A Warm and Inviting Home in Södermalm, Stockholm

There's plenty to love about the summer - but one of my favourite things is the light. You simply don't get that wonderful golden light in Sweden any other time of the year - and it gives everything such a wonderful, warm feel. 

This apartment in Stockholm has been captured at exactly the right time of day to capture it in all its glory. And I love the way the golden light hits the touches of colour: a red chair here, a yellow flower there to make it pop. Also, keep a look out for classic teak furniture, bold patterns (by the likes of Svenskt Tenn), the eclectic blend of furniture and playful details - as well of course, as the lovely balcony, which looks like a perfect spot for a Friday night drink or two! Skål!  

This is the second time in the past two weeks that we've seen a home with red accents - could it be a growing trend in Sweden perhaps? Either way, it definitely adds energy to each room!

In our house today it's a hive of activity since Hilton Carter (AKA the famous plant man from the USA!) is coming to visit and shoot something in our home for a forthcoming project. I've been a fan of Hilton's ever since I featured his former home which of course, was full of the most incredible plants! So the pressure is on, especially as Per and I only remember to water our plants when they're on the sad side! 

And then, I am looking forward to a very relaxing weekend with my family. Phew!

A Calm Swedish Home in the Heart of the City

Hej there! I hope you had a fantastic weekend! I'm at Bodø airport in North Norway waiting for my flight back to Malmö. I've had such an amazing time in the Arctic circle and can't wait to share more with you once I've had a chance to process my billion pictures! It is a truly awe-inspiring part of the world. 

Today, I'd like to shift our gaze to Sweden, and a beautiful, serene apartment nestled away in a quiet courtyard in Gothenburg. 

It's a living space where sculpted shapes, plants and texture punctuate a milky background to create living space that's calm and cosy. Keep a special look out for the wall art and interesting lighting fixtures, and also the small bedrooms - which are small, but thanks to a clever design by no means feel pokey. 

Välkommen in! 

This window seat has everything you might need for a quiet moment - books, music and a view out over the street below. Perfect spot for a Monday, do you agree? 

The bedspread makes me think of a Danish home. These type of quilts are extremely popular in Denmark and can be picked up from Jou Quilts. 

Look at vase! So fun! Sadly, I am not sure where it's from - if you know, please do share in the comments below. Jonathan Adler makes a similar lip vase. 

IVAR storage units from IKEA are great for hiding small items while also serving as a place to display favourite objects. Plus, they are easy to personalise with paint. 

A pop of red has been one of the big micro trends of the year, especially in Denmark! I love how a single red chair spices up this little room!

Step Inside Mary's Cosy Family Home In Halle, Germany

Do you love to redecorate your home or move everything around once in a while? I featured Mary's home in Germany, four years ago and there have been so many lovely, small changes, I felt it was time to revisit! 

Mary is the founder of @hyggeligt_hjem and lives with her husband, two sons, two cats and a dog in a beautiful old building in Halle. When they first moved in nine years ago, they decorated it in black and white tones (as was de rigueur back then) but slowly, over time, softer tones have crept in. Read on to hear about this lovely home in Mary's own words. 

"At the beginning our walls were white, and over the years, I have become bolder and colour has crept in on the walls in the kitchen, master bedroom and children's bedrooms."

"I love Scandinavian design and like to combine my furniture with vintage pieces."

"I really enjoy changing our apartment again and again with small accessories such as vases, candlesticks and other items. It's much easier than rearranging and exchanging larger items!"

"Flowers are a must for me too. I usually buy a bunch or two on a Friday.  I have a passion for beautiful, exclusively made vases and of course they have to be filled with beautiful flowers!"

"My favourite piece of furniture are the shelves in the living room from Mocoba. I also love our new sofa and Beni Ourain rug, it makes the room feel so cosy! 

"I love to break up the calm tones with colourful prints on the walls or with cushions and blankets."

A Dutch guest house with red floors and vintage touches

Iiiiit's Friday - woohoo! I thought I'd celebrate with a flash of colour. Do you remember this striking Dutch home with red floors which we were all pleasantly surprised about? Well the architect and industrial designer owners have since moved and opened up their wonderful home as a guest house. The  'hostel in The Hague' was furnished by Holly Marder (in record time!) and the result is a bright fun space with cool vintage finds and a boho vibe. If I find myself in this Dutch city I know where I'll be staying, how about you?!

A note on where a few items are from: Dining room: vintage dining chairs / Eye Eye poster /  magazine holder. Bedroom 1: wicker love seat / black and white cushion/ walnut candlestick/ black patterned cushion. Holly has such a great sense of style, I love her bedroom (one of the most popular posts on here ever) and studio. She's also photographed this fab black and white home and a whimsical family home.

The beauty of jet lag (I arrived back from New York yesterday) is it's meant I've managed to creep downstairs first thing and create this post before my girls are awake. There's something great about these quiet hours with just my coffee, laptop and a chunky knit blanket! Do you ever work/ study at first light?

A home with red floors - with surprising results!

It's not often you come across a home with bright red floors throughout, even in Holland where there's a general love of vibrant pops of colour (alla this and this home). I was sceptical I must say, but when I took the tour of the home (beautifully captured by Holly and Jansje) I was pleasantly surprised. Owners Sanne (an industrial designer) and Tim (an architect), bought this lovely space by the sea in The Hague back in 2013 and set about renovating it one design move at a time. They've filled the house with vintage treasures and upcycled furniture collected over the years (the shelves in the sitting room are made from reclaimed stair treads!) as well as the odd modern find. The result is a relaxed, eclectic and vibrant family home. Let's take a tour...
