An Enchanting 1930s Swedish Cottage Filled with Colour, Charm, and DIY Creations

Oh, have I got a charming cottage to share with you today! Built in the 1930s, this beauty looks like something straight out of a fairytale from the outside, and the magic continues inside with a joyful mix of colour and pattern. Every room has its own unique charm, making this home a true delight.

Sandra Serefia, who lives just outside Gothenburg in Lerum with her young family, has a real talent for DIY. She creates everything from hand-painted patterns on floors to crafting her own dining table, all with a keen eye for design and plenty of creativity.

Keep an eye out for floral ceilings, dreamy pink shades (like the walls i the sun room below painted in NCS 2020-Y80R), checked floors, cosy cotton lampshades (a must-have right now!), and the sweetest children's bedroom you ever did see!

While the above shows the main sitting room, below is a glimpse of the cosy TV room  with layers of lovely textiles. Notice how all the bright coloured toys are concealed in a cabinet when not in use!

Pink stairs? Why not! I love the pale pink (NCS code S3020-Y50R), white and green combination–how about you?

A nook at the side of the bedroom has been transformed into an ensuite bathroom. This is the second time in the space of a week that we've seen a lovely bathroom with sloped ceilings (here's the tour with the other one), very inspiring!

Here's another lovely pink shade (NCS 1820-Y97R), which goes beautifully with the blue (Icey blue by Jotun Lady).

Are you even Swedish if your child doesn't have a Kånken mini rucksack? I love this one in yellow - my daughter had the very same one when she was small!

Even the dressing room / walk-in-wardrobe in the children's room is pretty!

This home is such a dream! I love how Sandra has thought about every detail and there is something fascinating to look at around every corner.

Is there anything that caught your eye? Perhaps some details I missed?

A Beautiful Swedish Home Tour with A Smart Bathroom Makeover

Tjena! Hur är läget? Do you have awkward angles at home? Perhaps a sloped ceiling that’s causing you decorating strife? If so, you might just find inspiration in Natalie’s lovely Swedish home.

Natalie (known as @huslyftet on Instagram) and her partner are true decorating wizards – and they don’t do things by halves. Not only did they lift their entire house and move it two and a half metres (eight feet) across the lawn, but they also added an extension before transforming the entire living space to create a truly personal haven.

Today, their pretty, light-filled home features a wonderful array of whimsical floral wallpaper, providing the perfect backdrop for traditional kitchen cabinetry, vintage furniture, and personal touches. But what really caught my eye is the bathroom. Tucked under the sloped roof, the awkward angles made it a tricky build, but with some clever design work, they created the most beautiful space – complete with a shower, bath, and twin basins.

So, pour yourself a coffee and get comfy – here’s the full tour, along with a peek at the before-and-after shots of the bathroom!

I was so excited to see this armchair. I once picked up a pair exactly like this at a 'loppis' (flea market) here in Malmö. Sadly, they were in quite bad disrepair and I couldn't afford to get them reupholstered so I gave them away, but I always wondered who made them. Maybe now I'll find out!

The guest bathroom door can be spotted in to the right of the above picture. This is what it looks like inside:

I love how Natalie has picked out tones from the William Morris wallpaper and matched them with accessories like towels - very pretty!

Note the built-in cupboards and drawers in the master bedroom to the right which make use of every inch of space.

The bathroom
And now friends, as promised, it's time to take a peek at the bathroom. The before pictures (or should I say, the picture of the shell of the room just as the work started) gives a great idea of the shape of the room. not an easy space!

And here, is the after. Practical (note the amount of storage), pretty and in keeping with the rest of the house.

Such a lovely home!

I really loved the craftsmanship in the bathroom - and how they created such slim cabinetry to make the space of what would have otherwise been dead space. If anyone else has teenage girls like I do, you'd understand the need for PLENTY of storage!

Is there anything that stood out to you about Natalie's home?

A Relaxed Swedish Family Home, Where Sofa's are Part of the Fun!

What month is considered the height of summer in your country? In Scandinavia it's July - which I always struggle to adjust to considering throughout my childhood in England, it was always about August! While my instagram feed is flooded with summer holiday pics from Europeans, here in Sweden, we're eking out the late summer and sneaking moments outdoors at lunchtime or after work - acutely aware that our summer will aoon be over, and Autumn is just around the corner.

Perhaps that's why I've been drawn to Swedish villas with pools lately? I even had a dream that my family and I had bought a house with a pool AND a sea view last night (imagine my disappointment when I woke up?)- what does that mean I wonder?

Alexandra Isaksson and her family are no doubt enjoying their pool in the late summer sun - but their beautiful home in Alingsås, Northeast of Gothenburg is also perfect for cosy autumn days. Natural materials seen in the vintage wood furniture, textiles and stonework help to create a cosy feel and botanical-themed wallpaper ensures that nature, although faded, is never far away.

I love that in this home, nothing is too precious - true to the Scandinavian design ethos, everything is there to be used and enjoyed. You only have to look at the little children jumping from sofa to sofa (this would never have washed with my Mum and her upholstered antique chesterfields nor with my grandmother where the living room was for special occasions only!). Enjoy the tour!

Wall mounted shelving like this has made a major comeback in Scandinavia lately and it's a great way to keep everything to hand. Keep a look out for vintage ones at flea markets - they're easy to personalise with paint! Or, do like Kristin Lagerqvist and make your own

I have always loved the use of curtains in replace of wardrobe doors, it adds a really soft touch to a space and can be a great quick fix to hide junk!

You might well recognise the sofas - they are the popular Söderhamn from IKEA covered with linen from Bemz - I have changed up my sofa a number of times thanks to the Swedish brand (who sell worldwide) !

I have always loved this Flos Gatto Piccolo lamp, it's soft yet makes a statement.

Do you recognise the wallpaper in the little girl's room? I recently used this in the bedroom makeover at our summer cottage. I love how Alexandra has paired it with a pink accent.

The bedroom got a small recent update to include shelves over the desk too - practical and pretty.

I hope you liked this tour of Alexandra's home today! It's certainly brightened up my mid-week.

Please do share your observations / comments below - whether about this home or even general stuff (feel free to start your own thread!), I'd love to hear from you. I really enjoyed reading about your childhood nostalgia in Monday's post (and happy you agreed that the little chair I featured is lovely in every way!).

You can see more pictures from Alexandra's home over on her instagram feed @alexandraeleonor.
