Bohemian touch in a magnificent Berlin apartment

Have you ever been to Berlin? Or perhaps you're lucky enough to live there? I've visited a few times over the past few years and it's fast become one of my favourite cities. One memorable evening we wondered through the Kreuzberg district which is a really vibrant part of town and very cool, in an edgy, bohemian way (I was in awe!). That's probably why I was so excited to stumble across this incredible apartment in the same area. Owner Karina and her husband have decorated the space with restraint - choosing a few carefully selected pieces each with a story to tell - and at the same time allowing the magnificent architecture to take centre stage. And who better to capture the space than Jules Villebrandt of herz und blut?! Let's take a tour...

Photography: Jules Villbrandt. Home-owner: Karina.

What a beautiful apartment! Those floors! That ceiling.... I love the way an upper section in the kitchen has been left in it's original state, very beautiful don't you think?

Get the look from Karina's apartment: souce a beautiful, colourful boucherouite rug here, this is a great source for made-to-measure dual toned linen curtains, Angelpoise lamp.

You can see more pics and read a full interview over on herz und blut here.

You might also like to take a peek at a mid-century inspired Berlin home,  a Berlin home full of contrast and a calm Berlin home with a modern twist. So inspiring!

Oh and  something else you may find interesting (at least I did!) - this graphic maps out the top interior design trends for each US state, who knew?!

And finally, don't miss my sitting room refresh with Bemz tomorrow - am so excited to be sharing it with you!

Have a lovely day!

A Lovely, Understated, Warm and Inviting Berlin Home

Why, hello there Friday - how lovely to see you! If I could choose where I'd like to be hanging out over the next couple of days it would be here! First of all it's in Berlin (yes, yes, I know; I totally wax lyrical about it being one of my favourite cities, but it's true!). And secondly - the home has such a lovely vibe to it. Jana shares daily shots of it on her instagram @Pixiswelt (German speaking friends, does this mean something in particular?) and I love that the space is pared-back and understated and yet makes me want to pull up a chair and stay for a while! I put this down to the beautiful dark wall in the sitting room, the artwork (look closely and you'll see one of the pieces is actually a rug*) and the plants - they do so much! Needless to say, the apartment also has incredible bones  - and on warmer days, the balcony door can be thrown open to draw in great gasps of air. An all-round beauty!

 Era chairs*, Eames chair*

Ferm Living rug* (on wall)

Such a lovely home tour with which to round-off the week, don't you think?!

Is there anything you loved in particular? I really like the idea of the Ferm Living rug* on the wall!

Other Berlin spaces to love this weekend (bet you saw that coming!): a bohemian touch in a magnificent Berlin home, before and after: a Berlin studio undergoes a magnificent make-over and Josi's relaxed and super charming home.

Have a fabulous weekend y'all!

Niki x

PS I've signed up to do 'Toughest Family' with my daughters on Sunday which I'm now seriously  regretting! Wish me luck, I'm gonna need it! Hope your plans are, errrr, slightly more relaxing!

Cici and Locke's Cosy, Relaxed, and Elegant Berlin Home

Boy, do I have a treat in store for you today! There's something so easy, so relaxed, and so beautiful about Cici's apartment, with its lush green views, playful touches and wonderful mix of designer touches, plants, books and blankets. Couple this with the Berlin architecture and warm glow from lighting and you have the perfect autumn home. Lucky Locke (the resident hound!) who gets to share the space.

Pour yourself a coffee, pull up a seat and enjoy the tour!

Pendants from IKEA, wishbone chairs, print from Wall of Art.

Two happy residents: Cici and Locke.

Togo Fireside armchair from Ligne Roset, mood lighting from Artemide.

Panton wired shelving from Montana.

Striped bedding from H&M Home, Rice paper shade from Hay.

So cosy and elegant. I love this home!

Did you enjoy the tour of Cici and Locke's home too?

I think one of my favourite things was all the mood lighting in the form of table lamps. There are so many portable lamps available these days which means you can move them around without having to worry about cables and wall sockets which opens up a world of opportunities! This portable Flowerpot lamp from Danish band &Tradition is one of my favourites.

See more of Cici's lovely home (including films) here

Would you like to tour a few other Berlin apartments today? Take a look at:

All stunning in their own way!

Happy mid-week friends!

