A Cosy, Historic Shipbuilder’s Cottage in Tasmania Awaits!

Hej hej! I hope you had a lovely weekend. We've been up at our cabin, and it’s got me in the mood for an extra-cosy home tour today—are you up for the ride?

Great, because we’re heading to Twiss Street in Northern Tasmania!

You might recognize this charming little heritage cottage from a feature I wrote last year. Formerly a shipbuilder's cottage dating back to 1890, this 160-year-old property underwent a major renovation before becoming a cosy Airbnb retreat. And now, it could be your own personal getaway as the owner has decided to sell it!

I love how these pictures reveal new angles, allowing us to appreciate the craftsmanship, unique corners, and details like never before. While the beautiful vintage and antique furnishings are relatively understated, it’s the original hand-sawn local hardwood timber, exposed roof shingles, and wide-plank flooring—salvaged from a ship’s deck—combined with lime-rendered walls and a brick fireplace that give it its striking, unique look and help transform it into the cosy cocoon that it is.

Ready to step into the dark side? Let’s take a peek inside.

So beautiful! I love how the ceiling varies throughout, along with the wood cladding and dark timber floors, which truly bring the property’s heritage to the forefront.

Plus, it seems like every piece of furniture and each painting has its own story, making them fit right in.

Needless to say, the cottage has been featured in numerous magazines and books, including The Poetry of Spaces by Sarah Andrews.

I could easily spend a week cosied up by the fire—how about you?

Is there anything in particular that stands out to you about this cottage?

I have a real soft spot for cottages and cabins in Tassie! Here are a few more of my favourites:

I hope this has given you something to dream about for the week!

Plants, Books and Wall art in a Boho Berlin Home

Having spent a few wonderful days in Germany this week, I thought we could head down that way on the blog too.  This warm and inviting boho apartment belonging to Ewa Tomko is located in Berlin.

I have visited the city on many occasions and have always marvelled at how it buzzes with creativity. And in her home, Ewa's creativity shines through. I love that there are lots of plants, art, books and photos - but also countless other personal items such as antique clocks, masks and wall hung plates.

Keep a look out for the orange lamps (some vintage, some new) which are something of a micro-trend right now. And then of course, there are her feline friends! How many kitties can you find? Take the tour to find out!

One of my favourite things about Ewa's home is how cosy and relaxed it is. Everything you see is there to be used and enjoyed. The entire living space is truly personal. It's the kind of place you'd step inside and feel instantly at home.

Also, despite bring a relatively small main room - Ewa has ensured plenty of space for her beloved books and also carved out storage in other tight spaces such as built-in to the side of the sofa.

Is there anything that I've missed that you love about Ewa's home?

You can see more pictures over at @ewa_tomko

While in Germany, let's take a peek at some other homes from the past:

Have a happy mid-week - and happy Halloween to you all, will you be dressing up? My girls are dressing up as Medusa and a cowgirl - so much fun!

Step Inside the Cosy World of The Collector's House

Is there a public holiday coming up for you? We usually head to England for school half term but alas, that won't be the case this October, so I am cheering myself up with a virtual visit in the form of the extremely cosy The Collector's House - which is quintessentially English in every way!

Looking through the gallery, I can practically smell the tea brewing and hear the roar of the fire after a walk in the countryside. Maybe the moment would be accompanied by a slice of toast slathered in butter and jam. Or perhaps the fire is not enough to truly thaw out and I'd climb the rickety stairs for a soak in the claw foot tub. There's also that wonderful nook to snuggle up in - a perfect perch from which to look out at the rain lashing on the window or read a book. Oh, how I love England in Autumn!

Come and take the tour with me and let's get nostalgic together - there's plenty to feel inspired by! Keep an eye out for the most beautiful vintage finds, rustic sidetables, ceramics and plenty of cosy touches.

Can we also talk about that outdoor space? A covered area is so important to be able to make the most of a warmish day even in the rain - and this cosy little spot is a perfect gathering place with friends, don't you think?

