Hej there! How are you holding up? It's a busy time of year!
On Friday I shared a few snapshots from
my own home this Christmas (along with a little gift!), and today we're spreading our wings a little further afield – to
Sanna's beautiful Swedish country home in snowy Dalarna.
Sanna lives here with her husband and two children, and to give you a full tour I went back through her Instagram (with kind permission, of course) so I could gather snapshots from each room – which is why some feel more Christmassy than others. Either way, there's plenty of inspiration to be gleaned!
Built in the early 1900s, Sanna and her husband have been carefully restoring the house with great respect for its original charm. They place a strong focus on re-use and on giving old objects a new life. The home is filled with the kind of quiet, soulful details that make Scandinavian country interiors so inviting. Painted wood panelling in dusty blues and greys gives the kitchen a soft, heritage feel, while worn timber floors and simple rustic stools add a grounded warmth. Natural textures—ceramics, linen curtains, wooden cabinets—soften each room, and fresh flowers appear everywhere, bringing life to the winter light.
In the living areas, I especially love the paper lanterns and pleated lamps, which cast a gentle glow over vintage furniture, creating a layered look that feels both relaxed and personal. Just the house I'd like to come home to, whatever the season. Enjoy the tour!

I actually love that there are pictures from each season here, as it gives you an idea of how it looks and feels over the year. Do you agree?
It really is such a pretty home, and the views over the fields are magical.
One thing that stood out to me was the upholstery on the armchairs. I tried (and failed) to find a source. Does anyone know where the fabric comes from? I'll also check with Sanna and update the post once I know.
Did anything stand out to you in particular?
Just in case you'd like to see a little more Christmas inspiration today, here are a few beautiful home tours and edits I've shared in the past:
Har det så fint!

It looks like a Josef Frank design, of which I have a number in my cottage.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love your site! We visited Sweden a few years ago and it has remained one of our fondest visits. We both have Scandinavian heritage and so appreciate how those bygone homes have been preserved.
ReplyDeleteTell Sanna that I'm headed over for a cup of tea! :) Wow, wow, wow. This is amazing. Randomly, I love how the sunshine shows through the seashell in the photgraph. I think maybe the light is the common thread to what I enjoy about this home, but well-tended historical homes always will have a hold on my heart. The star lanterns, the wooden floors, and the beadboard .... sigh. Also, how cute is the dog in the front porch? We would refer to the trim on the porch as gingerbread trim--what would it be called in Sweden?
ReplyDeleteAs soon as I spotted that flowered armchair I wanted to curl up in it, perhaps with a book or simply to gaze through the large windows at the landscape beyond. The upholstery is so nice - echoing the indoor plants in winter and outside foliage during warmer seasons.
ReplyDeleteAnd the light, as you noted, coming in through the windows and diffused through the paper and fabric lampshades casts everything in a warm, inviting glow.
Another fan of the armchair here. The exterior is particularly pretty and the views. Her pup is so cute.
ReplyDeleteThe armchair was my favorite and stood out right away. I want that chair. I love the whole house.
ReplyDeletethe fabric looks like "alhama" of Nobilis. maybe... TFW
ReplyDeletethat pattern is josef frank's "anakreon"!
ReplyDeleteMe second every one of Kris' statements:) Something about the windows and the light. Windows are striking and beautiful, what views! If I could build a home again, would mirror-build the hallway and the children's bedroom. The kitchen is perfect, just the right amount of cabinets.
ReplyDeleteLove the pine and spruce in containers outside the porch. Adds so much character. Feels like a heritage home!
"We shape our dwellings and thereafter they shape us". No idea who said it!
Sanna's home feels like a warm hug....the light dappling across the rooms is so engaging. I love all the beaded board, the blue shade being my favorite. The shades of blue, green and cream through out the home must be beautiful in all seasons. Thank you for sharing!! : > )
