My Favourite Corner Right Now!

My bedroom always becomes a bit of a haven in the winter time, do you find the same? There's something so toasty about climbing under the duvet and reading a book or watching a Netflix series (we're currently watching Shooter, have you seen it?). Given the temperatures right now in Sweden (it was minus 3 when I left this morning - brrrrr!) and the fact that we happen to have the most comfortable bed in the world (thank you Carpe Diem Beds) I could quite happily stay in this very spot until spring! Here are a few latest snaps from my favourite corner of our house right now.

Do you have a favourite corner right now?

If you're looking for a new, ultra cosy bed, I can HIGHLY recommend my Sandö bed (read more about it here). It's like a cosy nest!

Carpe Diem Beds have also recently released this beautiful short film which describes the handcraft that goes into each bed and the connection with the incredible nature on Sweden's West Coast.

Other items include the Portrait H print in wood frame*, wooden stool*, waffle throw from Granit (I'm not sure if they still sell this), natural linen throw. The lamp was made by a friend in England. The wall is painted in Blushing Peach and the floor in Strong White. If I've missed anything, just give me a shout in the comment section below.

Stay toasty!

I'm Moscow bound! Yay!

Niki

My Home: New Rattan Bed

Sponsored (all words are my own)
How pretty are all the rattan beds floating around the blog and instagram world right now? They're actually surprisingly hard to find - so I was super excited when Danish brand Nordal introduced a rattan daybed into their range this summer. Such a perfect addition to Allie's new room! She'd been really keen to get rid of her bunk bed (and to be fair I was so tired of clambering up to the top bunk for bedtime stories!). So, just in time for her 8th birthday next month she has a very pretty new bed!

It's originally designed as a daybed so I pick up a 105 cm mattress to ensure my little pumpkin still gets her beauty sleep - which was easy enough.

To make the bed extra cosy I also added a load of pillows - including the BOHO cushion and also a linen bed cover in rose and burgundy (also from Nordal).

Allie's so happy with her new bed (as am I - and all her bears!). Here are the items in detail:

In case you'd like any of these items - Nordal ship throughout Europe (checkout their stockists here).

A more detailed post with all items to follow soon - but please also feel free to ask away in the comment section below about any details!

Have a lovely day!

4 Cosy Autumnal Bedrooms in Norway

A competition with an aim to find Norway's finest bedroom? LOVING the sound of that, how about you?! As you can imagine, I've been following the competition like a hawk, and now the jury have narrowed it down to just four. Each of the finalists were invited to kit out their bedrooms with Høie of Scandinavia linens and blankets for the final round. No matter who wins, I'm feeling so inspired that bedding and blankets can add such an instant cosy, warm and inviting Autumn vibe. Here's a sneak peak of the final four.

1. Steffens' striking bedroom

 2. Manuella's light and airy bedroom

 3. Jorunn's classic / romantic bedroom

4. Kine's bedroom (see the complete home tour here)

How lovely! Do you have a favourite look?

Does this inspire you to update your bedding and add a few blankets in time for Autumn too?! I've got my eye on the chestnut bedding!

I originally found out about this competition through Katarina Dima, whose Norwegian bedroom I featured last week. Oh and this cabin in Bergen (available through Airbnb) also has me wanting to go back to bed!

Norwegians certainly know how to create the perfect boudoir, don't they?!

Have a great start to the week - let's rock this one and it'll be time for a lie-in before we know it!

A Delightfully Simple Norwegian Attic Bedroom

It's easy to spend months, even years scratching your head over a space - and the answer is often just to keep it simple! This beautiful bedroom in the attic of Katerina Dima's Norwegian summer cabin is a great example of this! The walls have been painted in a soft grey (Sommersne pure colour supermat from Jotun) creating a gentle contrast with the white wood panelling and the subtle black and brass accents add just enough detail to give the room a lived in touch. And of course, there's that linen!

White* and pale grey linen bedding* are designed to match the walls and ceiling behind. Also seen: Frama stool,  Pholc table lamp*, Aesop hand balm*

Katarina picked up the brass hooks from Lagerhaus. They are perfect since they don't require any drilling - and massively practical for hanging robes, bags and even a mirror!

Scandinavian simplicity at it's finest!

I hope this may have helped solved an interior conundrum you're facing or inspired you in some way!

Katerina is the master of grey and white bedrooms - this is her former boudoir in Oslo (also painted in Sommersne).

I seriously wouldn't mind a duvet day in either of these spaces right now, how about you?!

My (Sweet) Dream Bedroom Update!

Sponsored post (all words are my own):

You might remember I went off in search of beauty sleep a few months back And guess what? I've finally got rid of my ancient bed (which was honestly about 25 years old!) and in it's place is Sandö bed from the wonderful Swedish brand Carpe Diem Beds. If you haven't seen me for a while it's because I can't get up in the morning. Ha! Just kidding. But every night I do feel like I'm sleeping on a big, fluffy cloud! Bliss!

