An Artful And Relaxed Apartment In Aarhus, Denmark (+ Get The Look)

It's Friday, the sun is shining, the weather is sweet. WOOHOO! Do you have any fun plans for the weekend? Before we all head off to kick-back and RELAX, I wanted to share one final home tour - and this one's a real goodie, especially if you love cool Danish style! I have followed Michelle Nielson on instagram for a while now - mainly for fashion / style inspiration. But lurking behind her in the pictures is her beautiful, quirky home in Aarhus, Denmark. Known online as 'stonemuse', Michelle describes herself as a "blogger, Japan-ophile, dreamer and an eater". Her apartment is full of art, books, vintage finds, contemporary design pieces and the odd high street find which pop against  a deep blue and millennial pink backdrop. Welcome inside Michelle's world!

Such a perfect home with which to complete the week, don't you think?

Love that it's colourful and full of interesting detail and yet still fairly minimalist. Danish style at its best!

In case you're curious where a few of the items are from, here's a quick guide:
Get The Look

1. Ikea Stockholm 2017
2. Lou Lou Avenue One Soul*
3. Jotun Skyggebla 4629

Aarhus seems to be a really creative place - especially from what I've seen from the home tours. Here are a few other Danish homes I love from the city:

A lovely hyggligt home in Jutland
The calm home of a Danish design collector
Colour therapy: the happy Danish home of Annemette Moesgaard

I think it's time for the weekend, do you? And we've got a BIG birthday in the house - 'Grattis' to my wonderful stepson, Albin!!!

Wishing you a really fabulous couple of days and see you Monday!

A Copenhagen Apartment in Soothing, Earthy Shades

This week some images dropped into my mailbox that made me sit up and go 'wow'! At a first glance I assumed it was a home tour. But on closer inspection, I realised that the pictures were taken as part of a campaign for high street brand Zara Home! Yes, I know! To create the down-to-earth space, stylists Colin King and Rosie Seabrook used a Copenhagen apartment as a backdrop for Zara Home items alongside vintage and designer pieces as well as beautiful art to create a simple, organic contemporary home in the heart of the Danish capital. Time for a little Friday dreaming....

The stylists have opted for muted, tone on tone colours - which, if done badly could lead to a very uninteresting living space. But it works in this apartment because of the blend of textures. Look closely and you'll notice the walls have a subtle patina that shifts with the light, the fabrics have a course, tactile finish and the furniture and accessories feature an array of different materials including linen, stone, rattan, cane, porcelain, wood, brass etc which adds interest and depth.

Guh! I could move right in and not do a thing! How about you?

Which is actually strange, as the space doesn't look very Danish. In my mind, it would feel more in place on the Swedish island of Gotland (see this home) at a push -  or the Mediterranean (I guess Zara is Spanish, after all) but there's something about it that just works!

Do you feel inspired too?

In case you feel like rushing down to your local Zara Home  - keep an eye out for items made from 100% recycled material, there are some beautiful pieces in the collection.

On an ENTIRELY separate note, my family and I are enjoying our last couple of days of our summer holiday at the cottage before heading home. I'm going to miss these carefree days with my family!! But, it's back to the grindstone and actually I'm looking forward to blogging full time again (i.e. daily!) come Monday - I've got so many exciting things to share with you!

I hope you have a fabulous weekend!

Colour Therapy: The Happy Danish Home of Annemette Moesgaard

Hej! How was your weekend?! It was a triple coffee morning for me today having spent the weekend up at the cottage contemplating the kitchen (I've never been good at making decisions and now it's crunch time!). Thankfully we did manage to sneak in a visit to Copenhagen to see the Michael McIntyre Big World Tour on Friday night (that guy is so funny, go if you get the chance!). Denmark has been on my mind ever since, it's just so relaxed and I love the slight edginess you sometimes see in the interiors. So today, I thought I'd invite us all back for a virtual tour of Annemette Moesgaard's colourful home in Aarhus, Jutland. Annemette suffers from Scoliosis and often finds herself in chronic pain, to such an extent that three years ago her doctor placed her on permanent sick leave. Annemette has used her passion for interiors to create a happy private sphere in which to relax and recuperate. I particularly love the colour choices, art and details which make the space so personal and help lift her spirits on the darkest off days.

"I like to surround myself with happy colours and things that make me happy. For me, colours are my sort of go-to on a bad day. Colour makes me feel better. And now I just think: life is too short not to surround yourself with things that make you happy."

What a wonderful home! I can certainly see why it makes Annemette happy, can you?!

You can see more of Annemette's home over on her blog and instagram

I often say Danes are the masters of gallery walls, and I truly believe it - if you're looking to create something similar I can recommend The Poster Club* (I think they ship worldwide) - or if you have the time, nip along to a local affordable art market (flea markets are also great!).

For more Danish inspiration today why not check out the home of a Danish jewellery designer, a Danish home full of treasures and a Danish home full of vintage finds. So inspiring!

Have a great start to the week friends!

A Delightful Pared-Back Oasis In The Heart Of Copenhagen

Why, hello there! How are you today? This weekend we had a bit of a spring clean and sent a load of stuff to the local loppis (flea market). It felt surprisingly satisfying but at the same time I have a niggling doubt that I may have been over zealous. Help! What would Marie Kondo say?! Do you ever feel like that too?! I have a sneaking suspicion that this is why I've chosen to share this incredibly pared-back Danish home with you today (minimalinspiration!). Despite enjoying life in Copenhagen, Pernille Bastrup sometimes finds the hustle and bustle of the city overwhelming and has deliberately kept her apartment 'light and airy' to carve out a place where she can find peace, think and focus on what matters most in life: good times and being with the people she loves.

There are so many pieces to love in Pernille's apartment (I guess if you're going to whittle down your possessions to only a few, you'd better make them count!).

My favourites are the Skagerak plant pot and the pear storage basket! Did anything stand out to you?

Check out more of Pernille's home on her blog and instagram - and tour a whole load of other inspiring spaces in the Danish home archive

Have a wonderful start to the week friends!

Where Raw and Refined Meet In The Middle - Danish Style

In the interior world you hear a lot about people choosing to renovate rather than relocate. Not this sassy lady. I've featured both of Julie Wittrup Pladsbjerg's past homes (here and here) - and last summer she upped sticks again and moved to a new gaff fifty metres down the road. Located in the Danish city of Aalborg, the move was down to her passion for her business Another Studio - a creative content and product development business which she co-founded with Mikkel Dahlstrøm. The apartment features towering ceilings, period features and original parquet flooring. Combine this with her fab, eclectic style, love of vintage classics, plants, books and art and it's hard not to do a twirl in delight (like one happy, little girl in these pictures AKA Julie's daughter Vanilla!).

Art by Rikke Jacobsen and Line Højmann (among others!)

How fabulous!

There's something special about following Julie's style updates over the years, her new apartment feels distinctly grown up, albeit with a touch of that edginess that we so love!

Do you find this home inspiring too?

If you'd like to see more pictures of Julie's apartment hop on over to instagram.

Have a dejlige day!
