Beautiful Colour Inspiration From 'The Home', Copenhagen

Men hejsan! I hope you had a härlig weekend?! I'm slowly cranking into action - but I am feeling bouyed by the thought of 3 days of design in Copenhagen this week (of which I'm hoping to attend at least one  - let me know if you'll be there too?!). The Danish capital is full of design hot spots (as you can imagine!). One of the ones I'm most excited about right now is 'The Home' by Ferm Living. Created along the same lines as The Apartment, The Loft and Artilleriet studio, the Danish brand has transformed an apartment in a period property in Amagertorv into a beautiful living space featuring rich, sophisticated hues, understated cosiness and of course, the unique, playful yet pared-back flavour of Ferm Living! Abi from These Four Walls (who I had the pleasure of meeting in Malmö a few months ago) snapped these lovely pictures. Enjoy!

Naturally, the home is entirely furnished with items from Ferm Living's range. But it's also a great example of how to introduce rich colours into your home and create that hygge vibe the Danes are so good at! I particularly love the burgundy ceiling (it looks very similar to the Norwegian Wood tone in my home office)- who'd have thought it'd look so great with grey and blue? Food for thought indeed! And I love the way they've continued the tone throughout the space too. 

In the kitchen there are subtle touches of burgundy on the shelves.

And in the office it's present in the form of wainscoting (such a perfect workspace, don't you think?!).

And the burgundy makes an appearance in the candy striped wallpaper, rug and blanket in the master bedroom. 

Side note: I'm considering using the Unfold Room Divider (seen in the corner above) to separate my bedroom from my home office - what do you think?!

And finally, the burgundy is continued into the children's room (another of my favourite corners). This little space is so clever and a real masterclass in how to create a kid's room that's on trend, ties in beautifully with the rest of the home and looks as cute as pie! Love it!

Win Three Danish Brass Candlesticks from JENSENplus!

I think the K2 chair is my favourite piece of all - especially the Monaco textile and Yellow Revival Velour versions seen here - so pretty! (imagine them in a meeting?!).

These ergonomic poufs come with a strap so you can easily move them around (especially handy if you become attached to it and don't want anyone else to take it when you get up!). It comes in such pretty colours too!

... And those candlesticks I was telling you about!

JP101 and JP102 are reversible and can be used for either tealights or long candles (in our house we're always low on the longer variety but seem to have a lifetime supply of tealights .. does anyone else find this?!).

JP103, on the other hand, comes in three sizes and you can use it as a vase or as a candlestick. Blooms by day, hygge by night! The entire collection offers endless combinations and will look beautiful in the window (Scandinavians love to place candles and lamps in the window since it makes a home look more inviting) - on the table, or as a sculptural piece on a side cabinet.

Twinkle, twinkle little tree!

The Scandinavians generally start decorating their home for the holidays on the first Sunday of advent (is it the same where you live?). As with all things Nordic, the decorations are beautiful in a fuss-free, subtle way.  Think earthy colours, natural textures and plenty of foliage for perfectly imperfect vignettes.  Every year we head to the forest to cut down our Christmas tree (one of our family's favourite days of the year,  not just because there's glögg and pepperkaka (ginger thins) involved, honest!). But this season I'll be bringing in another type of tree too - the Nobili collection by Denmark's oldest ceramics brand Kähler. Designed by Mette Bache and Barbara Bendix Becker, Nobili is a pretty series of six hand-decorated ceramic candle holders inspired by the clear frosty nights of the winter forest. Each is perforated with holes to allow the warm glow of candlelight to cast pretty shadows on the wall. Not only does it make for a cosy display on a table, mantel piece or windowsill, if you're very tight on space at home it's the perfect mini Christmas tree alternative!

I love how pretty the dusty green, mouth-blown Omaggio glass vase looks in the vignette on the table too. "When the dusty green vase is combined with other shades of green, it creates a shadowy, fascinating contrast to the pale, Nordic aesthetic," the Kähler team explains. Yep, totally agree. It's very subtle and ideal for fresh sprigs of pine and other foliage gathered from the garden / nearby park / forest / through the cracks of the pavement - the more imperfect the better!

The inspiring dining area of an interior designer

Last month I paid a visit to my friend Genevieve Jorn's apartment in the heart of Malmö and had a great day photographing her sitting room (you may remember the post here). The area combines with a dining space where Gen, husband Kasper and daughter Olivia gather for family meals and sit and create thanks to the wonderful light. Although I have to admit, on the day I completely took over the space with my coffee, camera equipment and general clobber!). I did manage to clear it up just in time to snap these pictures though. As part of the wonderful monthly collaboration with one of my favourite Danish homeware brands - Nordal (I do love my job) Gen acquired the rather fabulous Pharmacy sideboard chest, which has proven to be a perfect place for all her family's bits and pieces. Oh, how we need one of these in our household, how about you?!

Imagine whiling away your summer here....

Hello there! Dropping by to share these lovely images from the Tine K Home spring / summer 2017 Boho collection with you. The shoot took place at the beautiful La Granja Ibiza and the look has me dreaming of summer holidays in far away places - no schedule to keep, no e-mails to tend to, only carefree days reading, lounging on the terrace and enjoying the odd dip in the pool. How heavenly?!

What a beautiful location? I love how cool the house looks (I can imagine the breeze wafting through!) -  and that pool looks pretty inviting to, don't you think?!

Many of these items are available through Tine K Home. I'm also loving this bamboo folding table, bamboo chair, and wood basket.

My new window nook / reading corner!

We've got a window nook in our open plan sitting / dining room area and it's been home to everything from a drinks trolley, gallery wall and even our Christmas tree! But in the back of my mind I've always thought what a beautiful spot it would make for a daybed. Not only does this corner of our home get the most beautiful light, it's also really peaceful looking out over the garden and up at the moon at night.  And guess what?! I've finally got around to creating it thanks to a little help from Danish brand Nordal and their lovely wall lamp and cushions in grey, dusty rose and a soft cream throw as well as a few other bits and bobs (see below for more details!). It's turned out soooo cosy and already become the most popular spot in the house!

Although it's super sweet seeing a little row of children's feet sticking out from under a blanket while they giggle over something on the ipad... but just one evening this week, just one!...I'd love to light that oil lamp, pour myself a large glass of something and read a book in this very spot!

Have yourself a very Scandi Christmas

Yes... I just mentioned the C word and it's only early November, eeeeeek! I love this time of year and come December my home will be festooned with pretty decorations and cosy touches. And this week I made an exciting discovery in the form of NOORVERK. For those of you not familiar with the Danish online store, NOORVERK is a global marketplace dedicated to handmade items by Nordic designers, artists, craftsmen and DIY creatives (sounds almost too good to be true). As you can guess, all the items are unique, high quality, sustainable and of course beautifully simple.
