A happy Swedish home with black floors and bright colours

As I finally complete my off white floor  - this Swedish home comes along and throws everything up in the air! GRRR! Will you take a look at those glossy black floors?! What a striking backdrop the black and white makes for all those bright splashes of colour and lush plants?  Owners Hannah and Don Billberg are an impressive duo. Using a shoe string budget they set about building the home and then furnishing it with flea market finds and items bought second hand online -  and a bucket load of imagination. The result is a truly inspiring, vibrant family home. What a perfect tour for the weekend, let's take a tour....

Wow, I love this home. It's so refreshing! I love the creativity with which it's been put together. How about you?

I first visited Sweden when I was around seven years old to visit Ullis and her family (who are still great friends today). Her mother Yvonne, has a loom and she'd make these wonderful rag rugs. I've been a huge fan of them ever since - they're just so simple and such a great way of brightening up a space. I love how the colourful rag rugs in Hannah's home pop against the black floor too. Try Etsy for similar.

Other simple ideas to steal from this lovely home:
- Create moodboards using colourful pictures to brighten up a hallway, or delicious looking recipes cut out from magazines in the kitchen.
- Add a touch of comfort to bent wood chairs with fluffy, bright colour seat cushions.
- Adding a splash of paint to a simple box makes a fab wall-mounted bed side table.

Is there anything that stands out to you?

You can see more of Hannah's charming home on Instagram

For more inspiration this weekend I'm loving this cheerful Swedish home with bright splashes of colour and another home with black floors but in a whole different style. Or perhaps you're inspired by green floors or even red floors?!

Have a wonderful weekend and see you Monday!

Tamsin Flower's cheerful London home

There's one thing I'm low on at home; rugs. I find them the hardest thing - not only are they a big investment but they can also make a huge impact on a room (i.e. I simply can't make up my mind!). That's why I felt so inspired when I came across Tamsin Flower's lovely, colourful London home. Tamsin is the UK arm of Beldi rugs (with business partner Emma Wilson on the ground in Morocco), an online shop selling beautiful unique, hand-crafted vintage Moroccan rugs. Tamsin's home is packed with mid-century, retro and flee market finds which she's collected over the years. She also has plenty of statement Moroccan rugs too (obviously!), which add a cheerful pop of colour around every corner! Perfect inspiration for the weekend, don't you think?!

It's amazing what a difference these beautiful rugs make to a room, don't you think?!

I also spy: Lucky Boy Sunday cushions. Mid-century furniture similar to Tamsin's here! And, of course, there's those rugs from Beldi Rugs.

I love the black board on the back of the kitchen island - such a smart idea and perfect for keeping a little one occupied while trying to whip up lunch?!

Tamsin's business partner Emma lives in Essaouira, Morrocco and rents out stunning award winning properties such as Dar Beida, two hours from Marrakech - imagine kicking back here for a week?! Just. So. Fab. I think a holiday is in order....

Thank you so much to interiors and lifestyle photography - Sisters Agency for the kind permission to share these images.  I am such a big fan of their images - do you remember this rustic Norwegian cabin - a far cry from this London home but stunning in an entirely different way.

Are you up to anything fun this weekend? I'm heading to the Malmö flower show with my girls and we're also digging up our entire back yard to create a little outdoor haven - I hope I can share it with you once it's finished. In the meantime I'm taking my inspiration from this board.

Have a wonderful couple of days!

A contemporary home with a mid-century touch

If you've seen the pictures of my sitting room (here and here) you'll know I am a big fan of mid century furniture. This is why the home of Natalie Myers caught my eye for today's post. It was designed by Veneer Designs, a full service interior design studio which brings a modern organic mid-century inspired perspective to contemporary spaces.  I certainly see that here with the beautiful mid-century furniture complimented by kilim rugs and cool art photography. What a great space don't you think?!

I especially love the pale pink Kilim rug in the sitting room - how beautiful is that?! Perhaps something for my sitting room? I also like the Hudson Bay Point blanket on the single bed  - although I'm a little too primary colour shy to have it in my own home, how about you?

I've shown so many mid-century inspired home tours here before, in case you missed them here are a few of my favourites: a unique German space, the stunning home of Natalie Schwer and this monochrome space with a mid-century touch. Oh so cool.

Have a lovely day and see you Friday!

My home: kitchen star

Hello! Well can you believe it, it's still snowing?! And my Mum called me from London this morning all excited as it's snowing there too! ('What's all the fuss about?' I hear you guys North of South Sweden asking?! haha!). Today I thought I'd share a couple of pics from my kitchen. I have a bit of a black, white, light grey and wood theme going on. And of course a star for a touch of Christmas.

My Scandinavian Home
The mat on the floor is a traditional Swedish Tasmatta  (rag rug) which are handwoven on a loom using strips of recycled cloth.  Believe it or not, Swedish friends, I bought these two rag rugs in Jysk! I love that they have strips of silver cloth mixed in with the weave.

The tray is the Bricka Plattan by Barbro Tryberg.

Have a lovely day!

Cosy knit rugs

So, I checked out the rug from this morning's post in town, it's ASKO Mixed (see pic below). Wonder if it'll fit in my Christmas stocking?! And look at these other super comfy knit rugs. I even found socks to match, naturally! Roll tootsie roll....
