Historic Charm Meets Boho Vibes in a Swedish Villa

Why, good morning, friends! I’m back—feeling refreshed, revived, and mildly aching in every muscle in my body, thanks to my novice attempts at backcountry skiing from hut to hut in Geilo, Norway. The ‘ice bath’ in the lake helped… somewhat. But despite that, it was an incredible experience!

I took loads of pictures and can’t wait to share my trip with you soon—just in case you’re tempted to give it a go yourself!

Anyway, that’s a long-winded way of saying—thank you for your patience, I’m back!

Today, let me whisk you away to a home that feels like a warm hug, where history peeks through in the most charming of ways. Welcome to Villa Emilsfrid in Gröndal, Sweden! Here, life has that dreamy summer house feel, even though you’re right in the heart of town, with the cliffs of Lake Mälaren nearby.

Keep a look out for the veranda–it’s the perfect spot to curl up with a book, let your thoughts wander, or dive into a creative project. And don’t miss the beautiful tiled stove standing proudly in the corner of the living room—always a favourite and so uniquely Scandinavian! Add to that the original creaky wooden floors, intricate mouldings, and spegel (mirror) doors, and you’ve got yourself a home that oozes charm.

But the real heart of this place? The big, open spaces where the kitchen and living room flow seamlessly together. This, my friends, is a relaxed home with boho touches, just waiting to be loved by a new owner. Could that be you?

Welcome home to Villa Emilsfrid!

What a dream of a house. Such lovely light!

Could you imagine making this space your own? I certainly could! Is there anything that stood out to you?

If you feel like seeing even more corners, head on over to Historiska Hem.

Step Inside Frederika’s Relaxed and Artistic Stockholm Home

Tjena! Hur är läget?

There’s nothing quite like a cozy home that feels truly lived in. Of course, most homes are full of life in reality—but when it comes to photos, they’re often tidied up for the camera: clutter cleared, paintings straightened, wires neatly tucked away.

As co-founder of the Stockholm-based photography and production agency Sylvie, Frederika Palmstierna is no stranger to beautifully styled and captured interiors. But when it comes to her private Instagram, she prefers a more spontaneous approach—sharing glimpses of her home whenever the mood strikes. It might be a view of her kitchen’s gallery wall as she sips her morning coffee or a snapshot of her dog snoozing on the bed. And in every frame, her unique sense of interior style shines through.

Think mix-and-match dining chairs, charming oil paintings, sculptural figurines, seashells, stacks of well-loved books, and even an incredible mural. Everywhere you look, there’s something to discover.

Enjoy the relaxed tour (and keep a look out for a snoozing 'Caspar'!).

In Sweden, the leaves often don't come out in time for Easter, so it's popular to adorn birch branches with ornaments to create a pretty display—as seen above.

In the bedroom, Frederika has applied Misty Forest wallpaper from Boråstapeter that looks like a beautiful mural.

Lovely! So personal, full of character, and packed with interesting furniture and charming details. A perfect tour to set the tone for the week, don’t you think?

Did anything catch your eye? Any details or ideas you’d love to recreate in your own home? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

In the meantime, here are a few more cozy and relaxed home tours to enjoy on this bright day:

Wishing you all a wonderful start to the week!

Plants, Books and Wall art in a Boho Berlin Home

Having spent a few wonderful days in Germany this week, I thought we could head down that way on the blog too.  This warm and inviting boho apartment belonging to Ewa Tomko is located in Berlin.

I have visited the city on many occasions and have always marvelled at how it buzzes with creativity. And in her home, Ewa's creativity shines through. I love that there are lots of plants, art, books and photos - but also countless other personal items such as antique clocks, masks and wall hung plates.

Keep a look out for the orange lamps (some vintage, some new) which are something of a micro-trend right now. And then of course, there are her feline friends! How many kitties can you find? Take the tour to find out!

One of my favourite things about Ewa's home is how cosy and relaxed it is. Everything you see is there to be used and enjoyed. The entire living space is truly personal. It's the kind of place you'd step inside and feel instantly at home.

Also, despite bring a relatively small main room - Ewa has ensured plenty of space for her beloved books and also carved out storage in other tight spaces such as built-in to the side of the sofa.

Is there anything that I've missed that you love about Ewa's home?

You can see more pictures over at @ewa_tomko

While in Germany, let's take a peek at some other homes from the past:

Have a happy mid-week - and happy Halloween to you all, will you be dressing up? My girls are dressing up as Medusa and a cowgirl - so much fun!

Relaxed, Colourful Boho Style in a Swedish Country Home

If you plan on visiting Sweden, think about coming between mid-May and beginning of June. It's a beautiful time: the world has sprung to life in an array of vibrant greens, the birds are back and singing their wonderful chorus and the sweet scent of lilac and wisteria fills the air. And everyone has a spring in their step!

This charming former schoolhouse in the countryside near Uppsala, Sweden fits the mood perfectly! Think early 20th century architecture, playful patchwork, funky art, vibrant colours and warm pools of sunlight. Welcome to a relaxed, boho Swedish country home in springtime!

Oh, so charming. You couldn't help feeling anything but relaxed here the moment you walk in the door - do you agree?

Patchwork and embroidery are making a major comeback in the interior world - which is lovely to see, but you definitely get the impression that the owners of this house don't care for trends and simply decorate in a way that makes them happy. Just how a home should be!

I can see myself at that desk - potentially my favourite spot in the house other than sitting at the table in the warm sunshine! Can you imagine yourself kicking about here too?

Take a peek inside a few other former schools today:

Wishing you all a great start to the week!
