The happy home of a Dutch family on a houseboat

Could you imagine living on a houseboat? When I discovered Annelies Dutch houseboat last year I've been dreaming about living on one ever since! And I still believe my Monday mornings would look a whole lot brighter in this family home - with it's light-filled rooms, fresh white and pops of sunny yellow (and breakfast on the deck - of course!)- how about you?!

What a lovely place - her little boy 'Mr Scott' must love living there!

A few items I know and love: eames chairs,  Amsterdam canal cushion from V@Amsterdam, cactus vases from Bloomingville.

Annelies is owner of by Norr and Holy Moly Kids and drives her own fab blog. You can also keep up to date with her lovely life afloat on instagram.

Other houseboat crushes - Bert's barge in London (available to rent - I know!) and a dream houseboat on lake Eildon.

Have a wonderful start to the week!

Unusual places to stay: Bert's barge in London

Holiday planning in our family usually begins with the search words 'unusual places to stay' - we love to find places which are just a little bit off the wall - houseboats, the world's smallest luxury home, tree houses, ski pods - you name it! (What are your usual search words?). We're heading to London to attend the Amara interior blog awards soon (exciting!) and I was so excited to discover Bert & May's latest project - a barge hotel. Moored up on Regent's Canal in Hackney, east London, Bert's barge has been decorated using all the panache you might expect from a company that specialises in fab handmade and reclaimed tiles, wood flooring/ cladding and paint. Combine this with a distinct Scandinavian touch and...well, I'll leave that up to you to decide...

Oh how I'd love to stay here! How about you?

You'll need to book early though - it's unbelievably popular. I'm definitely going to keep an eye on their site for future trips though. Who knows - maybe this could be a project for the canals of Malmö too?!

If being afloat is not for you, I was also excited to discover Bert's Boxes -  a pre-fab mobile home that can pop up on your land within 14 weeks....

Which do you think you'd prefer?

They had me at the tiles and the wood burning stove, so hey, I'll take either, I'm not fussy!

Other examples of oh so cool houseboats include this playful Dutch family space and a dream holiday home on lake Eildon.

I have a dream to build a little outhouse somewhere like Bert's box and hoping it will look like one of these.

More holiday inspiration in the 'design hotels' archive...

On the opposite scale....for the student...here's some fab inspiration for a college or university room

I think it's time to celebrate the weekend don't you? How much would you love to hit this bar straight after work today? See you there?!

Have a great weekend and see you Monday!

A dream houseboat on lake Eildon

Hello! Happy Monday! If you're at the office starting a long week of work, don't worry, I've got just the home for you. Sit back, and dream you're actually here, in this magnificent houseboat overlooking Lake Eildon, Australia. Designed by Pipkorn & Kilpatrick for a family looking for a place from which to wile away a lakeside holiday, the houseboat is made with natural, sustainable materials which reflect the light from the lake. It's simplicity let's the beautiful vistas do the talking. I could spend my entire summer on that deck, how about you?

Imagine sitting out on that terrace with a book and glass of something cool? *Sigh*. Could you wile away a summer here?

The folklore-style cushions on the sofa are not unlike the beautiful ones from Saana Ja Olli (see the Finnish couple's home here).

Another houseboat I've show of late is fabulous for other reasons here.

As you've probably read before, my family and I are keen sailors and love to spend our summers sailing around the Swedish islands on our boat A La Vie (named after our children). That's why I was completely taken by this beautiful sail boat - so idyllic, right?! After seeing this, I might just spend the winter working on the interior of our boat. Watch this space!

Have a dreamy Monday!

A lovely light-filled Dutch family houseboat

Yaaaay, it's the weekend (almost)! The sun's shining and I can see the sea sparkling in the distance (definitely heading off for a swim shortly!)....but first today's tour. Could you imagine anything more wonderful than living on a house boat at this time of year? Brought up in a sailing family, I was practically born on a boat and this would be my dream come true, but it does conjure up images of a rather dark, cramped living space. Not in this Dutch house boat captured by Binti Home though. Located a mere 10 minutes from the centre of Amsterdam, Annelie (co-owner of Bynorr.nl), Hans and baby Scott's home is flooded with natural light. The self-designed open-plan space is uncluttered with fresh white walls and pretty pastel accessories.  The only real hint that it's afloat is from the water seen from the living room window. Such a lovely family home, don't you think?

Homeowner: ByNorr.nl. Binti Home (shared with kind permission). Featured in Flair Magazine.

Apart from the fresh colours, patterns and light wood I think my favourite thing about this home is the mix-match coffee tables in the living room. How about you?

I love the cute children's room too. For similar inspiration it's well worth popping over to fellow Malmö blogger Paul et Paula. My favourite online children shops right now are The Youngsters (owned by my talented interior designer friend Genevieve who also lives in Malmö and who I recently collaborated with on my little girls bedroom) and British/Swedish brand Indikidual (Syreeta used to live here too!) - so lucky to be surrounded by such talented people!

There are a load more pictures of this lovely home plus a full write-up over at Binti Home and Flair Magazine (in Dutch).

For more inspiration from Holland this weekend (after all, the Dutch do have such a great sense of style don't they?) there's an entire archive here (scroll through the first one as it's most likely this home).

Have a wonderful couple of days and for those of you in America...long weekend!

PS if you fancy a dip this afternoon but have no where to go - you can always imagine yourself relaxing in one of these beautiful swimming pools. Love!
