A Light-Filled Upstate New York Barn Conversion With Fabulous Rugs!

Never underestimate the power of a rug (and two cute dogs!). That's the message I get from the beautiful upstate New York home of Kiana Underwood, Nate, their three teenagers Arasteh, Aram and Navid and furry friends Charlie and Atticus. The family moved from San Francisco to Upstate New York this summer following a 6-month barn conversion project. Kiana, owner of Tulipina - an internationally renowned floral design studio - had always dreamed of living in the countryside and growing her own flowers. Today the converted barn is filled with light and the white walls and light wood floors help to highlight antiques (some of which are local finds), the fine collection of Persian and Moroccan rugs, patterned tiles and floral displays.  Si from French By Design snapped these lovely pics on a recent visit.

That yellow front door is fabulous! It would be impossible not to smile every time you walk through it! As for the wonderful array of flowers and pumpkins up the steps - wow!

Is there anything that you love in particular about this home?

There's a ton more barn conversions to be found here - do you also harbour a dream to live in a house like this one day?

Thank you so much to Si for the kind permission to share these pictures. As I'm sure you can guess, Si also has a beautiful home (check it out here) and recently published an interior book How The French Live. If you don't already follow her blog, it's a must!

Have a lovely day!

A beautiful, rustic barn conversion

While drooling over the house at The Estate Trentham featured in Tuesday's post, I couldn't help but notice they also have a beautiful barn on the grounds too (used for events, gatherings, workshops, weddings and photo shoots). And I do love a barn conversion don't you?!  This particular one has been decorated with white washed walls, and a concrete floor, with exposed wood beams and rustic trellis tables adding a lovely natural touch and warmth to the space. Outside, the grounds include a mini orchard and harvest garden - oh to live nearby and have the excuse to have a party here, it all sounds so romantic!

Could you imagine getting together with friends or having a workshop here? I see bookings can be made here. Just saying!

Get the look: these vintage wood and metal stools are similar (if sold - source more here). This pendant lamp is similar. Buy beautiful stonewashed linen the metre here (or a ready made tablecloth here).

Other barn conversion inspiration I love includes: a fantastic, modern Swedish home in a converted barn (also featured here), an all white home, and a rustic retreat on Sweden's west coast. What a treat!

Have a lovely day!

PS I would hate to be seen inviting myself to parties, but if you do go and have a party here I make a great guest....

PPS - I received a message from Bloglovin this morning saying 'wowza, you just reached 50,000 followers' - that's quite a number and hard to imagine in real terms! Thank you so much for following My Scandinavian Home, you're wonderful!

The Swedish barn conversion

Last November I featured a fantastic Swedish barn conversion here. I still dream about this home today which is why I was extremely excited to discover more beautiful images of the space shot by Romain Ricard. The yellow in the kitchen makes a wonderful twist on the black and white kitchen we saw yesterday don't you think? And I LOVE that bedroom, so beautiful! Could you sleep there?!

This home seriously makes me want to up sticks and move to the Swedish countryside, how about you?!

The oh so beautiful bedroom has prompted my new product pick of the week today. As you know I'm a big fan of Scandinavian design classics and frequently highlight beautiful chairs. lights, and accessories. But one Scandinavian classic I haven't mentioned are the luxury beds by Hästens. For those of you not familiar with the Swedish brand, Hästens is a company steeped in history having 'been crafting sleep since 1852'. And they're not kidding. Each bed is completely handmade using all natural materials and takes around 160 hours to complete! I've got my eye on the limited edition Stockholm White. Imagine the nights sleep? Bliss! A well deserved product pick of the week!

I'm working from a cafe by the sea today and it's pouring with rain outside - so cosy!

Have a lovely day - rain or shine!

A beautiful converted barn

Hello....nearly the weekend -yay! I promised a surprise today but unfortunately it won't be ready until tomorrow, I'm really sorry! I hope the inspiration from this beautiful house makes it up to you until the project's ready. This converted barn appeared on the Swedish TV show Hustoppen last year and appeared on the lovely Purple Area (a fellow Skåne blog) today. I'm in love with the white wood paneling and beams, concrete floor, little nooks, vintage furniture and linen covered sofas. How about you?

Via Purple Area

Have a lovely Thursday and see you tomorrow for the surprise....