I saw something similar on Instagram the other day and all the Aussies were like 'no thanks, I see spiders' - but in England the spiders are harmless so it's just to invite them to the party!

Overall, such a charming cottage - I could totally see myself here and must book it for one of our trips home (it's available to rent through Sand & Stone Escapes - how exciting is that?). In the meantime, I'll be scouring antique sites and flea markets for itemswith which to fill my own home with.

Is there anything that stood out to you?

Shall we take a look at more English homes today?

So many lovely ones!

Happy Wednesday friends,

Lív's Relaxed Family Home in the Faroe Islands

Why, hej there! Buckle up friends as I am taking you on a My Scandinavian Home all time first virtual trip to the Faroe Islands today! The Faroes is an archipelago in the North Atlantic ocean and an autonomous territory in the Kingdom of Denmark. Known for its dramatic volcanoes and striking nature, the Faroe Islands are somewhere I've always wanted to visit but sadly never been.

Lív Patursson lives in the Faroe Islands with her young family and I'm excited to welcome you through the doors of her Scandinavian modern home. Cosy, relaxed and full of life, the home is laid out over three floors with a kitchen, sitting room and dining area on the ground floor, as well as a second sitting room on the top floor.

Keep a look out for plenty of art, quirky lamps, and playful details (bonus points for anyone who spots a skull and a duck!). Also note, that these pictures have all been taken over time and being a fluid living space, objects and furniture have been moved around - so you might spot the same item twice (like the very cool little red chair!).

Welcome to Lív's Faroe Island home!

I so enjoyed the tour of this genuine family home where everything goes. I hope you did too!

Lív shares more snapshots from her Faroe Island home over at @rabarbuliv - if you'd like to explore her feed, you'll see how the furniture has been reconfigured over time.

I'd love to hear what you spotted and loved about Lív's home, there is a lot to look at!

This is where I'd usually write 'would you like to see more homes from the Faroe Islands?' but alas, this is the first one (I hope, of many!)! So instead, I'm going to share a few of my favourite Danish homes with you, which I hope will also add to the relaxed feeling this bright and sunny Monday morning!

Wishing you all a wonderful start to the week!

An Light and Airy Guesthouse in a Former Potting Shed

Hej kompisar! I hope you had a lovely, relaxing weekend. I mentioned last week that I'd been chasing my tail, and it seems this week is set to continue - I arrived in Gothenburg late last night as I'm set to present on stage at Möbelmässan (the Gothenburg furniture fair) this afternoon. Eeeeek! During my research, I've learnt a lot about 2025 interior design trends which I'd love to share with you soon.

In the meantime, I thought I'd start the blog week with a total reset in the form of a white shed, also known as The Potting Shed. Set in the grounds of Bunya House in Bowral, New South Wales, Australia, I found myself immediately drawn to it today as a) it's far away 2) it's on Airbnb so we can actually book it! 3) it's small - and if you've seen the tour of our tiny cabin, you know I love small and finally 4) it oozes simplicity.

The shed is made up of one main room with a sink, small table and bed as well as a bathroom. Since it's hard to tell from the pictures - as you walk in the door seen above, the sink is immediately to your right and the table straight ahead. The bed is to the left.

Ready to take a little tour of this simple, airy guesthouse?

Could you imagine staying here and filling it with your holiday wardrobe and food picked up at the local market? Perhaps we could meet there: the main house is also available to rent through Airbnb. Now there's an idea for a Monday! I already see a spot for that glass of wine (Australian of course!).

Is there anything that stood out to you about this little cottage? I'd love to hear below!

Although I mainly show Scandinavian homes, you'll have noticed I do have a particular penchant for Australian properties (I must visit one day, never been!). You can see all the tours from the past here

Right friends, I need to get ready for this talk now, wish me luck and have a fab start to the week.

Kram
