This 100-square-metre (1000 square foot) turn-of-the-century apartment sits on the top floor of an Art Nouveau building, and while the living spaces are kept fairly calm and neutral, there’s a joyful burst of colour waiting in the bedroom. The 3.4-metre-high ceilings allow light to pour in, but what truly caught my eye was the mix of furniture and lighting – a beautiful blend of designer pieces and vintage finds, some perfectly in tune with the era of the architecture itself. And then there’s the balcony, dressed with a chintzy parasol and hues reminiscent of a glowing sunset.
Other details worth lingering over are the wood panelling (something I’m seriously considering for the cottage right now) and the soft green shade framing the kitchen window. I’d love to try something similar in our home in Malmö, but since it dates from 2001 and lacks period features, I think I’ll simply admire this modern touch from afar — at least for now. What do you say?
I hope this Swedish apartment has given you a few ideas for your own home and that the links were helpful (even if we aren’t blessed with 3.5-metre-high ceilings!).
Were there any lamps or pieces of furniture you were particularly fond of? Perhaps you have a favourite piece at home? I’m often asked that in interviews, and I used to say this vintage trolley (remember it? Such a blast from the past!). These days, it’s my Plico armchair (even though I don’t get to sit in it very often, as it’s so popular with everyone in the family!).
Before I shoot off, perhaps you’d like to see a few more homes today?

Very cozy, calming and thoughtful space. I really like the mix.
ReplyDeleteHappy you liked this lovely home too!
DeleteI love every inch of this apartment, I love the era it was built in and the furnishings and lamps are wonderful
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed such a lovely home! Happy you loved every inch!
DeleteI love the return of the color green as seen in the guest bedroom and as accent colors in the other rooms.
ReplyDeleteYes, such a great touch!
DeleteSuch cute clover wallpaper! Love the parasol!! : > )
ReplyDeleteI love the parasol so much! Would love a similar one for our summer cottage :)
DeleteAnd the front door is to die for!! : > )
ReplyDeleteYes, imagine coming home to that every day?
DeleteBeautiful apartment with great ‘bones’. So bright too.
ReplyDeleteThe bones are beautiful!
DeleteI love the brown sheepskin chair and footstool in the living room. Pre-covid, my husband and I stayed in a lovely hotel near the train station in Malmö. We had one of these chairs in our room - so comfortable. Pirjo
ReplyDeleteThat must have been the Duxiana hotel - I am not sure if it is still running, but it always had such beautiful furniture!
DeleteSuper natural lighting.
ReplyDeleteI love the golden hue!
DeleteAll the beautiful natural light! They really capitalize on it in this apartment. The front door is magnificent. So is the paneling. I think the soft green trim would look nice in your current home, but you are the expert!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the vote of confidence on the trim - thinking maybe about trying it out at our summer cottage (the main house) first, it could look really pretty there!
DeleteAs an American, the word 'apartment' means a rental. I realize that it's a cultural interpretation, not shared by others living elsewhere. The light fixures and furniture selection make me guess that this is a home, wholey owned by someone. It's a beautiful hi-end home, one that I can only dream about living in. Thanks, Niki.
ReplyDeleteSo interesting! I never knew that. In the UK, we usually call it a 'flat' but 'apartment' works equally well. I deliberately used 'apartment' here, as I felt the word 'flat' might not be understood elsewhere - is that the case?
DeleteIt really does look lovely and homely :)
How cute is this? I love the master bedroom and balcony set up.
ReplyDeleteHappy you loved this one Jane :)
DeleteLike walking through creamy vanilla ice cream ;)
ReplyDeleteSo true! Loving the hue in this home :)
DeleteBeautiful period features and décor. Thank you for sharing the details☺ There's a splash of color in the bedrooms- that's where it can get hard in the mornings of dark winter months. The pale blue wall color in the master bed mirrors the blue sky. My favorite is the small bedroom... or maybe both.
ReplyDeleteThe soft green window trim in the kitchen is perfect. The wood panels in the living room are sublime and certainly help. (A couple of rules I follow, if its not required, don't. If it involves extra dusting and care, don't☺)
Looking at the one in the kitchen, it seems the Swedes are busy creating cozy corners.
Thank you for sharing all these lovely observations - and also your rules you like to follow - so interesting, and wise!
