A Rental Becomes a Charming, Budget-friendly Family Home

From a relaxed home in Malmö in earthy tones (yesterday) to an equally laidback family home in Osnabrück in Northwest Germany today - I love that Scandinavian style inspires homes far and wide! There's evidence of Lena's passion for all things Nordic at every turn in her white, black and neutral rental. From IKEA freestanding furniture (especially practical for anyone who rents since there's no drilling required!) to the HM Home and Søstrene & Green accessories, Lena's home is a practical oasis for her, her partner Torben and 6-month old baby Frida. It's also perfect budget-friendly inspiration for anyone who's renting a space and wants to make it their own!

We all know how important it is to black-out a baby's room to optimise sleep (if only for your own sanity!) and a simple handmade curtain is a handy way to prevent light from the hallway creeping in.

Contemporary Danish Design Meets Rustic in A Fabulous House In The Med

One of the most exciting things in the world of interiors at this time of the year is that brands are announcing their 'news' - which means a flurry of stunning lifestyle images. Ferm Living's latest offerings have just landed in my inbox and they certainly don't disappoint. The Danish brand has chosen a beautiful rustic setting to showcase their Spring Summer 2020 collection. Think earthy tones and organic shapes merging with soft, natural fittings and honest materials. I want to head over to the Med and settle into one of those desert lounge chairs by the pool all winter long - let's just hope the stylists left the kit behind! Anyone wanna join me?!

The above picture hints at the hottest colour combination this year: soft blue, brown and yellow (with a punch of deep, electric blue!). Stay tuned as I'll be sharing more on this later in the week!

I've got my eye on this new Vuelta lamp - it would work absolutely anywhere in my home (and you know how I love to move things around!). Kind of cool, don't you think?

One word: sofa. 

Just add a cushion in a golden accent colour and the room is complete. 

To me Ferm Living is all about the kids stuff. I've always loved the items they make for children's rooms - like the apple basket and this new dotted cushion! Too cute, don't you think?! 

I wonder, if I were to pick up a Desert Lounger like the one above (the textile seat is made from  recycled plastic bottles!), would I need to get a pool to match? If so, I'd better warn Per...

A Soothing Swedish Home In Shades of Green and Grey

Hej there vänner! I have to admit, I hit a bit of January bump on Saturday and felt so fed up with the relentless grey, cold, dark days (cue very grumpy wife and Mum!). And then - just when we needed it most, the sun came out and we were treated to a diamond of a day - PHEW! Spirits revived and feeling like I can do these winter months after all, I thought I'd kick off the week with a beautiful Swedish home. Formerly owned by Lovisa Kvist, it went on the market a few months back and was, understandably, snapped up within a matter of days (you've got to be quick over here!). Lovisa and her partner have furnished the home with some beautiful design pieces against a soothing backdrop of green, grey and the palest of pinks. Ready for the tour?

This cane harbour bed* is similar. I've never seen this lamp before and am curious to know whether it's a DIY hack with a mosquito net? If so - what a fabulous idea!! Now that I've written this, I really hope it's not an eye-wateringly expensive designer lamp or I'll have caused major offence - eeeek! Please do chip in in the comment section if you know anything about it! 

Update: I received a lovely message from owner Lovisa who confirmed that she did indeed make this lamp using a mosquito net. In fact, she used two for extra fluffiness - which she bought from IKEA along with the pendant lamp inside. The bedroom wall has been painted in Thyme from Jotun.

I love the bathroom, it has a touch of old school glamour. My guess is that the curtain hides a washing machine - clever solution, don't you think? In the UK people tend to have their washing machines in the kitchen but in Sweden they are either housed in a communal area known as a 'tvättstuga' which you sign up to use each week, or people put them in their bathrooms. How's it done in your country?

Friday Feels: Tour Mary's Charming and Relaxed Family Home

Sometimes I look through interior magazines and think 'this is wonderful, but there's no way I could ever achieve this' - do you sometimes feel like that too? I think that's why, over here on My Scandinavian Home, I always try to share homes which will inspire as many as possible. Cue: Mary's charming home! Mary lives in an apartment in Halle, Germany with her husband, two sons and two cats.  During the day Mary works as a social worker, helping children with autism (a job she loves) and in her spare time she's passionate about creating a beautiful, relaxed home for her and her family. The living space combines a blend of pieces from ikea, vintage finds, new nordic design and handmade items while books, art and plants contribute to the wonderful lived-in vibe.
