bring the space up to date.

A green wall and kitchen cabinets break away from the white and light blue in a subtle, yet pretty way! The tone on tone works due to the different surface texture. 

The relaxed summer cottage vibe is carried through to the dining room with rattan woven chairs and a rustic farmhouse table.  

Mix and matching bedside reading lamps (the standing lamp is from IKEA, source a vintage table lamp here*) adds a relaxed feel. Note how the white, green and blue theme is brought into the bedroom using bedding too.

An outhouse has been converted into a perfect little cottage for guests!

Explore A Dreamy Swedish Pool Villa on Gotland

With much of Scandinavia basking in sunshine and warmth this week, it would be rude not to transport us to the Swedish holiday of Gotland today! After all, there's only one month left until the school holidays, and the start of summer cottage life! 

While it would be wonderful to spend the summer at this house on the southeast of the island (the pool looks heavenly for starters!), I could quite happily pull up a seat by the fire in wintertime too. 

True to Swedish style, it has a light and airy open floor plan and features traditional furniture and rugs so often seen in country homes. But perhaps what stands out to me the most are the pops of red and orange in each room - which add so much warmth against the cool stone floors. 

Välkommen in! 

Could you imagine living here? 

And what do you make of the pops of red and orange? I think they add a lovely personal touch and lots of warmth. But even if you're not a fan, the use of colour is a great example of how to add a favourite accent to each room.

A House and Garden with a Beautiful Greenhouse on The Swedish Island of Gotland

Today I'm taking you to the magical Swedish island of Gotland for a tour of Linnea's romantic home and garden. Linnéa lives in south Gotland with her husband and their two children Lilly and Harry. During the day Linnéa runs interior shop Ladan I Hemse (a must visit if you're on Gotland!) and online baby boutique  Papijjon Sweden together with her best friend Sandra. And luckily for us, she also takes the time to share snapshots of her house and garden - including DIY ideas and her latest flee market finds on her beautiful instagram feed @leitntoinspiration.

Welcome to Linnéa's world!

Linnéa and her family added a greenhouse to their property a couple of years ago. Greenhouses have become highly coveted in Sweden and are used not only for gardening - but also as an extra room! With its Gotland stone foundation this greenhouse is extra pretty! Note how Linnéa has lined the ceiling and walls with fabric to help keep the heat out. A crucial element! 

Simply beautiful!

A Beautiful Swedish Rectory on the Island of Gotland

It's been way too long since I featured a house on the Swedish island of Gotland, don't you think? Long-term followers here know that I have a huge love for the Swedish Baltic island. We visited by sailing boat a few years ago, and Per had to practically drag me away, otherwise I would have stayed! 

I can't wait to return again someday - have you been? In the meantime, we can all dream about the beautiful island via the Gotland house tours I share. And this one just popped up in my feed! An old rectory dating back to 1902, the stately house is a short stone's throw from the church (I love the sound of church bells ringing in the morning, do you?). Inside, the rooms have wonderful vistas over the surrounding farmland and have been beautifully renovated in earthy tones of stone with deep blue and grey. All that's waiting now, is for someone to add their personal touch with books, art, textiles and all the cosy items that make a house a home. Could it be you? Step inside and decide for yourself! 

I love the huge windows and imagine each room to change with the time of day and season! The outside space looks wonderful too. Imagine how peaceful it is there?