Due to the low window, I don't have room for a headboard (a little annoying!), so I opted for headboard cushions in soft  Zaragoza Eggshell in sand to match the upholstery. My husband was slightly sceptical (he placed a ban on me buying any new cushions several years ago!!), but even he approves of these - they make for an uber comfy bedtime read!

I'm so pleased with how the sand colour goes with my Blushing Peach wall too, these things are important for a design lover, right?!

The other thing I love about my bed is that it's named after an island in the Gothenburg archipelago (my heartland - not just because it outstandingly beautiful - it's also where Per and I met!).

And what makes it so comfortable are its three unique interacting spring systems that raise your sleep and the Contour Pocket System which was inspired by the heather on the islands and designed to ensure every inch of your body's supported.

I chose oak legs to bring a natural touch to the space - the beauty is in the detail, after all!

I hope you enjoyed the tour!

If you're looking for me, I'll be right here sleeping like a star fish!

Niki

PS In case you're also in search of a blissful night's sleep, Carpe Diem Beds are available in over twenty countries. You can find your nearest retailer here.

Small Space Make-over: A Teen Boy's Bedroom

Children's rooms are always fun to renovate as you can go a little more crazy, but when they start to hit their teens it's time to reign it in again and create something a little more grown-up. My stepson Albin, is 16 and spends a fair amount of time in his room (sometimes I think I hear him talking to himself but he's actually gaming against friends (in my mind, gaming is still Horris Goes Skiing on a ZX Spectrum circa 1984 so you can understand why this gets confusing!). When it comes to interior decorating, Albin has a fairly laissez-faire approach (understatement!). As long as he can sleep, study and play on his computer / watch football, tennis, baseball or WHATEVER is scheduled at the time, he's as happy as Larry (I'm still wondering who that is?!). Despite Genevieve Jorn and I being give free reign to design his room (which measures 7.7 metres square / 82 square feet), we were keen to ensure the look reflected his personality, run items from my wonderful make-over sponsor Danish homeware brand Nordal passed him, and ensure he had everything he needed!

Teenage Boy's Bedroom checklist*

Bed + reading light
TV and gaming console
Shelving for books
Storage for sports equipment
Desk with task light + drawers
Clothes storage

*according to Albin!

Floor plan

I really wish I had a 'before' picture (totally forgot to take one) but if you can imagine all white walls, no shelving and a slightly ripped poster stuck on the wall using sellotape you're on to something!

The tour

A 200 cm bed perfectly fitted the width of the room - with enough space for a TV, placed on a narrow wall mounted shelf, at the end. Layers of textile in the form of cushions and a rug (all Nordal) and the blue-grey wall colour (S 7010-R90B Ambience by Nordjö) helped to add a cosy feel.

Simple wooden shelves were painted in the same colour as the wall and mounted higher up for extra storage. Gen and I love a corner gallery wall (remember this one?!). This ensemble includes a Happy Mondays print, and an old drawing by Albin. He can easily add to the gallery over time too. A wall-mounted reading lamp helps to light up the corner after dark (in a small room, wall mounting items help to free up floor space).

From left to right: Satin Pothos plant from a local flower shop, and grey and blue cushions with lovely fringed edges, a patterned rug and lampshade from Nordal.

Since Albin is often at his Mothers he doesn't tend to store a lot of clothes at ours, so we decided to do away with the wardrobe to create more floor space. A clothes rack (from IKEA) with storage underneath works as a great replacement and doubles up as a bedside table.

We couldn't place the desk in front of the window because of the big radiator. However, it still gets plenty of natural light in the corner. Right now a big palm adds a splash of colour to the corner of the room but we could add a wardrobe in it's place if needed. PS Loving the tassles on the rug!

I found the desk chair in a local second hand shop (imagine how excited I was?!)- it's originally from Hungary, and perfect because it's still relatively ergonomic (it swivels and the height can be adjusted). As you can see from the picture, I still need to sand down the seat and re-varnish it - Gah! Where does all the time go?!

My sister took the framed picture of Albin, the man and I many moons ago on a beach in Falsterbo. I love it as it was such a happy, sun-kissed day. There's a good chance we might just be replaced with a signed picture of Zlatan Ibrahimovic imminently though! The Nordal library lamp was moved up from our sitting room

And here he is, looking pretty happy with his new room, I must say...

... and perhaps wondering why I swapped his Malmö FF poster for an Arsenal one (out of shot) - kidding, England was a much better match!

I hope you liked the make-over as much as my stepson! In case you're looking to do something similar, here are a few of the items we picked:

1. Library table lamp
2. Dark blue cushion cover
3. Black wall lamp
4. Cotton quilt bedspread
5. Fabric lamp cover
6. Graphic canvas carpet
7. Natural cushion cover