Josi's Relaxed & Super Charming Berlin home

Hola que tal?! I'm on a mini break with my family in Spain right now soaking up a little half-term sunshine (the light, oh the light!). Although, this morning my mind is a few thousand kilometres away in Western Europe in this gem of an apartment in Berlin Mitte. And it's one beautiful home. Enjoyed by Josi (if you haven't discovered her on instagram hurry over now!) and her boyfriend Philipp, who are expecting their first child (how cute is that crib?! Find a similar ones here) and their two rabbits Püppi and Anton. The space is flooded with warm pools of light, which dance off a beautiful original parquet floor, mid-century and rattan finds against a backdrop of striking textures and deep hues. Possible one of my favourite apartments to date - I feel instantly warm and fuzzy just looking at it, how about you?!

Photography / Design: Josi / @jose_phiiiine

There are so many elements I love about this home. But that hallway is probably the most inspiring of all! Imagine being greeted by this view each day when you arrive home?

Is there anything that stands out to you?

Get the look from Josi's home: hallway - Lyra rattan sofa (LOVE this!), light from Monoqui. Dining room - Starkey chandelier. bedroom - Java pendant light, print above bed from Desenio, source a similar crib here, Penn dressing table with mirror.

If you'd like to see more of Josi's home and find out where other items are from - nip on over to her Instagram feed here.

And for a few other lovely Berlin apartments (of which there are many - that city is so hot on relaxed, boho style, have you been? if not you must!) - check out this magnificent, bohemian pad, a mid-century inspired home and a fantastic Berlin home. Inspiring!

Have a lovely day!

PS Edition London & Country Living magazine shared an excerpt from The Scandinavian Home - and it features one of my favourite Danish homes ever (we had such a memorable day shooting it too!) - read all about it and take a tour here!

Grey and Greige in a Magnificent Berlin Home

Why, hello there! How was your weekend? Kind of whizzed by, like mine?! Don't worry, this is going to be a great week for us all, I can feel it in ma' bones! I'm back home in London today enjoying a little snuggle time with my one year old niece (she's adorable - I might just have to pack her into my case and take her back with me!). I did manage to tear myself away for just enough time to create today's post though. I thought, being a hectic Monday and all, I should opt for a home tour with an element of calm, what do you reckon? This beautiful home belongs to interior stylist Selina Lauck, her boyfriend Olli, a cutler (AKA knife maker - yes, I had to look that up!) and four year old dog Gordin (look closely and you might just spot him!) in Berlin Mitte. Selina studied fashion design before realising that this wasn't her passion, and after a year in Oslo, returned to Berlin to work for Danish brand Hay. Her love for Nordic design shines through every corner of her home, which she describes as 'minimalist with a Scandinavian influence'. Enjoy!

Photography: Selina Lauck

Wow! What an incredible home - don't you think?! Selina's minimalist style and subtle colour scheme allows the magnificent structure and period features of the space to shine through - so perfect!

Here's a little guide to where things are from:

Bedroom: Mantis table lamp (I've got the same in my office!), House of Baltic sells similar linen bedding. Wall colour by Farrow & Ball.

Kitchen: lamp from Kai Linke, Alessi kettle (love this!) faceless portrait from faroe island artist Gurilla Artstudio, wall colour by Farrow & Ball.

Hallway: this round mirror is similar, print from The Poster Club.

Sitting room: Knoll diamond chair, Begonia Maculata print by Coco Lapine, Menu dining chairs. Hay sofa.

If you don't already follow Selina on Instagram, it's an absolute must (she's so good at tagging too - something I need to be better at!!). A little birdie tells me she's also launching an interior blog any time soon - stay tuned! Oh and, the word on the street is that the wonderful Jules from Herz Und Blut paid Selina a visit recently and snapped a beautiful home tour (check it out here!).

More beautiful Berlin homes here too!

Have a fab start to the week!

PS Tonight I'm heading to Regent Street to celebrate the launch of the new limited edition Nespresso Variations Confetto collection in collaboration with artists Craig and Karl (candy inspired coffee blends - fika galore! Yay! More on Instagram stories later!

PPS The voting for the Domino Design Blog Awards finishes tomorrow - I'd be soooo grateful if you can take a mo to stop in and cast a vote one last time here (My Scandinavian Home can be found in the category 'Best International Design Blogs'). Thank you so much!
